MCU fails for the second time

I just picked up my car and will post more detail later. Going to teslatap.com/mcu in the car it comes up as an MCU1 unit and I see the following list of games (I don't remember seeing these but I never really looked): Chess, 2048, Asteroids, Lunar Lander, Missile Command, Centipede, and Super...

MCU fails for the second time

I also had issues with my Bluetooth (I stopped trying to pair to use the car's speakerphone) and had missing sound effects with the turn signal. It's confusing at first when it happens while you are driving.

MCU fails for the second time

Summary of what Tesla is saying: The MCU is covered under the "New Vehicle Limited Warranty" for 4 years or 50,000 miles (note: there is no specific mention of the MCU). If you buy a replacement MCU then that replacement MCU is covered by the "Tesla Parts, Body & Paint Repair Limited Warranty"...

MCU fails for the second time

This was the case for me, I just never realized the potential issues and outcome. I've had multiple instances, to include while driving, when the center screen either froze or rebooted. Had I known what was happening at the time then I absolutely would have brought it to the attention of the...

MCU fails for the second time

I've had the car just shy of four years but I've driven just over 53,000 miles. I purchased an inventory car so it already had mileage when I bought it, the 53,000 miles are from me.

MCU fails for the second time

Total quote for a remanufactured MCU if I keep the old MCU is $2,443.99: 1. Media Control Unit (Touchscreen) (Remove & Replace) MCU,MDLX,NA PREMIUM,REMAN(1098010-00-D) --> $2,070 for parts & labor 2. MCU Core Charge(1496757-00-A) --> $250 for me to keep the old MCU, they later told me it should...

MCU fails for the second time

I want them to remove the core cost and then they keep the bad MCU to refurbish, we're on the same page and saying the same thing. With regard to the pricing, I was told that they were going to install a new MCU but the quote was for a refurbished MCU. It's been a struggle to get what little...

MCU fails for the second time

I'll take any advice I can get here, I'm not a lawyer and I'm not a car guru. There are two different expense group lines on the repair estimate, summarized here: 1. Media Control Unit (Touchscreen) (Remove & Replace) MCU,MDLX,NA PREMIUM,REMAN(1098010-00-D) 2. MCU Core Charge(1496757-00-A)

MCU fails for the second time

I'm trying to reduce the cost to get my car fixed, they are calling it out as an additional expense.

MCU fails for the second time

Any chance you are still under warranty? If so then I'd get it checked and replaced. From what I've been reading about the MCU (grudgingly as I don't have an interest but I'm trying to be an informed consumer) it's not going to get better for you. As I think back I had more than one instance...

MCU fails for the second time

I was subsequently told the $250 was a mistake, that they should have said $500, but that they would honor $250. Either way I've asked them to remove the core charge from the repair quote. Posting this piece of information for future reference for others.

“Systems Are Powering Up. Press Brake When This Message Clears

What I was told on the phone does not match what was provided in the repair write-up and estimate so now I don't know what to believe. Frustration^2.

MCU fails for the second time

Repair quote is for a remanufactured MCU, which is not what I was told it would be by the service center so I've asked for an updated repair estimate with a new MCU. For reference the remanufactured MCU they initially quoted is MCU,MDLX,NA PREMIUM,REMAN(1098010-00-D). Edit to add: I'm also...

MCU fails for the second time

Real time update: Escalating to request Tesla replace MCU at no cost. If I pay for the replacement it would be a new 2nd generation MCU, I was told they've had a retrofit to cross install in to 1st generation MCU cars for about a month. The warranty period for the new MCU would be one year...

MCU fails for the second time

@JakeP thank you for your documentation, it's incredibly helpful as I'm going through this thread again. For all, are there options other than to pay Tesla to replace the MCU (knowing that is a systematic problem with the unit) or having an expert like @tedsk replace the memory (which is not...
