    How Secure Are Teslas/Tesla Thefts

When I collected my M3 they turned the hazards on remotely to help me find it in the car park. Which is mildly interesting, because I don't think turning the hazards on is something that we as customers can do from the app, right?

The signage is very clear so if you've already decided you want to take the M6 Toll (which I'd recommend) then just follow the road signs. I just find it annoying that the voice guidance is non-existant at these junctions. I mean I know which way I'm planning to go, but the whole point of the...

But I think they still get the M6 Toll wrong, and give you no indication that they want you to leave the M6 for the M6 Toll - presumably because you are just keeping right. That's been a peeve of mine for as long as I've had the car.

Sure, all the planning and control is procedural code, but vision is done with neural nets. If the training set didn't include particular kinds of markings that are peculiar to the UK, the net is highly likely to be less accurate at recognising those markings, compared to other styles of...

My theory has always been that the neural net doesn't reliably recognise the particular style of lane marking we use at junctions. If it fails to see the lane marking, it just thinks the lane is widening to the left and keeps left.

It's not a car, it's a "sophisticated computer on wheels". And no one washes their computer! I rest my case 😀

Not exactly. It's more about the use of cameras at all. No one other than Tesla has attempted to do auto wipers with cameras - everyone else uses a rain sensor.

    UK FSD Discussion

Based on the YouTube videos I've watched, I'm pretty sure that the car was just ignoring "no turn on red" signs. It's down to the human driver to intervene in those cases. Maybe sometimes the restrictions are mapped, but pretty sure that even quite recently there was no recognition of the sign.

    UK FSD Discussion

Re roads, I'd agree, but actually, I'd say that in some respects US signs are harder for autonomous vehicles. Fewer standardised symbols and more textual signs, for one. Sadly FSD doesn't (yet) understand text. This is a big deal in America. The biggie is turn on red. In the US, you can...

    New Highland UK - stalks

I was on a bend the other week (roundabout I think but can't be sure now) with the steering wheel turned pretty much exactly 180º, and something annoyingly loud came on the radio. I turned the volume down. After doing so, I realised that I had, without really having to thing about it, turned...

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

Yeah, the seemingly industry standard 79p/kWh is bad enough - I'm not sure what Instavolt's justification is for charging 85p. I confess I hadn't really realised until recently just how huge the price gap is between Superchargers and the third party charging networks (which I relatively rarely...

One other problem with inclusion of non Tesla chargers is that in some areas I believe a lot of the eg Instavolt sites displayed can be 2 charger sites, whereas Superchargers are, of course, almost always larger hubs (Brent Cross being the only 2 charger Supercharger site I'm aware of)...

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

It's usually not an issue, but on occasion you can be in a situation where there are a lot of third party chargers nearby that make the grade for inclusion, which can make it hard to find the Superchargers (which you might favour for reasons of speed, cost, reliability and/or convenience)...

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

That sounds like Obstacle-Aware Acceleration. It goes hand in hand with Automatic Emergency Braking. Most new cars have it now, I think, for the forward direction. I have a feeling Tesla might implement it now in reverse, too, which is pretty unusual, I think.

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

It also potentially means that using the brake pedal won't automatically disengage adaptive cruise control. Make sure you know how to disengage it manually. On an M3 with stalks, you push the stalk up to disengage autopilot. Be aware, though, that if autopilot is _not_ already engaged...
