4680 batteries, what is the advantage?

They do kinda look like hose fittings, but I am not convinced they are. I also don't think that picture shows final design and at Battery Day they pointed out that the tabless design allows the cells to be cooled by the bottom and that this allowed denser packing.

4680 batteries, what is the advantage?

I guess we just differ. I did say staggered row, maybe double row would be a better description. Anyhow I maintain that the cells touching each other are wired in parallel so no voltage between them. One of the brilliant design features is that both positive and negative connections are at the...

4680 batteries, what is the advantage?

No, I don't think so. That strip was simply an insulator with no internal cooling capability. Between the strips the cells are wired in parallel so if the body of the cells contact each other there is no voltage between them. But these groups of cells are wired in series with the group beside...

4680 batteries, what is the advantage?

I don't believe this, it must be fake. According to this there are 14 production lines and all I have ever heard of is that Kato Rd has a single production line. Kato Rd. was never meant to be a major manufacturing site, just a development site so the production line could be replicated at...

Blog Tesla Releases New Video on Battery Manufacturing

Tesla engineers have been wrestling with this problem for years: "Right now, we have a challenge with basically what's called calendaring, or basically squashing the cathode, with material to a particular height. So it just goes through these rollers and gets squashed like pizza dough...

FSD Beta Videos (and questions for FSD Beta drivers)

Clearly FSD has a long way to go. What concerns me most is that safety seems to be a low priority. The current version appears to not recognize stationary object that are not identified as a vehicle. It needs to realize that an unrecognized shape can be a hazard. I am surprised this version has...

    Navigate on AP Update (2019.12.1.2)

Just wondering if anybody has received the new FSD as an upgrade from their HW2 or HW2.5 to HW3?

Deliveries before Dec 31 as promised by Tesla

They haven't said anything official, but since Elon promised all orders before end of November would be delivered by end of year, then I hope they would honor their promise or compensate. I think they should back up Elon's statement with a guarantee. Of course there is a reasonable possibility...

    Mid Range waiting room

I don't believe anyone has to worry about getting their car before the end of the year. In fact I believe we will shortly see Tesla open up orders for Europe in order to keep the pipeline filled for the end of December and beyond.

    Mid Range waiting room

I get the impression that Tesla has now exhausted all the pre-orders for Model 3 MR-Premium and up. That is all reservation holders in USA and Canada remaining are holding out for the SR $36k model. Is that true? Is there anyone in North America who has a reservation and not been contacted by...

    Model 3 Production Tracking

Going by the latest sales for Model 3 as shown by InsideEVs.com, my chart and production estimates are wildly optimistic. I will not attempt any more updates as I now consider this method a dead issue.

    Model 3 Production Tracking

Yes I have and there is a lot of data there, but not focused on production. No way to separate data from people waiting to get their car as apposed to delivered. Also there is almost too much data there about various options and configurations which makes extracting data difficult.

    Model 3 Production Tracking

As you can see the chart is heavily averaged and does not show spikes like the 5,000 produced in the last week of June. Unlike Bloomberg, this simple model does surprisingly show a current production rate of 5k which is in line with latest report from Electrek. If there are some here who know...

    Model 3 Production Tracking

I am surprised there is not already a tracker here. I decided to try to duplicate Bloomberg's Model 3 Tracker, but when I created my own graph, using the same data and methods reported by Tom at Bloomberg, I did not come up with the same graph. I can only conclude that there is more to Tom's...

    How does VIN registration work?

from: Model 3 VINs (@Model3VINs) | Twitter They point out that there was a previous 19 VINs for Europe, but make no statement about the last 3 being special. I guess I would like to see these VIN numbers for my self, but if there was something special about them, I expect they would have said.
