CarPlay solution for Tesla by Michal Gapinski using Raspberry Pi with Android

Have you tested against older model 3s that have poor antenna placement? (i.e. does the ability to use an external antenna mitigate those issues?) Currently, both Tesla Android and the various CarPlay dongles/solutions perform really poorly.

Can you create a Shortcut/Automation to have your phone activate Personal Hotspot when it connects to CarPlay?

Thanks for the explanation - I guess I'm still hung up on how the Ownice would essentially have to combine or bridge the two wifi connections for the car to have any connectivity at all. So the Tesla's wifi is occupied by the Ownice, which would then need to provide an internet connection...

What's your understanding of how this "2 wifi" works? Is it somehow actually 2 separate chipsets and/or connections concurrently? With a lot of these products, I've found that their descriptions are either purposely misleading or just inaccurate (i.e. maybe 2/dual wifi actually really only means...

Do you have a link/recommendation to the steering wheel mount you use?

Are you using a CPC200-CCPA (or a CPC200-Autokit) with your Tesla Android to achieve that higher-res 30fps CarPlay?

Even at the glovebox (under), it was wildly inconsistent. The only place it seemed to perform well was on top of the dashboard, right next to the A-pillar, up against the window. Not a great permanent mounting location. Thanks for the info on AMD-required - I wonder if it's because of the...

I wonder if the Ownice has a superior antenna to the T2C, for those of us with older cars. Probably impossible to tell without ordering one though, and I'm not up to spending $100+ just to experiment. At least at Amazon I could return it if it didn't perform.

Yes, I tied both 2.4 and 5GHz, tried multiple channels too, no luck. Works relatively smoothly if I literally hold it (well, my wife is the designated holder) right next to the passenger side mirror, where the antenna is. I'd swap out the antenna, but haven't found clear enough instructions for...

2018 Model 3 here, it's unusable. Antenna location is terrible.

Kinda/sorta off-topic, but related: Has anyone seen a tutorial on how to get to the MCU on a Model 3/Y, to replace its antenna? I know there's a Reddit thread out there that has one or two photos, but I haven't found anything that is enough to instill enough confidence to give it a try. That...

Yep. The main issues appear to be the phone not always connecting to the T2C automatically and then issues joining the AutoKit SSID (no DHCP or no internet errors, or prompting for the password repeatedly). I'm able to get it to work ~5min into most drives now, but most of the time it lags...

Yes - heck, even my car suffered from the infamous factory-reset bug while I was testing the T2C initially. (recent software update caused it to reset everything) So for this thing, I've factory reset my car, my phone - all for the novelty of CarPlay, I guess.

Aftermarket Tesla CarPlay and Android Auto Devices

Yes, I did. I've gotten it to work with more consistency now, not sure what's changed, frankly. It eventually starts working - perhaps it's the time it takes for the unit to obtain a cellular signal and start broadcasting wifi "properly" - who knows. But still, it's so dog-slow 90% of the time...

This thing is still finicky as heck for me. 90% of the time it flat out doesn't work when I get in the car. Lately, it's been the car not being able to join the T2C unit's wifi, either saying that it couldn't obtain an IP address or flat out prompting me for the password (again and again), but...
