    Canadian Roadtrip

I will shortly be driving from Ottawa, Ontario to Victoria, British Columbia. Looking at PlugShare for DC fast chargers along the route, it seems like the Petro Canada chargers are really, really dicey. And even when they do work, and claim to do 200kW, it seems many are actually limited to...

Does leaving AC on Auto lead to premature failure?

I had my air filters replaced by mobile service, and the technician said to leave it in Auto all the time. He said one of the changes they made to prevent the smell from coming back is that when in Auto, once you park the car it will keep the fans running to dry out the system. It would't help...

Does ChargePoint RFID card work on FLO / BC Hydro networks?

I understand the logic for the network providers... But it really does feel like these networks are aiming for the worst customer experience so they can save a few pennies here and there. It is maddening.

Does ChargePoint RFID card work on FLO / BC Hydro networks?

Bummer. Would have been nice if it was more interoperable. Thanks for the feedback folks!

Does ChargePoint RFID card work on FLO / BC Hydro networks?

If I'm understanding things correctly, it seems like ChargePoint, FLO and BC Hydro have some sort of cross-charging network sharing agreement. FLO and BC Hydro both want $15 (or so) to deliver you an RFID card that you can use to start chargers without needing to use their respective apps...

Phantom Braking issues improved in 2022.4.5.17 update?

I feel the same way. On a multi-lane divided highway, no big deal. You probably want to be as dead centre in the lane as you can manage. But when you are on a 2 lane, non-divided highway I'd much prefer that the car hug closer to the outside of the lane and as far away from oncoming traffic as...

Phantom Braking issues improved in 2022.4.5.17 update?

I originally read that as "Still absolutely unusable on 2-lane roads". Glad I misread it. 😅

    AP/phantom braking.

Sorry to hear you experienced it so quickly. It has been a constant source of disappointment since I bought my MY last summer. However, there is reason for hope (finally!) Several anecdotal reports of significant improvements to TACC/AP behavior in the 2022.4.5.17 update...

Phantom braking in my new Model Y

Someone seems to have noticed a large improvement in TACC PB behavior with the recent 2022.4.5.17 update: I updated to that version yesterday, but have not tried out TACC yet. Will be interesting to see if this is the "one" that largely fixes the issue. 🤞

    Phantom Braking

Sadly, at the moment it seems the only thing you can do is not use it or accept that you are going to have to be ready to hit the accelerator when using TACC. Really hoping the recent investigations into this behavior will force Tesla to at least give us a dumb cruise control while they try and...

    Phantom Braking

Not sure how an improved map is going to prevent my car from slamming on the brakes when a semi truck passes by while using TACC.

Sold my Model S, bought an Ioniq 5

Quite curious about how well their adaptive cruise / autopilot equivalent works. As an owner of vision only MY, one of my big issues with the car is the TACC's tendency to slam on the brakes on 2 lane, non-divided highways. Ugh. Yeah, both of these things very quickly spoil you. I'd definitely...

    “Dumb” cruise control?

If it this were the case only when using autopilot, I would 💯 agree with you. When AP is engaged, there is the presumption that the driver is paying less attention so having the car take a more cautious approach could be somewhat justifiable. But TACC is a whole other story. Like, I'm literally...

    Phantom braking survey

4+ lane roads will probably be fine. And if there is traffic that you can follow, that generally seems to help things as well. The worst offenders tend to be 2 lane roads when a semi-truck is heading in the other direction. Just in case you haven't seen this yet:

    Phantom braking survey

Assuming you are buying an Y or a 3 (which has no radar... this would not apply to an S or an X which are still shipping with radar.) In my experience so far, I would say that if you are driving primarily on 4 lane divided highways / freeways during the day it'll probably be OK. On the other...
