that is the interesting thought too.... miles per day will be less than 15 once we go back to work (working from home right now). Is it better to charge slow and steady than rapid and quick? I could just keep everything as is.... 40 amp with 240 and 14-50 receptacle.

thanks Canoe you now threw out another wrinkle.... If existing service can take 60amp.... I am unsure how to tell. I do have 200amp service. I do want to plan for the future, and we all don't know what chargers will be in a few years. I did add up all my breakers and have: 17 - 20 amp, 9 -...

the outlet is 2 feet from the breaker box. It has a 14-50 outlet (receptacle) in the box. Looking at long range and probably a juice box or something to increase KW.

    Wire type

Going to change out my 8 gauge wire for 6 gauge and change breaker from 40amp to 50 amp. Outlet is 19 inches (yes - less than 2 feet) from the Electric Panel. Should I use single wire or bundle jackets romex wire? If single wire, do I need to use conduit for that short of distance? already...

Old 3 prong 40 amp Kiln outlet and circuit for Tesla charger?

Thanks all. since the outlet is so close to the box, I could get it all changed out with the 50 and 6/3. My friends electric inspector for his house asked why you need a 50 amp breaker when only pulling 32. I want to do what is "correct and best" for my future car.

Old 3 prong 40 amp Kiln outlet and circuit for Tesla charger?

I have bought a 14-50 outlet. I plan on doing this. 1. Red and Black wires into the right spot. 2. thin copper wire on the ground 3. white wire on the other spot. We will test a friends mobile charger when he returns. I will also check the gauge of the wire. We will only charge at 32 amps...

Old 3 prong 40 amp Kiln outlet and circuit for Tesla charger?

Thanks all.... I think best would be change the outlet to 14-50 outlet which seems to be the most common plug system for Tesla cars. Now just want to think if I should change out the breaker to a 50 amp vs. the current 40 amp. cheers Stu

Old 3 prong 40 amp Kiln outlet and circuit for Tesla charger?

argh.... So replace the outlet with a 14-50, and then use all the wires I have in the box. Red, White, Black and copper. I don't see a green wire at all. thoughts?

Old 3 prong 40 amp Kiln outlet and circuit for Tesla charger?

Quick update.... The current outlet is a 6-50. In the wires, it has a red, black and white connected to the outlet. the copper ground is just wrapped up sitting in the box. Running this outlet on the 40 amp circuit. So new question - do I need to do anything now except get the 6-50 adapter...
