Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Not the OP, but my 3-1/2 hr (one-way) trips were to fix (1) a 2014 S with the "black screen" memory issue, (2) upgrading the 2014's original TPMS system to the post-2015 Continental hardware, and (3) a 2022 S that "toasted" its CPU before Tesla figured out the CPU needed cooling even during...

Does using Tesla Tyre Repair kit require you to pull the nail out first?

I've done it a couple times, and would highly recommend a kit with T-handles on the reamer and plug inserter. Even after "lubricating" the tools with the repair liquid, it can take a lot of force to push the tools into and through the tread. My current kit is the Slime 1034-A repair kit - it's...

Service center left my car blinker on overnight at their yard.

Not to mention the the wires leading to the blinker eroding over time. One reason they remove the original "knob & tube" wiring when renovating 100-year-old homes is that the wire thickness has shrunk from 12- to 16-gauge.

BFR harks back to the BFG 9000 ultimate weapon in DOOM, which was released in 1993 (!). And if someone tells you that young Elon didn't play DOOM and use one of these while he was at Penn or interning in Silicon Valley around that time, assume that they're an idiot... (And yes, the canonical...

"SpaceX is targeting Monday, December 11 at 8:14 p.m. ET for Falcon Heavy’s launch of the USSF-52 mission to orbit from Launch Complex 39A (LC-39A) at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. A backup launch opportunity is available during the same time on Tuesday, December 12." 24 hour weather...

3a. To what extent (and how) will these Tesla-produced, 3rd-party-branded Superchargers be integrated into the navigation and trip planning in Tesla cars?

Munro's tear downs of the Model 3 & Y were fascinating glimpses into how cars are manufacturers, despite the occasional flubs about technical stuff. He's started talking about doing a tear down of the CyberTruck, as well, and I'll watch all of that content when and if it occurs.

    Yoke vs Steering

Definitely prefer the yoke - yeah, I still occasionally tag the wrong turn signal button, but it's rarer and rarer for that to happen. Biggest transition was hand-over-hand turns but that problem went away once I started using the undersides of the yoke crossbars more effectively. And lightly...

What does that "unlockable" but otherwise unused 20 (or 40) kWh capacity weigh, and why am I dragging it around unnecessarily?

What to do with your Model S when you remove a tire

I'm in the part of the country where we need snow tires, so I bought a full set (wheels & tires) from Tirerack. When I had to repair a tire recently (screw), I just put on one of the snows while I worked. If you don't have a set, I'd suggest buying a suitable used wheel & tire somewhere...

There's an engineering principle called "Eating your own dog food" (aka "dogfooding") wherein a company uses its own products in daily operations. It shows confidence in and commitment to the product as well as gaining real-world operational experience that can feed into customer support and...

Route planners with waypoints and battery level thresholds?

I've used EVTO-Tesla on my iPhone for several years to plan long distance (transcontinental) trips. It excels at creating multi-day segmented trips by letting you set your "nominal" leg length (i.e., 9 hours) and displaying where that puts you in the route. I've also tried using ABRP for this...
