Roadtrip: Top left to bottom right Supercharger trip

I'm rarely waiting to reach 90%. I find that by the time I've logged my numbers, bathroom break, and grabbed a bite to eat, evangelized anyone curious about the car or the chargers, the car is often waiting for me. That's how I get a week behind on postings. Yes, I will backfill. Spoiler alert...

From Fremont to LA, SuperCharging all the way

You have to be nearly empty to get 50% in 30 minutes. Somewhere around 60% it starts tapering the charge rate to protect the pack.

    First look at the Supercharger?

Somewhere along the line I got the impression these stations were going to cost $500K each. That leaves the potential for a station to have the equivalent of 10 85KwH battery packs internally, since that would be ~10% of the station cost. Running the superchargers totally off solar seems like a...

    Anti-Tesla Gibberish

As I read the article, he's trying to tell us Tesla can't succeed because they are competing with the established car makers in the high end market where they are most profitable rather than competing in the low end, low margin, but high volume sector. Incidentally, the place where the current...

Will Model S be the most expensive car you have ever owned?

More than double my most expensive car. For that matter, nearly double my first house and almost exactly what my second house cost!

Running out of power & roadtrips

I'm planning on some serious road trips once my S arrives. I'll probably start with in-state and in-region drives like Seattle to the pacific coast or grand coulee dam or the Palouse. Also Seattle to Portland. I love to take photos and there is a lot of photo-worthy scenery all over the...

    Lutz on Tesla ...

The concept that GM or any other major auto producer could outdo Tesla has a major problem. They all have dealer networks. They have to make cars the dealers want to sell. A car with the much simpler drivetrain and fewer moving parts of a pure EV will be much cheaper to service. Since somewhere...

    Hub motors revisited

I'm not sure you need them in this configuration. With all wheel regenerative braking, you should be able to apply as much stopping force as the tires can transfer to the road. The ULTIMATE anti-lock brakes!
