I got it now. Indeed, I did not know about this core charges and assumed the $2.5k was the “final” price of the MCU2. I guess it is MCU1 price +$2.5k. On the other hand, this could have been explained as “pay $2.5k and return your MCU1 or pay $3.5k”.
When you got a discounted price you are told...
Hum...I see what you mean. So instead of charging more, you sell them/they buy the original MCU...so it would not be like they making up a price and charging you just to refrain you from getting your own stuff back...would make sense...thanks.
My comment is not about paying for the MCU 2 upgrade. It costs whatever Tesla wants it to cost. My comment is about you as the owner of your car (from bumper to bumper) not able to get your piece back from a service center unless you pay for it once again! So say you ask Tesla to swap your...
how come people are fine paying a 2nd time for a device they paid for already in the first place when they bought the car??!!
Tesla should not get allow to charge you for your own piece of device!!!
does any body fight this abuse back?
Nope. Those are 2 different upgrades. The former (MCU1 TO MCU2) has just been announced 1.5 month ago at $2500 while the latter is about autopilot FSD. since you already have EAP, you have a discounted price.
Could be because of early version.
Mine is a MX 90D April 2017 - brand new it was 262 miles at 100%, now after 47k miles it has 251 miles. I lost 9 miles in almost 3years... not too bad...

So if you are a AP2.0 and bought the FSD, your only way to get the dashcam is to get the MCU2. See Tesla note (Features section): Full Self-Driving Computer Installations
There is a good chance that we have sentry mode once we move to AP3. Those owners who have MCU1 and AP2.5 have it along with current Tesla owners of MCU 2 and AP2.5 and AP3. Which means, sentry mode as nothing to do with the MCU but all about the AP version....so let's be patient. Tesla has...
In Canada too. At least in Quebec that is the law. If you ask before they start, you get your old piece. So whenever I’ll get big issues, I’ll do it in Quebec, not Ontario so I get my property back!
