Thanks for the comments. Whilst I agree on the premise of paying for MCU 2 for the performance gain, and will likely do so in the near future, I'm more intrigued to see if the fact the FSD upgrade has made the MCU 1 worse for anyone else as it has done so for me. 🙂 Thanks for the comments...

I can confirm - and have confirmed with Tesla London, MCU 1 has a capped software numbering of 2020.xxx. MCU 2 will then see the cap being lifted. This cap on MCU 1 doesn't restrict the software OR implies that it is no longer supported. It's just a numbering system on Tesla's end.

It’s the MCU which causes the lack of ability to record videos. Supposedly footage is transmitted to Tesla on which you can request it. I can’t confirm this. MCU upgrade enables the full fledged ability of Sentry Mode that most newer Tesla’s have today.

Hey Jamie. My Model X is in the Service Centre and over the course of three days it’s gone from 2018.4.5 (I believe) to the most current 2019.8.5 - connecting to a strong WiFi overnight tends to download the update and then you can install from the dash or mobile app.
