Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

And here it is the "end" of winter, though it is once again snowing. I waited for a day when it was reasonable to try and put the Rally Armour flaps on and here's the report. What a struggle. Getting the old cupped mudflaps off was considerably more of an ordeal than I expected. The clips simply...

Rally Armor mud flaps - clips are falling out

OK. So when mine get here from RA next week...assuming I can get my car washed up, I'll be following their measurement suggestions!

Rally Armor mud flaps - clips are falling out

That is sooooooo typical in snow country! I had so much snow in the wheel wells after a trip last week in Montana that my suspension basically consisted of the tire flex! The real problem with this is that this accumulation of snow can/will freeze and if it hits anything, the snow/ice will break...

Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

And, here it is at the end of the winter, and I've managed to keep them on, only by carrying along a trowel and clearing off snow after virtually every drive when it's been snowy...and it's been snowy a lot....they both have broken segments so I guess it's off to the Rally Armour website🤔

    Mud Flaps Model Y

And here's my latest (really) low tech advice....I put a trowel in the car and if I've driven somewhere and gotten a bunch of snow packed behind either the front or rear tires, I just use the trowel to knock it off a bit so it can't freeze and then bust stuff off....;) In Montana we're off to a...

    Mud Flaps Model Y

Just an update which I've also posted on one of the other mud flap discussions....If you drive in snow, any version which features a "cupped" design will definitely pack in snow, and eventually break off. I'd hoped the Tesla front mud flaps with their flat surface would be better, but the answer...

Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

And a quick update...I was hoping the Tesla mud flaps, which I'd replaced the cupped version with would be better...alas...no. I lost one today so I actually have no mud flaps of the left side.... Aurgh.

Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

Have a look at my comments regarding rear mud flaps and the cupped design that most of them feature. I've now been through three mud laps after they'd built up snow, hit a driveway or snowbank and snapped off. You're certainly welcome to the rear set I have. They'd be fine if you're not driving...

Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

Oops...Didn't quite finish this... I have two rear plastic mud flaps, so if anyone lives somewhere and doesn't get a lot of snow, let me know and I'll figure out how to get them to you...

Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

Thanks for the reply....I'd shied away from the Rally Armour because of the price, but at the rate I'm going I'll have spent nearly that much replacing the cupped plastic ones! If

Model Y Mud flap or anything to prevent damage in Canadian snow

Here's an update from Montana. If the mud flaps you install have a cupped surface that can capture snow...it will. The snow will eventually freeze and continue to accumulate and sooner or later you'll go over something that will contact this frozen snow, and bingo, the plastic clips break and...

    Phantom braking

The past couple times I’ve driven from Butte, Montana, up to Helena I’ve had a phantom braking event, a relatively aggressive one at that, the exact same place, about two miles south of the exit off I 15 for Boulder Montana. Nothing the least bit obvious on or along the Interstate that would...

    Model Y Mud Flap Saga

We’ll see how the Tesla ones do? I’ve seen the posts regarding how the Tesla ones come off backing through snow, but the problem I had was the large amounts of snow behind the front wheels with the RPMs. I’m hoping the Tesla flaps don’t accumulate snow like that and I guess I’ll try and be...

    Model Y Mud Flap Saga

Continuing saga. After some FedEx shipping confusion the Tesla mud flaps arrived. they’re a quick install and look fine although they don’t match the RPMs in back. They look like they might do a better job keeping the rear PPF free of road grit? Hopefully, they don’t come off in snow as easily...
