ZBB, I got a chance to use the Coos Bay AV CHAdeMO yesterday. I was wrong- it's not at the casino. It's at a Fred Meyer, the local Kroger store (like Fry's down your way). No trouble to use at all, and folks I was chatting with while charging said they rarely see anyone charging there. So just in case....it should be there for you.
So far, I have found that they are rarely in use, except for the few that are next to casinos (Coos Bay, Florence, Spirit Mountain).
Thanks. Good to know about Coos Bay. Plan is to skip it anyway -- I think I can get away with charging at Port Orford and Newport... We are driving on a Thurs, so hopefully no weekenders...
My bet is Coos Bay is too far from the Willamette Valley population centers to be a problem even on a weekend. The only casino charger I checked out regularly when I drove a Leaf was Spirit Mountain on OR 18, and that was only crowded in the evenings.
RE the Oregon coast: the CHAdeMOs are part of the Aerovironment network. They occasionally fail to initiate a charge, but you can almost always fix that with a call to the Aerovironment service center. The number is posted on each charger, along with the ID number of the charger.
Thanks Otter... I'm aware of the Aerovironment setup. I still need to get the CHAdeMO adapter though!
I definitely found the adapter to be useful when wandering off the existing Supercharger network......when the chargers are working! As I'm sure you already know, Plugshare ratings and comments help.
Plugshare is a great resource. I haven't bought the CHAdeMO adapter yet since it's not much use here in AZ (all the chargers are in metro Phoenix or between Phoenix and Tucson, which is supercharger enabled).
