My friend's model X crashed using AP yesterday

The same could be said for even standard cruise control, yet people have been using that safely (by and large) for decades. AP should be treated exactly the same as regular cruise control - let the car do some stuff for you - but the driver is still ultimately responsible for paying attention.

    Fatal autopilot crash, NHTSA investigating...

The point is not that he was speeding at this time (autopilot makes that easy to avoid) but rather the fact that he was caught 7 times in 5 years before autopilot was released is an indication of the kind of attention he likely had as a driver. Add to this the other evidence in this thread...

    Fatal autopilot crash, NHTSA investigating...

Plus the 48' for the length of the truck. The front might cross in 4 seconds, but it'd take the rear another 6.5 seconds to clear the roadway.

    Fatal autopilot crash, NHTSA investigating...

Put in the context of the other information we have about this driver, it makes a pretty convincing profile of someone who isn't exactly the most attentive driver in the world. We wouldn't be having this conversation otherwise.

    Fatal autopilot crash, NHTSA investigating...

Not at all irrelevant because it speaks directly to the driver's behavior - not so much in the willingness to speed (which we all do) but in the lack of awareness to stop himself from being caught so often.

Looking for some input from Liverpool/Syracuse Model S owners...

No problem. Both my father and my co-worker ordered through the Westchester store downstate. Might make more sense to deal with them. In both cases the cars were delivered to them here in Ithaca.

Opinions Desired on tires for 19 inch wheels

I would think the WRG3 to be a bit overly aggressive for a 3-season tire in PA. Might as well get some better handling and likely, a bit more economy. The A/S 3 is certainly a fantastic tire. Hard to go wrong there. I'm helping my father pick new 19" tires right now, as his OEM Michelin's only...

Looking for some input from Liverpool/Syracuse Model S owners...

I'm down in Ithaca. I've facilitated the purchase of a Model S for my father and the a co-worker (who now owns two). I own a Plug-In Prius myself, and grew up just outside of Baldwinsville. My father parks and charges primarily outside. He had a Clipper Creek charger installed on an outdoor...

    Corning NY Supercharger?... (speculation)

I think that while it'd be great to have one in Ithaca as a destination charger, it'd make more sense to put one in Binghamton first as it would still service access to Ithaca from the highly trafficked southern route, while also making trips from Ithaca more convenient (there is no comfortable...

    Corning NY Supercharger?... (speculation)

Binghamton would seem to make more sense than Ithaca or Corning as it's at the crossroads for people heading in many directions. This region definitely needs one badly. Is there serious talk of putting one in Ithaca?

    NY State EVSE Tax Credit

Hi all, I wanted to pass along this information as it seems like it is not very well known, and it might save some of you a bunch of money. There is a NY-specific EVSE tax credit of 50% up to $5000 - good for installs in 2013 and doesn't expire until 2017...
