    Model 3 specific Jack Pad

Why do I need to use a jack pad at all? I’m talking about using a low profile jack with a flat saddle, so there is no difference between the shape of the surface of a pad vs no pad. The jack itself pushes right on the correct spot. I see no value in the pad.

    Bizarre System Power Failure

One more piece of evidence I just thought of: The other night (one or two days before the power shutdown incident), my car failed to install a software update that was available. I have never had a s/w update fail before. I just read a thread about how this update is gated by the 12V system - if...

    Bizarre System Power Failure

Yeah I was thinking the same, but I’d been driving all over with no 12V warnings and then just BOOM, out of the blue car won’t start .... and 2 hours later it’s fine again. Really weird. Hard to explain. I’ll report back when Tesla diagnoses this.

    Bizarre System Power Failure

My model year 2014 Model S just had a weird failure today. I dropped my kid off at school and went to the gym as usual. I returned to the car after my workout, but the screens were blank, and I thought it was just one of those occasional system reboots that happen to us all. No big deal right...

    Model 3 doors/windows/mirrors + Ice = trouble

Always have your Tim Hortons coffee card ready. Because it’s more Canadian than a credit card. But seriously... just swipe the card between the glass and the seal and the ice will break free from the glass. Easy.

Tesla Winter Tire Package - Lead-time?

Update: the Tire Guys did a great job meeting me at a retail parking lot in the service area early in the morning and had my tires done in 20 minutes. Very good service in the end, despite the major communication problems up front.

Tesla Winter Tire Package - Lead-time?

I would proceed this way: 1) Email Tesla to request refund and warn them that I’d issue a credit card dispute if not resolved in 72 hours 2) proceed with dispute if no action is taken. Thankfully Andre from the Tire Guys just called me today. He sounds very tired ... I’m sure they are...

Tesla Winter Tire Package - Lead-time?

I ordered online and Tesla was fast to confirm and call me back telling me “The Tire Guys” are the outsourced partner for installation. I got one email from them with vague info about how to schedule. I tied to schedule and had problems. I called them numerous times and they have not returned...

My Mostly Great AWD Model 3 Delivery Experience

Today I picked up our new Obsidian Metallic Black AWD Model 3. No other options (no AP, no fancy wheels, just the paint upgrade and AWD). Overall AWESOME. Here are a few notes of things we noticed. There are still a few quality control issues Tesla needs to improve. We had these minor...

AWDs on the way to Canada?!?

I ordered Obsidian metallic black. Standard wheels and black interior. Others have been getting the same colour as me so I think Tesla basically screwed up on their promise to prioritize owners. I'm pretty annoyed at them. Horrible system.

AWDs on the way to Canada?!?

Website shows a Oct 16 delivery appointment now, VIN had disappeared and is now back with no change. No idea if this will actually happen this time.

3-month waiting anniversary and no end in sight. Anybody else like this?

Are you an early reservation holder and/or current Tesla owner? For comparison I ordered basically the same car as you, but in obsidian metallic black, and I ordered on June 30. I am a day one reservation holder from 2016 and a current Tesla model S owner. My car is not in my hands yet but is...

AWDs on the way to Canada?!?

Hey folks - Can I ask those of you who are near Toronto and have an AWD Model 3 to chime in please? My car was initially scheduled for Sept 26 and keeps getting pushed back. Literally EVERY time (3 times in a row now) I've checked in with my delivery specialist the day the car was supposed to...

AWDs on the way to Canada?!?

Those of you picking up AWD non-performance cars, are you all previous owners with early reservations? I’m curious. I have an order for Obsidian Black AWD aero wheels. I have a VIN and originally got an email from “Mandy McBride” in Fremont for a Sept 26 delivery. Then a guy named PK in...

AWD to be about 6500 cdn plus tax

Same here - I get a basic text screen telling me that the car is being prioritized to US and employees (same as what happened with RWD). Maybe this isn't coming to Canada as fast as we hoped?

    Supercharger - Mt. Hope, WV

Where is this? I don't see any post on the 15th.

Rear door handle intermittently quits and service center unhelpful. Should I try another?

Hey - is this resolved? I'm having the same problem. Door handle doesn't present and the window also doesn't work. The window DOES lower and raise the small inch or so when you open / close it ... but the switches don't do anything. My door handle has presented TWICE and only twice since I...

    Supercharger - Mt. Hope, WV

Thanks again for the great info, @Darren Schilberg and @1101011. I'm starting in Port Perry, so just northeast of Toronto. We leave pretty early in the morning and take the express highway 407 all the way to the end, cross the Peace Bridge into the USA, skirt around the inside of Buffalo and...

    Supercharger - Mt. Hope, WV

Wow @Darren Schilberg THANK YOU for such an awesome detailed reply. I'm actually looking at the supercharger map now and it seems maybe the best way to go this route is to continue west past Erie all the way to Cleveland. So instead of: Erie --> Franklin Park --> Weston --> Wytheville (428...

    Supercharger - Mt. Hope, WV

Really hoping this station gets turned on SOON. March Break trip happening again this year, and we're taking the S85 to Hilton Head Island from Ontario. The segment from Weston to Wytheville is longer than I want to do given variables of temperature, wind and rain. It looks like a few people...

    Articles/megaposts by DaveT

@DaveT I'm so thrilled to read your review of the test drive and to hear that you're finally taking delivery (or probably have by now, and are too busy driving it to be posting here). I love reading your posts, and I too invested in the stock after learning about the Model S and researching...

Discussion of New Platform for Model Y

Just reading all the replies here ... and I think @jbcarioca brings up a good point about the supply chain for 12V components. Tesla hasn't been large enough, until recently, to swing its weight around. Once they prove themselves with a Model 3 ramp, if they call up a supplier and say "Hey, we...

Discussion of New Platform for Model Y

This is not a legitimate explanation for a new platform. It would be much easier to scale component production versus design new components. I think they'd need a new manufacturing line regardless simply because Model 3 volume is expected to be 500k per year, and I don't think it's common to...

This comment makes a ton of sense. I completely forgot to acknowledge that the Model 3 got pulled ahead in my original post.

Discussion of New Platform for Model Y

Hey gang. So last night on the Tesla Q1 F2017 conference call Elon said that there would be a "step change" in manufacturing efficiency when the Model Y comes out. For context, and for those who haven't heard the call yet, this was brought up during a discussion of Model 3. Elon and JB were...

Supercharger Options -Toronto to South Carolina

We're driving past DC to stay at Glen Allen VA (usually be book an Express Deal hotel via Priceline the day before we leave). We leave well before rush hour so no Richmond VA traffic, and from there it's a good day of driving to Hilton Head Island. Likely a 3pm arrival. But it's actually...

Extended Warranty worth it for my 2014 Model S 85?

I read somewhere that they're now doing glass replacement on the screen, rather than replacing the whole screen. Much less expensive. Anyone know? How common is this screen bubbling issue?
  28. F

Extended Warranty worth it for my 2014 Model S 85?

I'm thinking the same as you guys, RAM_Eh and mrElbe. I'll blow through a 4 year extended warranty in about 2.5 years, which is a LOT to spend in such a little period of time especially when there is a deductible on any issues. Thanks for the feedback so far.

Extended Warranty worth it for my 2014 Model S 85?

Hey folks, I just rolled over 80,000 last week so I'm out of warranty. I leave on a road trip Tuesday, so I have until then to decide on the extended warranty (because you can't buy it after rolling past 81,600 km). It's expensive! $5700 for another 80,000 coverage (that's less than 3 years...

Supercharger Options -Toronto to South Carolina

This is exactly what a local friend advised me. Looking at our travel plan I think it's gonna be REALLY close, so I'm going to skip this route and go through Strasburg instead. It's actually a tiny bit less distance (but probably slower roads). I feel better knowing that non-urban roads will...

Supercharger Options -Toronto to South Carolina

Yeah I wish they'd get the charger in Morgantown done, and then Summersville would be ideal. It's the fastest way through WV on the way to south 1-95 hookup.

Planning a U.S. road trip - Toronto to Key West

My experience last year (driving Toronto to Hilton Head, South Carolina) is that you can generally trust the nav planner, but I would still suggest you stick around a few extra minutes AFTER the system tells you it's OK to start driving to the next destination. We had one segment where it kept...

Supercharger Options -Toronto to South Carolina

Hey gang, Like many others here (I assume), we're doing a road trip down south during Spring Break. We're leaving from the Toronto area and going via Buffalo, through Erie, past Pittsburgh, and hooking up to the 1-95 to sleep in Glen Allen VA. Last year I did this (via Kingston, as Buffalo and...

    3G connectivity issues since V6.xxx

Yeah, same here - I was having constant 3G drops late in the summer, and these were in highly populated areas of Durham / Toronto. So it wasn't network coverage. It went away after an update and then I had lots of song skips happening, but those have also seemingly disappeared, which is great...

    Canadian Stores and Service Centers

I agree with comments that important issues are handled fast. I had a control arm that was squeaking loudly, so an obvious potential risk and they told me to get it in the next day, returned my car within 24 hours. My S85 is also approaching 80,000 km soon so I wanted to get my 4th annual...

Effect of software upgradeable batteries on margin?

Hey everyone, So now we have an S60 that is actually an S75 software limited to perform like a 60 until you pay a bunch of money to unlock the extra capacity. I haven't found a post discussing the financial effect of this yet. What do people think? 1) If the pack cost is $190 per kWh is...

Ontario EV incentives upped to $14K... and decreased to $3k for Tesla

I just read the Ontario policy today in detail, and it's very clear that the MSRP is EXCLUSIVE of options, so all Tesla needs to do in Canada is to create a different way of pricing the cars. Here's a quote from the actual program documentation: "MSRP is the base value of each model and trim...

    Wiki Canadian Trip Planning

I just finished a big road trip to South Carolina and back. We did about 4,000 km total and the weather ranged from -5C in Syracuse on my way home to +26 near Philadelphia on the way down (March break week was really warm!). On the warm days no issue. On the colder days the trip was more...

Non-Tesla Connected cars: Big volume starts in 2018?

Hey folks. I'm a shareholder in Sierra Wireless (SWIR: Nasdaq), who I believe is also the 3G / 4G module supplier to Tesla. I've followed the company for a long time and today was just catching up on the latest quarterly conference call. One of their big wins for the quarter was a design win...

Appropriate levels of finished goods inventory

One of the standard favourite bear arguments is that Tesla has far too many "unsold cars". Sometimes people genuinely don't understand that a car in transit is finished goods inventory, but often times it's the bears that want to perpetuate FUD who publish loads of garbage. I suggest we...

    Fukuta supply role to Tesla

Hey TMC gang, So we've got this guy, Bill K, on Twitter. He's your typical bear with one major exception. He's a total Kripkean dogmatist, meaning he's somehow unable to look at any data beyond the very few data points he has. He keeps harping on Tesla for using Taiwanese "Fukuta" as a...

    New UMC?

There were 3 posts from another thread that a mod moved to this thread, so the OP of that comment is not guilty of not reading this thread, just not knowing about it. No biggie. Let's be nice.

    New UMC?

Glad to find this thread. I just got the new UMC and 14-50 adapter by Fedex today too. I think Tesla did a bad job with the super poor explanation on a one pager in the box. I don't feel like returning my old one with out more info. Also, they provide a new 14-50 but say NOTHING about whether...

Really loud and bizarre creaking coming from front left

Yeah I found another thread where the driver posted a YouTube video (same sound exactly) and Tesla said it was a control arm ball joint. Same place (front left). I've submitted the service request to Tesla, hope they get back to me fast.

Front left wheel - loud creaks?

Hey tliving - I have this exact same sound going on in my car: I used the iPhone voice notes recorder and put it in dropbox here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1563938/Tesla1.m4a Is the car safe to drive with this? I just noticed it today and emailed Tesla already. But lately it's...

Really loud and bizarre creaking coming from front left

Just recorded this sound during my 3km drive to take my kids to their class. I was driving between 10-55 km/hr, so quite slow, and with my windows down this was REALLY loud. Anyone experience this? I could not attach an M4a file, so here is the dropbox public link...

    Delay in model X launch?

Guys - back up and look at the bigger picture. Trains vs trucks is not important to the overall concept. If sales are ~12,000 per quarter and we currently have 1,000 in transit then you can bet with ~24,000 per quarter (whenever that is), there will be ~2000 cars in transit. Timing (i.e. days...

    Delay in model X launch?

[/LIST] Here's the thing that (I suspect) a LOT of people keep missing. The number of care en route will continue to rise every quarter as long as Tesla is growing. If there are 1000 en route now there will be MORE en route after Q3. not less.
