    Tesla Energy App inaccuracy

It is probably a configuration error with the current transformers

Solar production getting worse in Bay Area, California

I was told by a former CDWR water controller that he believes the flow is about 1.5 mph on the aqueduct. I would think that would be calm enough unless it has to be almost still water.

Solar production getting worse in Bay Area, California

They should call it how to make a lake totally suck! I could see something like that on the California Aqueduct.

Using powerwalls for load shifting only

Based on what you want to do I would say you probably will want to wait and see what happens with Tesla and the VPP in California. It looks like there is at least somewhat of a push to change the tax credit to allow Powerwall's with solar to grid charge but still get the tax credit. I do not...

Using powerwalls for load shifting only

You can still sign up for EV2-A. You cannot sign up for EV-A it was discontinued for new customers. EV-A had a longer peak time during the week 2pm-9pm, partial peak 7am-2pm and 9pm to 11pm, and a short off peak time 11pm-7am. It had a super cheap (for PG&E) $0.14384/kWH during off peak hours...

Powerwall only no solar, Tesla app fails to charge batteries during off peak

You might want to read your comments again. If you don't see that you were trolling me well I don't know what to tell you. Most likely you are just a Tesla Fanboy, who is in denial that this entire issue was Tesla's fault, not the CPUC or PG&E whom you really really wanted to blame!

Random question for you all with 60A SquareD Disconnects (eg DU222RB)

Powerwall only no solar, Tesla app fails to charge batteries during off peak

The system works exactly as I described, now that it actually works. It starts to charge to full as soon as off-peak period is hit, it discharges all the way down to reserve during peak period. I have only been using 5 kW per day due to being evacuated and it still charges to full each night...

Powerwall only no solar, Tesla app fails to charge batteries during off peak

After 68 days nearly 10 weeks, talking with Tesla support multiple times, having the issue escalated to Tier 2 support, having the issue escalated to Engineering support for almost 7 weeks I contacted Tesla support one last time on September the 2nd. I told the Tesla support individual my...

V4 of app drops Balanced/Cost Saving (Advanced Time-Based Control) options. Replaced with Time-Based Control

Any ideas if this might fix my powerwalls not charging from grid during off peak times? Again I do not have solar so obviously the powerwalls have to charge from the grid.

    Three weeks post Install Questions

What is your reserve set at? NVM you said they are drained. Two PW's have 27 kWH of power. Your home is using 30/kW while your solar is generating or about 3 kW/hour. If your AC and pool pump are not running much at night you should not be draining your PW's. Check your utility hourly meter...

Multiple EV charging setup in Northern Calif? Can someone recommend an installer?

I thought you were banking the excess solar for your winter heating bill?

Multiple EV charging setup in Northern Calif? Can someone recommend an installer?

If I had your setup and money to burn I would get the Ford F-150 Lightning with a bi-directional 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro. Getting it to work nicely with Tesla, goodluck haha.

5 battery install Lake of the Pines

It must be available with any solar + powerwall installation. That is cool for those that want to try it.
  15. Z

5 battery install Lake of the Pines

I am not sure with SGIP on the powerwall's that you can sign up for VPP. I know that I cannot, but I am a powerwall only install, which apparently is kind of like being a unicorn.

Powerwall only no solar, Tesla app fails to charge batteries during off peak

That might be correct if they did not have me sign an agreement stating that I would "for a minimum of 5 years, to discharge the storage system in an amount equivalent to 52 complete cycles per year of the incentivized energy capacity rating, with the discharges occurring during peak hours or...

Powerwall only no solar, Tesla app fails to charge batteries during off peak

Tesla has now had this issue for 6 weeks. 3 weeks at tier 2 support followed by 3 weeks at engineering support. They have yet to send even 1 watt of energy to charge the powerwall's. I can force them to charge in one of 2 ways. Force the system to back-up and they will immediately commence...

Real World Powerwall test right now!

Powerwall's with no solar here. We do not even get a blip. The app notification is the only thing that tells us.

Will a Tesla powerwall work for me?

Are you sure you are going to get enough winter solar production? If you do not you are going to be getting a large fuel bill. What happens if one of your inverters fails? What happens if your generator fails? What happens if a battery fails or your gateway fails? You will probably want to...

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

Yes I see that now looking at the warranty again. I was thrown off by the 70% at 10 years. I hope these things aren't junkers after 38 MWh's. If they are $0.26 KWh for storage is more than the PG&E E-1 rate for energy, DOH!
  22. Z

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

They have the proof of concept as they have been running one in Australia for a while. In California as far as I know Tesla would need to go to a utility like PG&E and sign an agreement to provide this service.
  23. Z

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

They are warranted to be good for 70% capacity after 37.8 MWh of throughput not that they will have to be replaced. Your cost per KWh throughput is way too high. I will agree I would not sign up for the VPP without compensation. You are doing more than most for the grid during an emergency by...

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

I would recommend investing into pump storage systems along the California aqueduct instead of a complex per home based battery storage system. These would be easy to ramp at any time, add bulk storage to our current system, add to our surface water storage, be renewable, and last 50 years or...

New SGIP powerwall only PTO status and operation questions.

Powerwall only no solar, Tesla app fails to charge batteries during off peak

Unfortunately no. Tesla has elevated the issue to "Service Engineering team" saying they believe that it is a firmware issue. I told them it might be a firmware issue after talking with Texaco on this forum who has a similar setup, powerwall with no solar. He is running a different firmware that...

SGIP Incentive rebate check has been issued. I am really surprised as to how quickly that happened.

System Not Producing, Anything I Can Do?

Can you use the Tesla app to monitor your system and see if your you now have solar output? Short of that I would just look at your usage on the SMUD website tomorrow.

I think it is because you have solar and it was just a new true up because you had additions to your system.

I changed tariffs, but I do not have solar I only have batteries.

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

Can you cover your load with batteries from 3pm to midnight, and go to full output on powerwalls for 2 hours? Most likely the answer is no. A single powerwall would put out 10 kwh of the 13.5 kwh of storage in 2 hours. If you are on a TOU rate with elevated pricing from 3pm to midnight and you...

Number of PGE panels, do they approve? Make you remove some?

Why are you running 10 space heaters, I thought you had heat pumps? Do you have 10 heat pumps? I mean its your energy bill so you can do whatever you want. Maybe you are working on a warp drive...

5 battery install Lake of the Pines

I was not expecting a true up with batteries. What are they truing up? I have no production just load shifting I do not push any power out to the grid.
  37. Z

Number of PGE panels, do they approve? Make you remove some?

40,000 kwh. Do you have multiple EV's? Are you heating/cooling uninsulated spaces? That is a massive amount of power for a home. If I were you I would get a real energy audit. You need to figure out what is wasting a crap ton of energy.
  38. Z

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

I agree. I think it is the ITC issue/simplicity/various regulations and that is why h2o is going to have a hard time grid charging the SGIP powerwalls. Heck I do not have solar and I am having to force the application to charge the batteries off peak. If the App was left to do what it wants to...

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

Balancing the power grid today works off a market based approach for the majority of balancing, that is maintaining 60hz. Dispatches are sent to specific units and they are told to raise or lower their output based on bids that they have in the market, and the current state of demand in the...

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

You are not going to get to charge your batteries from the grid because you have solar. I think you are in a unique situation where you need to be able to grid charge when your solar production is low. Tesla would literally need to reprogram the app to do what you want it to do for a very small...

5 battery install Lake of the Pines

When you say the "battery" account what does that mean? Did they make you choose a different rate plan or change your NEM accounting or something like that?
  42. Z

Number of PGE panels, do they approve? Make you remove some?

Most hybrid water heaters have a heat pump and a resistance heater element. I am not sure why you would make a choice to just use more energy instead of getting 2 or 3 cents a kwh for excess solar. It would seem to me that 2 cents is better than no cents. My 2 cents

5 battery install Lake of the Pines

Looks like it is time for 45 more panels, another inverter, gateway, 3 more powerwalls and an emptier bank account
  44. Z

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

Reading the link I think all you get out of the deal is a warm fuzzy feeling, NEM credits, and updated firmware. Tesla probably getting BILLIONS!

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

Spinning reserves get a capacity payment for being on standby. Spinning reserves also need to be able to produce the energy that has been reserved on demand and would get an energy payment for that service.
  46. Z

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

Thinking about it a little more it does not make sense with my setup and rate plan. I already rate arbitrage on EV2A rates. I basically get all my electricity needs met at the off-peak rate around .18c/kwh and I use the powerwalls to power through the .39/.50c/kwh part-peak/peak pricing every...
  47. Z

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

I agree. The install base for my setup will be limited by SGIP funding and the fact that Tesla does not offer powerwall only installations anymore.
  48. Z

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

It will be interesting to see how this is deployed. If the virtual power plant gets access to real-time pricing from CAISO someone (Tesla) could make some serious money charging the virtual power plant when real-time prices are low and discharging when prices are high. Now how that filters down...

New SGIP powerwall only PTO status and operation questions.

I have been rolled back to version 20.49.0 the issue with the powerwall's going into standby mode in time based control when the off peak time is hit is still an ongoing issue. I have to switch the app to backup-only for the powerwall's to charge from the grid, and switch back to time based...
