P85D and Winter tires -- what would you do?

I run 21's during the summer and 19's with Sottozero's in the winter, mainly because I want more sidewall when snow has obscured the potholes and the road damage done by plowing. The other nice thing about having two wheel and tire sets is that I can just swap the wheels myself.

I only tried a single stall (2A) for a couple of minutes on the way home from work. I suppose it's not really done until it shows up on the nav, but it's close.

    charging slow at Superchargers

In 2.5 years, I've never seen the louvers open on my car, even when supercharging in warm weather and the fans sounding like the car's about to lift itself into the air. I'm guessing the answer is no, but is there any way to function-check them myself?

    Supercharger - Charlottesville, VA

I drove past the supercharger on Sunday and there was a crew with a horizontal drilling rig set up on the same street corner as the equipment pen. Maybe it's a crew to bring a power feeder over to the SpC?

    Blue Ridge Mountain Drive

I drove the BRP in the opposite direction last month, from Waynesboro to Asheville. Taking the BRP up to US-21 or I-77 to Wytheville without stopping should be doable. On my trip south, I left from the Hotel Roanoke and had lunch at a Tesla destination charger in Blowing Rock at Canyons...

    Charging at 127v?

My personal experience says that 3mph rate might be a tad optimistic on a longer wiring run. Since you're going to be there for a few days, plug in and check on it after 12 hours to see what kind of sustained rate you're actually getting. It'll be warm, so you won't lose much, if any, power to...

    Dominion EV charging plans

I switched to the EV+Home plan when I got my car and my electricity bills before and after stayed the same, even with daily charging. My house is heated with gas (although the winter peak rate is only slightly above the nominal rate) and I have a Nest thermostat set up so that the AC only...

    Supercharger - Charlottesville, VA

I was at Stonefield today. There were a few construction-type vehicles in that lot, but I think it's related to the next phase of condos they're building next door. No digging in the lot or equipment crates. However, there was a Tesla road-show at Stonefield this weekend with some X's and an...

    Supercharger - Charlottesville, VA

The Hyatt Place at Stonefield has two destination chargers. There's also a surface lot downtown at 1st and Market St. with another destination charger as well as a DC charger, according to PlugShare. My wife is a regular at Tru Pilates Studio, which would just be a couple of blocks away from...

    Firmware 8.0

It's about avoiding surprising behavior when I, the driver, am 100% liable for the operation of the vehicle. Given that there was no obvious-to-me reason for the car to slow down below the speed I had set, and no prior expectation that this behavior even existed, I was surprised that the car...

Lift gate FULL of water on my CPO P85

I had that same issue earlier this year with a bad seal on the rear applique. Trunk shower The service center fixed the problem, but I did need to battle a little bit of funk that set in as the carpet had stayed damp due to frequent rain storms. You may want to ask to have the carpeting and...

Be honest: is SCing on a long trip annoying?

My rubric is charging an extra 10% of the estimated consumption, so if it would take 60% to get to the next stop, I'll charge to 66%. Having a flat floor of N-percent across the board is sub-optimal

Be honest: is SCing on a long trip annoying?

I took a road trip back in May from Charlottesville, VA to Savannah, GA via the South Hill, Lumberton, and Santee SuperChargers, then up to Asheville, NC via Santee and Greenville, and then back home via Wytheville and Lexington. With longer trips, where the one thing I have to do in a day is...

Next SuperCharger to open in Virginia?

I checked the usual suspects in the Albemarle County permitting system this morning and nothing jumps out as being Tesla-related. I had spoken to a local commercial realtor who helped Tesla pick a location last year, but haven't heard anything since then.

Pack rebuild to take 4 months

My battery was red-flagged by engineering during a routine trip through the service center when the logs showed charging problems and was swapped for a loaner battery the first week of September 2015. The service center called me in December to reunite the pack with the car and picked up the...

    Energy Widget Caution Icon?

I, too, in the past couple of weeks saw the yellow triangle, with no dashed lines, on the top end during a road trip. It was boring interstate driving at normal SoC, but I'd been at it for several hours that day with a couple of supercharger stops. It turned on and off a couple of times, but...

    Trunk shower

That's helpful, thank you. When this happened to you, was there water also visible inside the taillight assembly? I think I can rig something up that'll stay put to at least cover the rear of the hatch deck as it's predicted to be rainy until my service appointment next week. I only wish my...

    Trunk shower

For a moment this morning, I thought I heard sloshing and dismissed it. Later in the day, I opened the trunk and about a pint of water pours out from behind the hatch pull-down handles as though a glass had been knocked over. I usually duck into the trunk while it's opening, so shower time...

    Looser steering

It's probably the temperature. Below 50F, summer tires on my P85D are a poor choice; the tire compound gets hard and the tires will routinely skip when pulling out of my driveway or making sharp turns at low speeds. If you have a torque wrench, you can also check that that your lug nuts are...

Tesla's response to me leaking info about the P100D?

*Shrug* I was assuming all of this firmware-poking was happening on the CID, which is used for communication purposes. Man asks his lawyer: "Is this legal?" Lawyer: "Yes, if you're acquitted." ... but I digress. Tesla has a pretty fantastic mobile (wearable?) computing platform. It's a real...

Tesla's response to me leaking info about the P100D?

The apparent fact of the matter is that Telsa's release-engineering process left information that they did not intend to make public on hardware owned by someone else who has the ability and inclination to understand the operation of the devices that he possesses. As the saying goes "If you...

    Can I reset preconditioning?

This is what the Nest Thermostat's scheduler looks like. This screenshot is from the web app, but the mobile apps have the same setup. If the car UI had something like this where you just slide and tap-to-adjust the times and temperatures, the preconditioning would be usable.

The AP Lane Keeping Bias to the Right is Not Safe, please fix this Elon!

I travel this 55mph road to work each morning and AP's lane biasing, combined with intermittent detection of the low curb on the median side, makes the car act like it's going to cut people off in the right-hand lane. At a minimum, it's unnerving to use AP on this stretch of road. Other 45+...

Autopilot is doing a much better job of following the lane in the presence of exit-lanes or wyes in the painted lines. Ludicrous Upgrade Scheduling?

I just got off the phone with Tysons SC since my car is already in to correct some suspension noises and to have its original battery reinstalled after being reworked at Fremont. Next SuperCharger to open in Virginia?

It's far from 64, but Route 29 is pretty much the main north-south corridor to NoVA / DC once you get west of I-95, but want to stay east of the mountains. The Stonefield location would be great for the Burlington, NC via Charlottesville to DC drive, while a charger in Staunton/Fishersville...
