    Charge limit % moves

79%, but what's the point in having an app for it when that doesn't do what it is supposed to?
  2. Jeeves

    Charge limit % moves

I use the very fiddly slider on the iPhone app to set the charge limit to 80%. Afterwards, WatchApp for Tesla and ev.energy report the limit as being 80%. After charging last night, the Tesla app now reports the charge limit as 79% whilst the other apps still report 80%. I realise that it...

Pre Conditioning for SuC - is this right?

I think the aim of preconditioning is to minimise time spent charging, rather than cost, so journey and charger occupancy times are shortened.

Pre Conditioning for SuC - is this right?

I’ve had it too. It is different to how it used to be. No idea why, but presuming it isn’t a bug, I imagine Tesla have determined it is more efficient.

    South of London Superchargers

I'm not too far away. I wish they had some in west Wales. Pleased to see some planned for Devon and Cornwall on the map.

    Yep, stone chip.

Having trouble unpluging home charging cable...

From the manual: WHITE: The charge port door is open. Model 3 is ready to charge and the connector is not inserted, or the charge port latch is unlocked and the connector is ready to be removed. BLUE: Model 3 detects that a connector has been plugged in. BLINKING BLUE: Model 3 is communicating...

This. I understood the light needs to turn white before you can detach the cable.

M3LR 2020 fan running when vehicle unattended

I think it is normal, from the Maintenance section of the owners manual: '… Also, even when not in use, you may hear Model 3 emit a whining noise or the sound of water circulating. These sounds are normal and occur when the internal cooling systems turn on to support various vehicle functions...

    Considering winter tyres

Can't say I noticed that myself, but what any individual perceives as undesirable noise in a car is subjective. Either choice will be fine I'm sure.

M3P 20" Tyre Pressure and Tread Wear

If you can find somewhere that has Hunter HawkEye Elite equipment, they can do it. I just dug out my last invoice and it was for £56.40.

    Considering winter tyres

Numerous YouTube videos about it including this one posted by @Dangerous Fish were what finally persuaded me. Some rather hairy experiences with 20" BMW run flats made me consider the idea in the first place.

M3P 20" Tyre Pressure and Tread Wear

I'd shop around for the alignment. There's nothing special about a Tesla in this regard (except for having to take a metal shroud off the rear motor to get at some of the adjustment points), and I got it done for under £100 last time at a place where they charge based on the number of...

    Considering winter tyres

It's not really about snow, but rather the poor performance of the summer tyres in temperatures below 7ºC, particularly in the wet. Your braking distance will be significantly diminished on the A40/M40 when cold even if the road is salted. That's why cross-climate tyres are probably a better...

Charge to 100% break it down for me

😂 With all the apps at our disposal, it isn't hard or inconvenient to time the full charge for your intended departure time, nor is it difficult/inconvenient to avoid completely depleting the battery. Even if you did leave it sitting full for a while on occasion, it wouldn't be the end of the...

  19. Jeeves

Charge to 100% break it down for me

It is. Even iPhones try to intelligently control the last bit of charging so that it is full just as you start using it again in the morning. I suppose the difference is that the modems and background app updates start to drain the battery immediately whereas the car won't until you drive it. I...

I don't think it makes a difference for me.

Sentry mode has triggered alarm state

Assuming there is nothing major happening to your car, it should return to Standby state after 30 seconds. All you can do is track the location of the car and take comfort in the fact that footage will be available for you to view when you do get back to it. I hope it all turns out to be OK.

    UK Tesla App v4

Alas my car is too old to enjoy the delights of a heated steering wheel.
  23. Jeeves

    UK Tesla App v4

At least you managed to find the button. I wanted to put the heated rear screen on remotely this morning and couldn't find the control (used WatchApp for Tesla instead). Just discovered that I must swipe up when viewing the Climate Controls on the Tesla app. Don't understand why they decided to...

M3P 20" Tyre Pressure and Tread Wear

Wow, I only got about 20k on mine although some sidewall damage precipitated a slightly premature change.

    Auto Wipers are awful

That's daft isn't it. They don't come on often enough for you, yet the opposite is true for me. I wonder how that can be?

    Auto Wipers are awful

I recently replaced my wiper blades, and I found that, after cleaning the screen, the M3 was switching on the fast speed wipers in more appropriate conditions. However, it was far from perfect and too slow to switch back to the slower speed. I found I had to switch off Auto to stop it beating...

What's the best accessory for your model 3?

A 12v compressor to pump up the tyres and a separate digital pressure gauge with a bleed feature to get the pressures accurate.

Apple Homekit / HomePod / Siri Tesla control/interrogation of the car

Thanks. I'll wait until I know you've got things working again on iOS 15 before experimenting with it. If I could improve the reliability, I'd use Siri and shortcuts quite frequently again now.

Apple Homekit / HomePod / Siri Tesla control/interrogation of the car

I might be wrong, but the other shortcut implemented the loop being discussed on the github. It didn't always take 90s to run.

Apple Homekit / HomePod / Siri Tesla control/interrogation of the car

Thanks very much for this. You've probably saved me a huge amount of time. It would be great if you would post updates here on your progress. Tesla Remote had a specific 'Awaken until awake' shortcut that introduced a 90s timeout. It did make all the shortcuts more reliable, but not foolproof...

Apple Homekit / HomePod / Siri Tesla control/interrogation of the car

Thanks for mentioning this. I'll not bother trying mine again. I started to get a bit uncomfortable with lots of different apps having the creds to my Tesla account and decided to enable only WatchApp for Tesla a while back. I notice that now has shortcuts, so I may try to get that to work. I...

    UK Tesla App v4

Yep, in my case I'm shown with black instead of chrome. I also don't like the fact that the mirrors are not retracted which would be a useful indication that the car is probably locked.

    Advice - potential new owner

I've never paid anything approaching the sticker price for a BMW. That said, I wonder if deals will be available on their EVs any time soon. My Tesla lease is up in a year. I don't think there will be much viable choice then due to the public charger network maturity. We'll see.
  34. Jeeves

Apple Homekit / HomePod / Siri Tesla control/interrogation of the car

Yes I used Shortcuts, but I've hardly used them since lockdown (no commute). I just looked at the shortcuts I built. They used the Tesla Remote app: 'Get the car ready for work' would open the frunk, stop the car charging and open the charge port. 'Warm up the car' would turn on either max heat...

    Advice - potential new owner

The build quality and materials choices aren't as good as BMW's in my opinion. It's nearly there, but not quite as pleasing. Tesla are obviously working hard to get to the right price point and having to make compromises in that regard taking into account the cost of the battery/drive train. I...

Is a Tesla easy to steal?

Thank you. I was aware, but for some reason the icon to unlock the charge port isn't displayed sometimes even though I have that set as a preference. Even when it is and I tap it, by the time I walk out to the car it still hasn't woken up sometimes. Getting the phone out, unlocking the car and...

Is a Tesla easy to steal?

+1 I find the health tracking, Apple Pay, walking navigation, HomeKit Siri Control and ability to add reminders the most useful features (over and above telling the time). As @Cardo says, nothing you can't do with the phone, but so much more convenient than you might imagine. WatchApp for...

    BP Pulse account administration?

No comfort I know, but bp.com isn't the only website that doesn't allow you to change the email address associated with an account online. Halfords is another example. It is completely bonkers. BP's rebranding of Polar and Chargemaster seems to be a bit of a clusterfuck. The apps and websites...

    Spare rims for winter tyres

Interesting that you think the ride is more comfortable, I can't say I particularly noticed that. I wouldn't say I hoon around, but I do find the PS4s help me enjoy the performance characteristics of the car more. Curbs are the nemesis for my 20" rims. Would be so much better if the sidewalls...

    Spare rims for winter tyres

All your questions are answered in the threads @VanillaAir_UK kindly posted in #2. His advice about the insurers is sound. If you lease the car, then let them know too. I'd recommend going for it. The YouTube videos that show how braking performance degrades with low temperatures on summer...

Tyre pressure alert this morning - all values the same?

Last time I got that, there was a screw in the tyre. I find the pressures quite sensitive to temperature, so I check them every couple of weeks—more frequently if I'm doing lots of miles. FWIW, I find the gauges on compressors inaccurate. I just bought one of these gauges with a bleed feature...

    Wifi

Might be a red herring, but I recently had some difficulty with TP-Link Deco software updates, the car stopped seeing the networks. It eventually got fixed with another update. Just saying that it would be worth checking the firmware is up to date in whatever is serving your Wi-Fi network.

    Model 3 Servicing

If you do bottom this out with Leaseplan, it would be great to hear about it. When I first got the car I asked about it and got the same response as @davidmc from Leaseplan and Tesla i.e. it isn't required. That said, I think the brake fluid check is rather important. All my previous cars have...

Model 3 (not so!) Long range

Well said. EVs do require a bit of a change in mindset—especially with their current range and paucity of chargers. They require a little bit of planning that you wouldn't need in an ICE car, but in my experience, that rarely makes them slower or more inconvenient. I find ABRP really helpful.
