Hankook iON evo AS vs Bridgestone Turanza EV vs Goodyear ElectricDrive GT vs Pirelli PZero AS Plus ELECT

Tirerack did a comparison of some of the TUV tested tires against a variety of other tires. Interesting video.

Here's a test by Tirerack where they compared a bunch of different tires across categories on an M3P.

The height may be the same on later M3Ps, but either the springs or shocks or both are different.

Highland Front Styling, Better or Worse?

I always thought of this car as looking frog-like. :)

Highland Front Styling, Better or Worse?

When the new model 3 was released, Tesla said it was more aerodynamic, and they stated a number for its Cd. I don't remember what the number was off the top of my head, but the difference is fairly small compared to the original Model 3.

Maybe putting some silicone seal where the inserts attach to the wheel would help. Just a thought.

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

I wonder if it would be better for the suspension to be left in comfort mode. That should result in a little more weight shift to the rear, and with the new rear motor and larger rear tires, I think it might actually help traction, if traction is a factor at all.

Highland Front Styling, Better or Worse?

I find the new nose to be cleaner and more elegant, but also more generic. It looks a lot like a Honda S2000. The old car's nose is more distinctive, but also a little funny looking. Overall, it's a wash for me. I like the new Performance model's styling better. It adds a little bit of the...

    265/35 vs 275/35 Conti DWS06+ on 19x9.5

The important question is, how much is the added wind resistance of the bike decreasing your range?:D P.S. That amount of wobble is definitely not something to worry about. It sounds like the wheel chock is working well for you.

    Supercharger - Kayenta, AZ

Two things on the positive side of the ledger for your drive. Since you're going from west to east, you're much more likely to have a tail wind than a head wind, but no guarantee on that since it's weather dependent. Also, 10% on ABRP is a pretty good buffer in my experience, so I think you'll...

    Supercharger - Kayenta, AZ

So, about 230 miles with some elevation gain. I think you'll be fine as long as you keep your speeds around the speed limit. I'd spend the extra time to charge up to 99 or 100 percent in Page to be on the safe side. And I assume you have somewhere to charge in Mesa Verde lined up. I actually...

I'd say there's pretty much zero chance of it being open by then. You need to plan some alternatives.

The coilovers arrived and look good, considering 10k miles in the Northeast. A little cleanup, and they look ready for installation. 👍 to the seller and thank you for an excellent deal.

    265/35 vs 275/35 Conti DWS06+ on 19x9.5

I don't know if lowering your tire inflation pressures a bit would help or not, but it would be easy to try. I'd be a bit concerned about the bike rack in the first video, but I wouldn't worry about the one in the second on the roof rack. It's interesting that the racks in both videos are going...

Supercharger - Bryce Canyon City, UT

A few years ago we spent the night at a place in Bryce where they had both rooms and RV spaces with 14-50 outlets. We got both and charged the car up overnight.

    Ants attracted to charging port

Windex is another option that I've found to be very effective on the little black Argentine ants; I would expect it work well on other ants too.

    255/40 on 19x9.5 +35

By going to 19s instead of 20s, you already have a lot more sidewall, about 12 to 13 mm. 255/40 has about 9mm more sidewall than 265/35. How much you need is something only you can determine. If you really want more sidewall, 18s are the way to go.

    265/35 vs 275/35 Conti DWS06+ on 19x9.5

Looking at the picture, I see little to no compression on your tires where the arms contact them. Don't be afraid to put some heft into clamping the arms down; it's still a lot less than the force on the wheels and tires when you're riding on a trail. I weigh about 200 pounds and put most of my...

Go into order for a Model 3 Performance, select Cash, then click on Customize near the "potential incentivees". You'll have to move to the left a couple of windows, but it should show the Federal tax credit of $7,500. Then add in full self driving, and you should still see the $7,500 credit, but...

The seller has been around here for a while and I paid with Paypal goods and services so I have some recourse if there is a problem. Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Last year I sold my 2018 LR and bought a 2023 M3P when the prices were cut. The main reasons I wanted the M3P were for the Track Mode, the better low end acceleration, and the better brakes in that order. Past 70 MPH, there is zero difference in acceleration between the two cars, but it's pretty...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

For whatever reason, Panasonic just hasn't ramped up their battery production in Reno enough to keep up with the Model 3 and Model Y demand. They don't even have enough to put into the Model 3 LR, so it isn't eligible for the US tax credit. Whether the fault lies with Panasonic just not being...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I don't think we've seen any good 1/4 mile runs for a new M3P with the LG battery yet. Someone is going to have to go to the effort of having a high state of charge, over 90%, and then getting the battery warmed up, before doing the 1/4 mile run. It would be really interesting to see a Pano vs...

I'm interested, and will take them if they are for the AWD model, not the RWD model, and if you are willing to ship. I would pick up the shipping cost of course. Also, I'm assuming that they are in good working condition.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It would be fun if they made a true "Plaid" model 3. Put the Model S Plaid motors in front and rear, remove the back seat, and put in extra batteries to bring it up to Model S levels where the back seat usually goes. It should end up a bit lighter than the Model S Plaid, although not as much as...

2024 Model 3 Performance Announced - Discussion thread post announcement

Tesla had a 5 to 1 stock split in 2020 and a 3 to 1 stock split in 2022, so that 2300 shares in 2016 would be 34,500 shares today if none were sold. The, 2300 shares bought in 2016 at $15 per share would have cost $34,500, and today they'd be worth $6,037,500, so a little more than $6 million...

Any EV eligible for the tax credit will depreciate hard from the list price. It's probably more appropriate to look at the depreciation starting from the list price minus the credit amount. When looked at that way, Teslas have been depreciating less than most of their competition.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

My understanding is that the Model S Plaid has adjustable shocks like the new M3P plus it has air springs. For technology, I would say that the Plaid is still superior. I drove a new Model S non-plaid a while back, and when you put it into track mode it tightens up and handles much better. It's...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It will be interesting to see, but I think the Ion Evo will probably end up in the ultra high performance summer tires, one notch down from the max performance summer tires. It appears to be more of a Pilot Sport 5 competitor than a Pilot Sport 4s competitor.

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

The only place I see the Ion Evo summer tire is on Hankook's website. It isn't showing up on Tirerack, Discount Tire, or Les Schwab's websites. I haven't seen any independent tests of it, so I'm wondering where the conclusion comes from that it, "matches or beats the PS4 and PS4S summer tires"...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I find it difficult to believe that the Ion evos would provide better grip than Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires in the dry. The Sport 4s, while not as grippy as the Pilot Sport 4S, are pretty good, and there's typically a significant difference in dry grip when dropping from a Max Performance...

Well, if Kyle were trying to compete with Consumer Reports, I think you'd have a good point. I think it's pretty obvious that Kyle's target audience is car enthusiasts. Enthusiasts are generally much better informed about cars than the general population, and for them, Kyle's thoughts are...

Kyle is a serious car enthusiast, and he was obviously excited about how the new M3P drives, similar to how Jason Cammisa was about the M3P. In 2023, who's making the best all-weather, all-season tires for the Tesla Model 3?

When talking all season tires, there are performance and touring versions. For the best of both, the performance ones have better steering feel and better grip in the dry and wet, but the touring ones have a better ride and are quieter. The all weather tires are similar to the touring all season...
