    Roadster PEM failure

From the error code list might be useful 4 u 935 Line Over Voltage Vault - Poor Grid Quality - to be expected when charging from a generator or using a long extension cord 1063 / utilities / poor grid quality

    PEM FAN Connector pin identification

The yellow coded cables belonged to the PEM fan, the red ones to the motor fan (was changed to one fan later). Black almost always is used for minus. In the new design the blacks and yellow/red are combined. Any data on the Model 3 fan. I assume it will draw to much amps and best case blow the...

    Seats (interior) color codes

Does anyone have color code(s) for the seats? I'm getting mine upholstered and I don't want the guy to cut a little piece out from the backside to determine the exact color... It's a Jet Black (car color) 2009 2.0 EU VIN SFZRE2B1XA3000112 Signature. Seats are one color: black (but what black...

Overnight Fire at Gruber Motors in Arizona

The most dangerous work might be a level 1 recovery where the pack remains inside the car and is being tried to charge again with "outside" current. EV Mix Nielsen eg wrote to me that he won't perform this kind of operation now anymore rather than taking the pack out of the car and then trying...

Overnight Fire at Gruber Motors in Arizona

Carl Medlock just updates his report. 30 Roadsters lost plus 10 additional cars (I assume older S and X). Man, what a loss. Feeling so sorry for all the owners :/

    Roadster PEM failure

1.5ers have a different setup for charging (part of the motor coil is used) and the PEM is different partly in design and supposed to had "military grade" capacitors eg.... (better than the later 2.x) From the messages I'm not really sure if it is an insulation (not isolation, we German...

    Roadster History Europe/APAC

Another difference is the head lights, especially the Xenons. US are much stronger / brighter compared to EU due to regulations for Xenons without automatic cleaning system... Especially for the "northern" 2.x a so called "snow dam" was added by Tesla to reduce the amount of debris in the air...

Powertrain Problem; ID 276; BSM: V_ESS Too Low During Precharge

since 1.5ers use part of the coil of the motor when charging (TZero patent) that makes sense. Otherwise it sounds much for trouble (moisture) in the DC/DC converter in the front. One guy disassembled it and changed the faulty parts; can't find it back but I guess it was on the Facebook Roadster...

    2.X battery capacity

In other threads different mAh types of batteries, even mixing them to gain some benefits have been discussed (doesn't mean the packs are really done in this way though!). Even the reduction of the announced kWh from 56 to 53 is mentioned.... And sheets are different since the 1.5er for example...

    2.X battery capacity

53kWh for 1.5 and 56kWh for 2.x could be correct but also not. Has been discussed in the TMC and unfortunately the link to webarchive with the pdf is not valid anymore. Roadster battery (ESS) Sheets are indeed interchangeable between 1.5 and 2.x as long as CAC fits I add some pics for...
  21. DanielFriederich

    2.X battery capacity

Differences between batteries: the 1.5ers had slightly less kWh than the later 2.x (153 kWh compared to 156 kWh). also the 1.5 don't have a separate 12V battery, they get it from the 2 most right sheets in the battery pack which in some cases caused dead battery packs (12V power drainage over...

    PEM FAN Connector pin identification

unsoldered the Molex from the PCB and soldered 4 pins into the PCB since my cables were to big. Soldered the cables to the pins and the other end to the new plug connector insided the PEM. no modification to board!
  25. DanielFriederich

    PEM FAN Connector pin identification

I exchanged the original Molex - since it gets more amps than it is rated for - to a 12V 4 pin connector able to handle the amperage. Some soldering and metal cutting is necessary but it's worth the effort.

    VIN 213 Signature Series

Welcome to the club! This color should be quite rare, looks nice! As far as I can see it's a 2.0 Sport with a conversion of the radio slot to DIN2. You might check in the forum here, there's a list (not complete) about Roadsters and their history. Greetz from #112 ;)

    Roadster PEM failure

The PEM is basically standard inverter electronics, so called h-bridge design. H-bridge - Wikipedia The non "digital" parts are standard electronics parts and IGBTs don't have to be "matched" like you would have to do in a hifi amp. The tricky part is the main board which you see immediately...

    Roadster PEM failure

Preserving battery charge is the main thing when it comes to charging / PEM errors. So don't drive. If you put it into drive and it works (short test) I would go for the fuses in the little compartment of the PEM. If it stays red and produces the errors again it quit likely indicates an IGBT...

GS Technology Switzerland GS Technology They don't advertise it on their web site but there's a thread about it on the German Roadster Forum TFF. Their nickname is eMG. Dual Blower fan retrofit

The Molex connector at the PEM (the very right one, 4 Pin) is known to get burned easily after the fan conversion. The 2 pairs of cabling are connected together at the connector at the fan motor. Inside the PEM on the PCB they are separated. After I went into a lot of trouble with a burned pin I...

Powertrain Problem; ID 276; BSM: V_ESS Too Low During Precharge

The 400V DC/DC converter is known for being very "sensitive" to moist and water (I therefore never go into a car wash with my Roadster). GS Technology in Switzerland have developed a replacement for the DC converter. The original part comes from Epersbächer (German automotive company) but you...

    Validation Prototypes (VPs)

In my opinion a different motor (stronger) motor would not directly lead to more power on the wheels. Actually it has - if I remember right - a steady performance of 47kW and a asynchronous electrical motor can be overloaded a lot when the heat is transferred away. Going from 3.9 down to 3.2...

    Roadster Service E-Mail

Even though my Model 3 is faster, stiffer, more range, sticking to the road like on rails (like the Lancia Delta HF integrale my brother used to have around 1990s...) I don't think I would sell my Roadster. When I sit down in it I always get reminded on all the flaws it had already (PEM...

    Roadster PEM failure

    Transparent Roadster Top

Mine fitted more or less ok (some smaller gaps, but dry inside and plain with the roll bar and the front). You have to be careful with the isolation rubber so it doesn't get stuck... if this is not the case then it might be bent a bit and therefore it doesn't fit? BTW: making claims with Visium...

    PEM second failure

As far as I know until now only one case with a blown capacitor is documented by Gruber. I was told that 2 different grades of capacitors were used in the PEM; standard and military grade... but I don't have any further intel about that. I agree with the remark: every good electronics repair...
