Vision-Based Attention Monitoring - problem, small or squinting eyes

It's the laser detector that's the problem. Valentine is tuned to pick up IR wavelengths which are commonly used in traffic camera laser speed detectors. Any IR blaster will cause the problem, including all other MFG's hands-free systems, which use IR eye tracking.

My experience using FSD on a road trip from CA to ID - and how Tesla responded to problems

Pretend it's called something else. Now - would it still piss you off as much? Or would a different name make it more acceptable/palatable? "What's in a name? That which we call a rose, by any other name would smell as sweet."

    FSD Supervised Poll

FSDS is no different than manual driving. You're the driver. Do whatever you do normally. If the car starts to do something wrong, you're already in control, just like you were if you were manually driving. The plain and simple fact is that some people treat FSDS like it's autonomous. It's not.

    RADAR: 76GHz - 81GHz Infrared: 10MHz - 1GHz Sounds like a poor RADAR detector. :)

Where I am in SoCal, there are several Tesla service centers available in a 50 mile radius. Do you have other service centers near you that you can contact to see if they have more bandwidth?

Anyone have highway "ping-ponging" with FSD 12.5.1?

Yes - mine started doing this when I got on v12.3.6, and only on the freeway stack (v11). On city streets it does not ping pong, but on the freeway, it will sometimes very slightly shift back and forth in the lane. It's gentle, but can cause motion sickness in some passengers. The only thing...

Autosteer (beta) is threatening to remove my autopilot feature that existed since 2018-2024?

Strikeouts are cleared after 1 week. Be careful when driving to keep your hands on the wheel and enough torque to keep the nags away. Doesn't take much - I can put enough torque on the wheel with just my thumbs so that I never get a nag prompt. Sucks we all have to deal with nags/cabin camera...

  11. D

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I'm actually confused - LOL What was the correct maneuver here? Was she telling you to make a U-turn? There's no left option - the cones would seem to mean you can only drive to the right. Or was she trying to indicate that it's narrowed to 1-way-only-traffic, and that the left side...

Regret purchasing FSD after the Ver 12 "upgrade" being crammed down my throat

Not so sure about "normal". By itself, yes, it tends to drive under the speed limit, but once cars start moving around the Tesla, it is supposed to pick up speed to match traffic. If someone is coming up behind me, my car starts accelerating, usually going over the speed limit. Genie...

Regret purchasing FSD after the Ver 12 "upgrade" being crammed down my throat

Curious what you think your options are in a free market economy. There is definitely a therapeutic element to venting on a web forum, but aside from that, can you give us some realistic options that will solve your problem?
  15. D

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

So not a safety issue. Good point, and helps keep the discussion focused.
  16. D

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

NHTSA handles safety issues for cars. There are some recalls for trim and motor issues for some Tesla wipers, but nothing about the auto wipers. Recalls over AP and FSD Beta, but nothing on the auto wipers. Recalls over safety features, but nothing on the auto wipers. Why is that, do you think?
  17. D

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I disagree about Alan. He's tough on points, and he and I disagree on several of them, but he's acknowledged that FSD Beta has improved significantly in the last few years. He even acknowledges that he's not personally had some issues reported, like wheel curbing. He's a few sticking points away...

Regret purchasing FSD after the Ver 12 "upgrade" being crammed down my throat

There's a lot to unpack there, so I'll just say that Tesla is not the car for you. You'd be more happy with another MFG. Good news is there are many EV choices on the market now. One is bound to please you.

Make your robotaxi predictions for the 8/8 reveal

Not sure if you guys are thinking far enough into the future. Gen Alpha is already on a path towards AVs - the majority (over 50%) of people I know in their late teens / early 20s don't have a driver's license, don't want a driver's license, and don't want to drive. They prefer Uber, having a...

Oooo - even better - re-route to the local emergency room! I can use the cabin camera to tell if you're drunk, and then re-route to the local police station!! Or, if it sees a hot person in the passenger seat, re-route to a local motel!!

Regret purchasing FSD after the Ver 12 "upgrade" being crammed down my throat

True or false: you had to learn the operation of your non-Tesla vehicle at some point in time? You read the manual? You learned how to activate your cruise control, and how to adjust it's speed? You learned how to cancel it? Why would anyone use equipment without learning how to operate it...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Yeah that's a tough one. I'm of two minds on the Yellow Light procedures. On one hand, I think it's bad driving to put your foot down when the light turns yellow, as so many typically do. Invariably you'll end up speeding, as you were already likely going to the speed limit as you approached...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Really? Hmmmm... It's almost like different places have different driving styles. You mean a driver from Hawaii would get honked at on LA freeways? 🤔
  25. D

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

That's not really what I'm seeing on human drivers. Has nothing to do with ADAS.
  26. D

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I call it the rush to the red light. So many drivers are impatient and fear that someone will get in front of them, so they haul ass to beat the cars around them, and then brake fairly hard at the red lights. There's just no chill anymore.
  27. D

My experience using FSD on a road trip from CA to ID - and how Tesla responded to problems

It's definitely pointing to legit phantom braking - which just means the system "thought it saw" something and braked to avoid an interaction. It's like when you swear you saw something out of the corner of your eye, but when you look there's nothing there. It's a bummer you had those -...

My experience using FSD on a road trip from CA to ID - and how Tesla responded to problems

Sounds like a terrible experience - glad you're okay. Out of curiosity, after you subscribed to FSD: 1) Did you get a software update for the car (Settings -> Software) 2) Did you see the new FSDS settings in Settings -> Autopilot, and enable FSDS? 3) Did you have ASSO (Automatic Set Speed...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

So weird - I totally get the below the speed limit when I'm alone, or just 1 or 2 other cars. But the second more cars start to show up, someone coming up behind me, some cars in the next lane starting to pass me, the speed increases to match them - then I'm suddenly going over the speed limit...

I'm curious about the "hit the pedal" I see lots of people comment. I'd like some clarification from people on this: When you have to "hit the pedal", is there traffic around you at the time? Is your car not keeping up with cars around you? Or is this when you're alone?

  35. D

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

There is advanced 4D radar available now that can bounce off nearly everything in order to see around corners and "through" objects like cars in front of you. Doubtful Tesla will employ these advanced sensors based on past experience.

I can partially agree with your thoughts here, but Douma is not an uneducated bag-boy at your local supermarket. "Mindless" is not a word I'd attribute to him. But Douma may have pulled the wool over all our eyes, and he is not highly educated, well versed in computer sciences, and recently...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Correct - but you're missing my point. A large percentage of people thought HW3 would be upgradable to HW4. That "hypothesis" was based on past experience. MCU1 being upgraded to MCU2. HW2.5 being upgraded to HW3. Once HW4 came out, and Tesla said it wasn't upgradeable without...

Silly Poll: When will hw3 cars get FSD 12.5?

It's the Tesla equivalent of "I'm not touching you" when you were a kid Rule: don't touch your sister So you put your finger 1 inch from her and say "I'm not touching you" She screams at your parents that you're annoying her, but you're not breaking the rule.

Silly Poll: When will hw3 cars get FSD 12.5?

One interesting thing I've noticed after watching many review videos over months/years is that some complain/gasp when the car doesn't do something wrong. IE: The car didn't hit the road sign (orange construction sign), but the reviewer was alarmed and commented that it was "too close" and...

Regret purchasing FSD after the Ver 12 "upgrade" being crammed down my throat

The grand point is that you'll never make everyone happy. Even if you make 95% of people happy, 5% will scream bloody murder about how terrible it is. With 2 million cars, that's 100,000 people who will utterly hate it, and some of those people will take time out of their day to post on forums...

You're starting to see where things get dicey. The problem is that legislation is SLOW to react to market forces/changes. Most states are still in a "wait and see" phase, watching how technology moves rapidly forward for AVs. Right now, AVs in California cannot be cited - but legislators are...

Assuming is dangerous - I don't recommend it. Personally, I've always understood that technology changes and gets better. I've always understood that cars get new features with more "power" as time goes on, and if you want that power, you sell your car and buy the new one. It's been this way...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I think your timetable is a little off. FSD Beta (back in v10) was running NNs. There were several, handling different aspects. And there was hard-coded portions acting as guard-rails and edge cases. Most of us can remember when the planner, which used to be hard-coded, was switched to a new...
