    Unusual intermittent solar production issue

Netzero is limited here -- diagnostics can only be retrieved from a device on the local network, so the app would have to be running continuously for time series data. I would suggest Powerwall-Dashboard for that.

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

This sounds like a major hassle! If you have the VPP-specific backup reserve option, you can try setting that to 100%, that should also act as an off toggle. Also, to avoid grid charging after the VPP event, you can set your VPP-specific backup reserve higher than the normal backup reserve...

    Unusual intermittent solar production issue

Yes, all these strings seem problematic. I assume it was clear at the time and no shading? Current should definitely be higher when the panels are exposed to the sun (this time of year, and assuming reasonable pitch). Once you successfully scan a QR code, you should see that wifi network as a...

    Netzero App

Yes at that moment the string was producing, but that was one of the examples where your production was higher than usual. When a string is not producing the power will be much lower, with current and/or voltage at near 0. We're hypothesising a bit about what affects voltage and how large is...

    Unusual intermittent solar production issue

Yes, this is a one time diagnostics grab and you have to close to the gateway to connect to the built-in wifi. It should automatically reconnect back to the home wifi when done, but wifi switching is not very reliable. I've had some issues with Tesla One as well, but it does a better job...

    Unusual intermittent solar production issue

Yes, that's on the roadmap. You can get data from both PW+ if you connect to the built-in wifi (Scan QR code in Diagnostics). That method is not always reliable, so you can also give Tesla One a try if Netzero is giving you issues.

    Netzero App

Doesn't have to be peak, but it should be clear with the sun up and the panels exposed. The issue with short strings is the minimum voltage for MPPT. For Tesla's inverters that's 60V. With T400H panels, you should get around 35V per panel on a string, so with 2 panels you're just over the...

    Netzero App

Unfortunately the day you posted diagnostics for looks better than the other days (~6kW peak vs ~5kW). Try to capture string data on a day with lower production. But I already suspect one thing: looks like you have a short string, with around 2 panels. Do you have more short strings on your...

    Netzero App

Sounds like your Powerwalls were manufactured in 2019. I've heard from other users with 2019 Powerwalls (part numbers generally starting with 2012170) reporting higher degradation than expected. Note that capacity might fluctuate a bit and also doesn't decrease linearly, so it's hard to predict...

    Netzero App

That's expected yes, Netzero doesn't make use of the 192.168.91.1 route hack, because it's not something that can be configured on mobile. So you're still using the older gateway API here, which doesn't have all the data. I wish Tesla would just make this data more accessible :/

    PW3 + GW3 non-partial backup question

That’s a bug in the Tesla app. It tries to be smart and subtracts the vehicle load (retrieved from the car) from the house load (retrieved from the CT) to show them separate. But if the EV charger is not metered, the house load doesn’t include the charging load, the math doesn’t work out, and...

    Netzero App

That does look like an issue. Can you post string data from diagnostics on a clear day with the sun up? This has to do with data smoothing at the daily level, longer explanation here. The monthly estimate is accurate, but the daily data will look skewed because of the smoothing.

Health monitoring has been working better than expected: in less than two weeks, over 2% of eligible users got an alert. And these are all actionable alerts: full loss of solar production, issue with a solar string, or a disabled Powerwall. From what I've seen, the Tesla app doesn't alert when...

Loading the Tesla App on my devices keeps looping the Meet Your Powerwall/Your Powerwall is ready for use! screen

You probably tried this already, but instead of Skip For Now maybe watch the video? Maybe Tesla just really wants you to "Learn about life with Powerwall" :) Same for the utility plan, configure it instead of tapping Finish (I know it says optional, but worth trying.) I suspect this new...

Ah yes, that's another thing on my list: adding an option to specify morning and/or evening low/moderate/severe shading. Right now the dial you have to account for shading is the Loss %, but that uniformly reduces solar estimates throughout the day. Adjusting for morning/evening will fit the...

These estimates are based on PVWatts, so they're based on historical weather, not weather forecast. They're useful when looking at a longer time horizon (month/year). Connected Solutions Real-World Experiences (MA - National Grid / EverSource)

Are you seeing the grid charging in Time-Based Control or Self-Powered mode? And when you say you control the import using backup reserve, how do you change it? With the recent changes, Powerwall will always charge from the grid if the state of charge is below the backup reserve. Never ascribe...

How often do you “go off grid“ and is it reliable?

Sometimes you can swipe left on these promos to remove them, does it work for this one? Someone also mentioned you have to test the feature and be off-grid for some number of minutes, did you try that? Deleting the app will not help here, it might make things worse in fact -- sometimes the...

    24.20.0 firmware observations/problems

This sounds like it might be an issue with the switch from TBC to self-powered taking a few minutes (which I think was always the case, but may have gotten slower in recent firmware versions). You might want to change your automation back to self-powered to run around 8.45pm, to avoid being in...

    24.20.0 firmware observations/problems

If you're on firmware version 24.12.3 or above, you should already see this behavior. The main change is that Powerwall will charge from the grid whenever its state of charge is below the backup reserve, regardless of the grid charging toggle in the app. Note: if grid charging is restricted by...

    24.20.0 firmware observations/problems

No reason given. Oh and clarification, I was told the option would be removed for sites in self-powered mode. So I'm not sure how this would affect TBC, but I think the change as-is affects both modes.

    24.20.0 firmware observations/problems

I heard from some users on 24.28.1 already, there won't be any changes. I also got confirmation from Tesla's product team that the grid charging change was deliberate, and that the plan is to remove the toggle from the app.

Gateway Network - Ethernet "Configured but not connected, Check the ethernet cable connection."

Yes, you can ignore the gateway page. The gateway has two software ethernet interfaces (internal and home-facing) and the UI gets confused by that. /api/networks will give you the details.

    Stacked Powerwalls not passing inspection

Agreed, this will be very AHJ dependent. Multiple counties in SF Bay Area don't allow stacking: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/does-powerwall-have-a-ul-9450a-test-report.298289/

Tesla made some changes recently to Powerwall 3 diagnostics, so I need to fix a few things before Netzero will help there. Unusual intermittent solar production issue

You can use the Tesla One app or Netzero to get string diagnostics. You'll want to do that at peak production, both with and without the failing string. That might give you some more data to escalate the issue with Tesla.

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

I don't think VPP operators have much control over DSGS events, other than one test event per month to meet the minimum. The events are triggered by CAISO day-ahead prices, so they are governed by supply, demand, and the electricity market.

Powerwall 3 calibration in process, what is this?

I'm wondering if the PW3 calibration schedule depends on how often the Powerwalls are charged to 100%. LFP batteries need to be charged to 100% periodically for calibration reasons (I believe Tesla also recommends charging their LFP car batteries to 100% once a week). With Powerwalls, this will...

Powerwall 3 calibration in process, what is this?

Agreed -- these problems all seem related to the BMS, and since the chemistry is new for Powerwalls and LFP brings its own challenges, it's understandable that it would take some time to resolve the issues.

    Unusual intermittent solar production issue

There's a 24.20.0-pvac c29996fd out in the wild, but at low numbers (<0.2%). pvac is Tesla's nomenclature for the inverter, so that could possibly be a patched release for this issue.

Grid charging behavior (as it was before 24.12.3) is documented here: Grid Charging. Relevant sections: When set to ‘No,’ Powerwall will only charge from solar. I might add grid import triggers in the future. But since your Powerwall issue is only triggered under very high load (18kW), I would...

    Wrong Grid Reading by Powerwall

These are the grid CTs built into the gateway. They measure grid import and export. The CTs can also be disabled, if you have external CTs installed in your main panel. Tesla would do that if you have any loads that are not backed up, for example. The math on these screens doesn't check out --...

How to set Charge on Solar to start after powerwalls are at 100%?

Netzero doesn't manage car charging currently, so it won't help with Charge on Solar issues. The only feature that might be helpful is a notification when the Powerwalls are full (so you can then manually plug in the car).

They don't always charge at the max rate. I mentioned how different modes affect charging rates here, and @Matt-FL also observed a 15.4kW Storm Watch rate for his 4 PWs here. Sounds like your issue goes away when off-grid, so a simple gateway misconfiguration or Powerwall issue seems less...

No simple way to discharge Powerwall to the grid. Outside of VPP programs, it needs to be TBC mode, with export everything enabled, and a rate plan with sufficient difference between peak and off-peak prices. Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

Good question. I'm not too familiar with how pricing works, but if I had to guess: there's a lot of uncertainty in the day-ahead market (e.g. risk of heat or fires affecting supply), but those risks don't materialize in real-time. VPP/DR resources seem predictable enough that they would be...
