Has anyone installed a radar detector in a updated 2021 model S?

Curious why no one mounts the radar detector on their dash I've had it on my dash on my other car with no problem for 10+ years

It did, i still have it on my tablet, its on the upper right corner every time you open the app.

change order of cars in app

That is what I was told when I called tesla. Which ever Vin number shows up first that is the order they show up in. So now i have to wait and if they don't show up in the correct order you can call them and the "internet team" will have to change the order for you as that option is not...

Has anyone installed a radar detector in a updated 2021 model S?

Makes sense if that is the case. I don't have the car yet so can't verify anything but I would be curious if that threshold could be changed via software. I don't believe the detector has that high of a draw will have to check but it all depends on what that threshold is obviously. Like you said...

Has anyone installed a radar detector in a updated 2021 model S?

The camera and mirror get power, you just have to find the right wire and start probing with the MM. I'm still waiting for mine to arrive so won't be able to do anything unfortunately early.

change order of cars in app

Is it possible to change the order in which the cars appear in the app? For example I have to swipe a few times before I get to my car I just want it to be right next to my Powerball screen.

Has anyone installed a radar detector in a updated 2021 model S?

I would have to imagine it is getting power from some source near the mirror, you might have found a two conductor serial harness possibly but i'm sure there is power up there. Switched power is really key. I have to wait till next year unfortunately to begin testing on this model since it won't...

Has anyone installed a radar detector in a updated 2021 model S?

Has anyone looked at the mirror to see if there is a viable switched power tap there like the model x?

    Snippiness 2.0

Typical troll, have nothing of value to add  PS; For those wondering the same question, I found two different locations after looking at my neighbors 2021 X, will be posting DIY in the future when mine is delivered. You can mount high and low both relatively easy to tap.

    radar detector tap 2021/2022 X?

2021/2022 is supposed to be the same, you should know! You sure do like to argue don't you.

    radar detector tap 2021/2022 X?

Don't get offended chief, I asked as the title states for info on 2021/2022. If the mirror on the older and newer x is the same that's all you have to say. As I stated I don't know if they are the same or not. Since you are saying it is the same than thanks for the link The S is different than...

    radar detector tap 2021/2022 X?

That's an older model x, looking for newer one. Not sure if they are the same but likely not I would suspect Same question for new model s not sure if anyone has tapped it using the mirror

    radar detector tap 2021/2022 X?

Anyone have a convenient spot to tap for radar detector on new X?

Need to figure this out for new X as well if anyone has experience where to tap

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

Wong again, the data is known and easy to measure if you have the proper instrumentation which I have tested and passed the data along to Tesla Engineering and others. I also spend quite a bit time talking to Daniel and Hyperenginering and the developers at Micro about improvement their product...

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

Reality bites, this is why relying on specs and speculation doesn't mean anything. Having gone through this process I have a little more know how. I've spend a lot of time on the phone with Tesla engineering and installers engineering sorting out all the issues and options. Frankly it does not...

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

You are wrong, the 10AWG can can handle higher ampacity for inrush only without potential for meltdown and fire at given ambient temp, but the breaker will pop b/c the AC compressor inrush has a higher mS duration than what the breaker is rated for. If you wire to NEC and follow the rules you...

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

They have had similar HVAC ratings with the older PW2.0 and this is what the installers used that got them in trouble. I have the 2.1 tested and in the real world does not work with 2 PW. Lets assume the FW is not upgraded yet, there is one big piece people keep missing which is the ambient temp...

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

You have no idea. Been a very frustrating process which is why I keep cautioning others ---------------- I'm going to repeat this again for others: Bottom line, if you have an AC requirement, and are being told by the installer it works fine with just 2 PW, you are rolling the dice, be...

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

Yep all separate, new permit and wiring ---------------- I'm going to repeat this again for others: Bottom line, if you have an AC requirement, and are being told by the installer it works fine with just 2 PW, you are rolling the dice, be prepared to purchase a 3rd PW. Lastly you should do your...

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

Fair enough, I had not followed this thread or updated it in quite some time. My point is Tesla makes a lot of claims, don't believe everything you read. They claimed the original PW could support 2 AC and it clearly can't for everyone. Even the newer one touts this increased capacity will help...

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

Not to mention my neighbor just got two PW installed by Tesla themselves and they also have a softstart installed. Yep you guessed it with the same newer PW you keep touting
  31. A

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

This is why you should not make assumptions about other people's installs. I had my PW changed to the newer models a few weeks ago with the latest and newest Tesla PW stock. Even if I have the old ones they are planning on doing a software update to bring them up to the same spec, it is not a...

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

---------------- I'm going to repeat this again for others: Bottom line, if you have an AC requirement, and are being told by the installer it works fine with just 2 PW, you are rolling the dice, be prepared to purchase a 3rd PW. Lastly you should do your own math and due diligence, the PW is...
  33. A

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

Again i speak from experience. I have these "newer" PW and it makes no difference with the FW upgrade they claim. It still required the 3rd PW and soft starter. Not to mention what they claim is already what they have been doing to some degree already but instead they increased it. Even with 2...
  34. A

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

I have PW2 and that is not accurate.if that was the case Tesla themselves would not be installing a soft start! I speak from experience not what a spec says on a piece of paper. I'm not going to debate you either. Do as you wish but you have been warned. The sure start spec says it also works...

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

glad it worked out for you. ---------------- I'm going to repeat this again for others: Bottom line, if you have an AC requirement, and are being told by the installer it works fine with just 2 PW, you are rolling the dice, be prepared to purchase a 3rd PW. Lastly you should do your own math...

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

If the surestart is working with your compressor stick to it. I know on my system it worked better, but again it all depends on the compressor. That is why each company provides a range and not a static value in reduction. I'm going to repeat this again for others: Bottom line, if you have an...

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

MicroAir EasyStart, works well, actually much better than surestart unit but also costs more. I'm going to repeat this again for others: Bottom line, if you have an AC requirement, and are being told by the installer it works fine with just 2 PW, you are rolling the dice, be prepared to...

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

It won't be that that much, you should be fine, most fridge are energy efficient. The biggest problem with whole house backup is people don't understand simple math and rely too much on sales people. I should caveat, daytime and nighttime with and without solar is also different. I'm going to...

2xPowerwall whole house backup - HVAC sure start problem

Surestart does not work on all systems the same. On my Carrier 5-ton scroll compressor it only reduced the 134 LRA down to 70A which was not enough for 2 PW to start with no other load at all. In my case I got a 3rd PW and a different soft starter and it all works fine now. Bottom line, if you...

Dual Charger setup and Charging outdoor

With a single HPWC like clipper the install is simple, connect conduit whip to panel or junction box and done. No need to run conduit across the garage.

Dual Charger setup and Charging outdoor

I disagree, I also don't want to turn this into a battery debate, but I'm far more familiar with Li cell chemistry no offense. I've written a white paper about this for Defense use and have first hand experience. Let's agree to disagree and move on.

Dual Charger setup and Charging outdoor

that is fantastic to hear it has been trouble free for that long. I know the warranty they offer is good for 3 years, hopefully it lasts a good 10 years. From what I read they used to offer a 5 year warranty on earlier models.

Dual Charger setup and Charging outdoor

Thanks, I think from what I saw on some videos you can set the charging current but it can only be done in the car. And there was a mention based on GPS it remembers if I recall the schedule and charging current you set. I could be wrong as my memory is a bit fuzzy from all the information I've...

Dual Charger setup and Charging outdoor

Slow charging any Li cell chemistry prolongs the battery health, at this point there is enough published data, but each their own. I don't want to digress and go off track on this topic. Back to my question: Correct me if I'm wrong but as of right now you can only schedule charging in the...

Dual Charger setup and Charging outdoor

Agree, I think i got lucky due to where my sub panel is located and the wall I want to mount the HPWC. I asked this in another thread and I'll ask it here too: Correct me if I'm wrong but as of right now you can only schedule charging in the car, not on the app. And in the car you can set the...

Dual Charger setup and Charging outdoor

I agree, it should cover my needs, I'm a big proponent of taking care of your battery, would not want to charge at 48A even if I could. These batteries are not cheap to replace and degradation is a known issue with this cell chemistry. The cost is more for the charger but it saves a lot of time...

Dual Charger setup and Charging outdoor

Thanks for the feedback, I plan to mount this outside so it is good to know it is built to last. I just want a reliable charger at the end of the day. Sounds like this should fit the bill.

Dual Charger setup and Charging outdoor

Thanks for this information, I was not aware this J1772 adapter was needed with the hcs-d50, that is another $200 added to overall cost. The cost to run the conduit is not as much of a problem as the location of where the conduit has to be ran in the garage. Right now with the way my Sub panel...
