2021 Model S with Plaid badge

I don't think you missed anything but, for me, your question is a bit incomplete in that I thought you were simply asking whether we might have a car with LR software and tri-motor hardware. I didn't realize that such a mating would not be feasible, my being a computer neophyte. Love this car...

2021 Model S with Plaid badge

As far as I can tell there is only one thing about our S that says Plaid and that is the badge on the trunk lid. So how did a Plaid badge get on what is obviously an LR trunk lid since it doesn't have the larger spoiler that comes on the Plaid? I still haven't been able to figure out how to...

Payment method: Plaid vs direct draft

We inspected the car before signing anything and, happily, found no problems. And we financed with Tesla convinced we could make more than 2.49% on what we owed by keeping the balance invested. That has been our experience in the past anyway. Just a thought.

    Maximum Percentage Charge Fluctuating

Took a short trip this afternoon and plugged our 2021 S into the Tesla Wall Connector when er arrived home. We have always kept the maximum set at 84% and it has worked just fine. Today as soon as I plugged it in the message on the screen said the charge was at 72% and it was stopping the charge...

Extremely Disappointed With Model S Range When Driving on the Highway at 35F

A whole lot of different ways to approach this. A lot of different variables to consider. Without worrying about speed EVs are a whole lot more energy efficient than ICE cars and if you just look at ICE cars that perform comparably to the top Teslas it seems that the Teslas are somewhere around...

    Extending range to unlimited mileage

In addition to encouraging people to acquire more scientific knowledge we need to hope that more attention is paid to people like Greta who have digested that knowledge and are hoping to disseminate it.

    Plaid Safety

While we "only" have the 21 LR S we do have the yolk, of course, and I have to say it's been a real steep learning curve. I can't tell you how many times I turned on the windshield wipers while going for the cruise control or had to search with my eyes and finger tips for the correct turn...

2021 Plaid was DOA this morning...

And I thought we had a nasty bit of bad luck when we had a flat tire on the way home from picking up our new S in September. And then we found out the tire couldn't be safely repaired and wasn't covered under the manufacturer's warranty. $400.00 for a new tire to replace one with under 110 miles...

Extremely Disappointed With Model S Range When Driving on the Highway at 35F

Tough to do when there are only 2 out of the way, poorly spaced chargers anywhere near your 325 mile round trip. Travelling through Amish areas in Ohio is a whole lot different from driving in less rural places where many of the residents don't rely on horses and bicycles for transportation. But...

Extremely Disappointed With Model S Range When Driving on the Highway at 35F

Nasty how I never saw the word "fantasy" in the estimate. Next winter road trip we'll just have to wear our winter weight coveralls. Charged at home to 99%. Stopped at the only supercharger anywhere close to our trip at 106 miles and 49% of battery usage, then did the other 219 miles after...

Extremely Disappointed With Model S Range When Driving on the Highway at 35F

Jill and I went for our first long trip in our 2021 Model S LR yesterday. The trip covered 325 miles of roads with speed limits mostly between 55 and 70 mph. Close to half of that was on 70 mph highways. The car was set to Chill Mode and I have never been stopped for driving at the speeds we...

Model S rear trunk well cover

Sad, very sad! Tesla is not very good at customer relations - trying to be diplomatic. They need to be better communicators, as we all are aware. Seems like, as solid as their cash flow appears, Tesla could take solid steps in that direction quite easily. An easy fix, but this failure is an...

Model S rear trunk well cover

You seem to be saying that the asymmetric tires don't come under the same consideration as the rest of the items you list. Granted our car did come with tires but they are lesser quality tires than those specified and less expensive. Saving a few dollars on a quality performance vehicle doesn't...
  14. B

Model S rear trunk well cover

The 2021 owner's manual also states that all model Ss should have asymmetric tires. Ours doesn't and the service manager at the Columbus store insists that we have the correct tires with no explanation for the discrepancy. We also do not have a cover for the rear trunk but they did tell us they...

    Tyre Wear

My first thought would be to check the alignment, but what do I know.

2021 Model S with Plaid badge

I've had the same sort of dream but the car's computer and the vin number tell me it's a LR. Arriving at the store to pick it up I could hardly believe my luck, for about 5 seconds and then reality kicked in. The "Plaid" badge is still there and I'll leave it, mostly because I'm afraid of the...

    A WARNING AND A SURPRISE!!!

Easy! Get rid of that big wide door and install 2 single doors. Problem solved. ;) Just guessing that is what your setup is.

Anyone had to replace a refresh tire yet?

Got ya beat! We got a screw in the tread of one tire on the way home from the Tesla store after picking up our new S LR!! Neither my wife nor I could remember having a flat in the last 30 years. And, of course it couldn't be repaired. They had the tire the next day. We went to a local dealer...

2021 Model S with Plaid badge

If in fact this was an error why not just say so instead of offering up this, what seems to be, an obvious lie? In my experience you are correct, Tesla employees know very little beyond what can be found in the owner's manual, but why try to make up for that by making up something which, as far...

2021 Model S with Plaid badge

I suppose I could include a picture of our car but you could still call bs if you chose since, as another poster mentioned, I could have purchased and installed a badge myself. I may be naive but I can't think of a good reason why I would play such a petty and ridiculous game. Please, tell me...

2021 Model S with Plaid badge

To be clear. I did not apply this badge myself. It was on the vehicle when we picked it up at the Tesla store brand new.

2021 Model S with Plaid badge

This is not my choice here! I'm simply stating what happened, but I'm quite certain that most of those people with Plaids are neither ashamed nor concerned regarding what other people think. And this has nothing to do with what kind of life I had growing up! Terribly off topic. I simply want to...

Model S LR - another price increase 5k

Very positive. Since we ordered our 2021 MS LR the price has gone up $15,000 and our trade-in went up $4,000. Kind of cushions the long wait - 1/28 to 9/26. So far, love the car. Lots to learn before I can fully appreciate the computer.

2021 Model S with Plaid badge

To anyone who has recently taken delivery of a 2021 Model S LR, did it come with a Plaid badge on the trunk lid? We picked up our LR on 9/26/21 and it does have the Plaid badge. The people at Tesla Vehicle Support have told me that all Model Ss now come with the Plaid badge but I have trouble...

    A WARNING AND A SURPRISE!!!

Correction. I suppose you would have to have a very deep garage to have the problem I described with the garage door opener. Then again if you triggered the opener and then had to delay entering the garage you might run in to the same problem. Computers are such fun.

Homelink triggered halfway inside the garage

Interesting... Each time we have returned home the garage door has opened just fine but it just stays open after we pull in. I have thought that was because the car wasn't far enough away and that is just fine because we leave the door open for the dogs and cats in the summer anyway. When we're...

    A WARNING AND A SURPRISE!!!

I find the learning curve very steep and challenging but hope that experience will make a lot of the knowledge helpful and second nature. This feature is definitely better than 2 separate remotes rattling around the center console or attached to the visor, for me.
  28. B

    A WARNING AND A SURPRISE!!!

Be careful when using your garage and gate opening feature. Foolish me but I never thought about the computer not knowing whether the gate or garage door was open or closed. Clearly I expect too much. Driving up to an open gate, because another vehicle had just passed through, the gate started...

    Tire Specifications

Oops. I thought that when I mentioned torque in conjunction with horsepower and acceleration one would assume that I meant the torque generated by the electric motors. Beasts

    Tire Specifications

Our tires are Continental Pro Contact RX T1s. The fronts are 255/45 R19 104W M.S. The rears are 285/40 R19 107W M.S. They are rated at Treadwear 400, Traction A and Temperature A. I don't know enough to criticize one manufacturer over another but these ratings sound pretty good to me. I can only...

    Tire Specifications

"Much ado about nothing." ??? Asymmetric tires are built specifically to improve the handling of the vehicle over tires with the same specifications otherwise and their price reflects that difference. I'm confused that you brought up directional tires. Another topic entirely except that they...

    Tire Specifications

In the Model S owner's manual it states that "Model S tires are asymmetric." The tires on our brand new 2021 S are not asymmetric and about all I am told by anyone at Tesla is that either they don't know or "the tires you have are the correct ones for your car" with no explanation for the...

    Torque and Tires

Two questions. Has anyone seen torque figures for the 2021 Model S LR? If so could you let me know what they are. And on the TeslaTap.com website they indicate that the tires on the 21 S and, I believe, the Plaid, are "Advanced" - would anyone know what that means? Thanks, Beasts

    Ground Clearance Concern

It seems like a software change to allow higher clearances over longer distances would make good sense in circumstances such as those described above. I don't see how such a change would cause a significant safety concern as there are many vehicles out there with higher ground clearances as well...

    Ground Clearance Concern

In the 21 Manual the page # is different and the top speed for the high suspension is 35 mph. It would be nice to be able to travel closer to the 55 mph limit posted for those 5 miles. Once I have the car and can work with the computer hopefully I will find another option. Thanks, Beasts

    Model S LR 2021 review from a long-time Model S owner

    Model S LR 2021 review from a long-time Model S owner

After reading many of the responses in this thread I'm not sure how to feel about our new S. This from someone who has never owned or driven a true performance vehicle in his life. Currently we have a Honda Civic and and a Ford E350 Econoline. I'm not sure whether to be incredibly excited or...

    Ground Clearance Concern

We will soon, and finally, be taking delivery of our 2021 Model S LR and I have a concern about the last 5 miles of our drive home. We live out in the country and while our road is well paved we have to drop the passenger side wheels off of the pavement in order to allow oncoming traffic to...
