    [UK] 2021.44.x

Updated to .44.6 this morning and I now have vision based auto park. On a sample size of 1 it seems to work well! It actually shows up under changes for 44.5, even though it wasn’t there when I got 44.5 last week. I had noticed it offering auto park a lot more at home (I park between my wife...

Percentage battery charge is a percentage of what? (2021 MIC M3LR)

As to your root question, you're in luck - the latest version of the mobile app will show the energy added during a charging session. You can also get a historic view of this data with teslamate, teslafi etc. Note that in general there are 3 numbers, which won't all be the same - energy added...

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

That is a hell of a lot of superchargers all within only a few miles of each other, even allowing for how jammed the dartford crossing gets. - lakeside (16v2) - service centre (8) - bluewater (17v2) - Thurrock services (16) Very nearly as much as all the other m25(ish) sites put together!

A view from the other side..

My wife has a leaf. Every single time you turn the car on it asks for to accept the terms of service related to connected services - I dont even know what those services are - you just have to tap ok before you can use the radio / satnav. Clearly some legal team got their way on that one. Never...

Just been pushed 2021.36.5.7, barely a day after I got 2021.36.5.6

    [UK] 2021.36.x

36.5.6 appears to have changed the rendering of the car in the visualisation area. Looks maybe a bit darker/shinier (mine is a MSM)

Home battery energy store & heat pump advice

Even if those low rates ever return, agile wasn’t the best fit for a heat pump, since the heat pump is adding a lot of consumption that’s not easy to shift (unless you particularly want the heating going at 2 in the morning!). It’s not like charging the car where you can just do it the next...

Home battery energy store & heat pump advice

It’s working out for me, with a relatively new (20ish years) home. When my oil boiler died it was about 10k extra to get an air source heat pump instead of other oil boiler, but I’ll get £9k of that back through RHI. It’s been just over a year since I had the heat pump installed, over that...

Home battery energy store & heat pump advice

I have solar panels (7kW, nearly due south) & a heat pump. In the depths of winter on particularly cold / grey days you might only get a few kWh from the panels but the heatpump might draw 50 kWh+ - there’s no way you’ll be self sufficient over the winter months. Even with the maximum number of...

    Minor Accident: Advice please!

Yup, you need to tell your insurance company, even if you don’t intend to make a claim ( Vehicle insurance )

    Minor Accident: Advice please!

Yes it was (frosts, near Milton Keynes). My insurance premiums haven’t gone up although I don’t know if they would have gone down more without it.

    Minor Accident: Advice please!

I made a claim last year after someone scuffed my bumper pulling into the parking space adjacent to me. They immediately admitted liability and were very cooperative, so I can’t enlighten you much in that area. It did still take a good 3 months for all the wheels to turn and for them to tell me...

    UK Charge Point Installer Recommendations

Elecology installed my EVBox Elvi two years ago (also near Ely as it happens). I wouldn’t recommend EVBox but elecology were good. It was a longish cable run and they left everything very tidy - they had to go under a paved path and they put it back nearer than how it was before. They were also...

Real world range in layman's terms

A Better Routeplanner has loads of knobs for estimating the impact of rain, cold etc. For st neots to edingburg it seems to think 2 stops in a range of conditions - the main limiting factor in terms of getting there with one stop is that you'd need supercharger closer to half way, bit that...

Are other OEM's using Tesla Superchargers already in the UK?

FYI the relevant standard is ISO 15118, one of whose features is Plug & charge. The list of supported models (according to the wiki page) is very short: 2021 year Taycan, Lucid Air, Mach-E, 2018 Ampera and VW iD4 due to get it at some point via a software update (and I assume that means the...

    Octopus Tesla and Powerwall

Ah, so what they are saying is that if you have a zappi or something that automatically charges when there is excess solar then that will clash with what they are also trying to do with excess solar. They also caution against automatic immersion heaters, for the same reason. I think in...

    Octopus Tesla and Powerwall

Hmm that bit about not being allowed to use solar for car charging doesn't sound right - I definitely do that when the sun is shining (not that it's done much of that recently).

Aftermarket wireless charge pad? - Model 3 pre facelift

I've been using this cheap vxdas one (£34 at the time, £38 now): https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07SSC9T1K/ since september 2019 with no issues. I've using it with a iphone 8 plus with the standard apple case (aka quite a big chunk of phone)

Hydrogen - Really? (Man maths & research involved)

That final number of 0.16kg CO2/mile, i.e about 100g/km would be very average for a petrol burning car - that's a bit depressing. (albeit I take that to be the worst, grey hydrogen number)

    Tesla PW2 - UK Availability

Mine is not that recent (last December) but I eventually had success with spirit energy after a lot of searching when my original installer left me in the lurch.

Running a car on Electrons vs LPG

If all I wanted to do was save money… I’d just buy a cheaper car. Cheaper per mile costs (and other perks such as no VED, congestion charge exemption etc) are great today for offsetting the higher initial purchase price. As battery etc. costs fall, that will become less important. But (for...

Did they do it themselves or was that contracted out? When they do contract out then you are a bit at the mercy of whether the person/subcontractor covering your area are any good.

Home Charge Points Discussion and Suggestions [megathread]

That was my experience - domestic just isn’t their focus. My charger which had originally delivered the full 7kw was going slower and slower. EV box said it was throttling itself to avoid overheating (and thus in spec) which was pretty ridiculous back in March when it was 5 degrees overnight...

    UK Charge Point Installer Recommendations

I’m between Cambridge and Ely and had a good experience with Elecology. Based in Hitchin but they cover a wide area. I had a quite a long cable run, under a paved path etc & they left it all tidier than it was before. They were also very helpful when the charger stopped charging at its full...

    [Question] Trade-in experience

I don’t think they did much more than ask for the keys and look through the building window to see whether there was a car there. Mine wasn’t a very valuable trade in & it was the penultimate day of the quarter.

    Intelligent Octopus

Is it definitely the unofficial API or could they be doing something more "official" with tesla? Tesla/Octopus co-operate on the tesla energy plan so presumably there is some sort of relationship there.

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

Tesla were already charging 20% vat. There’s (paraphrasing) an exemption for small amounts of electricity + other conditions & some providers had taken the view that a public charge point qualified (since any individual customer probably only receives a small amount of electricity from any...

    Octopus Tesla Energy Plan

Certainly not inline with the behaviour I’ve seen. What things could cause that I don’t know. I found the energy support team pretty responsive when I had an issue
  33. F

    Octopus Tesla Energy Plan

That's odd - I don't have that problem at all. It does like to max out export around those hours but only a small amount comes from the powerwall if the sun is shining (eg right now it solar is producing 3.8 house is consuming 0.4, powerwall discharging at 2.6, export is 6)
  34. F

    Octopus Tesla Energy Plan

The old rate for non ev owners was 11p ( Octopus Energy ) so there's not a huge change to the unit rate (some may even see a cheaper rate). Standing charge is an unwelcome addition though! There doesn't seem to be a separate rate for Tesla vehicle owners anymore - big change there!
  35. F

    Octopus Tesla Energy Plan

I have an air source heat pump & it was pretty great to be on 8p/kWh on some of those cold days in jan/Feb when the house consumed 80-90kWh and only generated 2-3kWh! The heating draws way more in the winter months than the car (my wife has still been commuting daily) & unlike the car you can’t...

    Free charging points?

I've come across a few: - Coop in Chipping norton - National trust Sherringham Park Some of the recently upgraded national trust ones are really good - rather than 1 or two chargers that might randomly be in use, Wimpole has a dozen chargers (7kW but I'm typically there on a long walk for 3-4...

    Powerwall 2 update

East/west setup? Did you have to jump through hoops along the lines of “yes that’s 2 x4kW inverters but it will never hit 8kW unless there’s 2 suns” ?
  38. F

    Powerwall 2 update

With Backup gateway 2, there is a site export limit which is set to whatever the DNO has said you can have. This is separate from whatever capacity limit your powerwall(s) have. 3.6 (per phase I think) kW is the max export you can do and the only requirement is to notifying the DNO after the...

In a parallel universe where there we only had EV’s, what would an ICE review look like?

“Intriguing idea, but how will they finance the construction of enough petrol stations?” Pricing gap probably wouldn’t be what it is today - presumably petrol wouldn’t have the 60p ish fuel duty & full VAT
  40. F

    Slower home charging

Well it took quite a bit of insisting, intervention by my installer etc. but EVBox have agreed to replace it - I hope my second lasts longer than yours!

UK Electricity Generation Carbon Intensity Footprint

Yes - new builds - sorry if that wasn’t clear & I got mixed up about the 2023 vs 2025 date - it was announced but then hastily unannounced heat pumps are expensive refits - I had one installed recently, but with the subsidies I get back £9000 or so over 10 years so cost neutral if you can take...
  42. F

UK Electricity Generation Carbon Intensity Footprint

There’s a push to move away from fossil fuels for heating too though - gas boiler deadline brought forward from 2025 to 2023 recently, with the main contender for replacement being heat pumps. That’s a lot of extra load that isn’t as easy to move around as charging your car - you probably don’t...
  43. F

    Slower home charging

EVbox are trying to tell me this is within spec, that the max charge rate depends on environmental conditions etc. If it can only handle 60% of the headline figure after 20 minutes on a chilly uk night they've got some pretty big design problems!
  44. F

    Slower home charging

In general the charging is overnight, so any other demand shouldn’t be high - if I compare with the smart meter data what the car is consuming is the vast majority of the house’s total draw - well under 1kW of other stuff (and we have a 100A supply) On the most recent charge, teslamate shows it...
  45. F

    Slower home charging

I’ve noticed that my model 3 charges slower at home than it used to. Unfortunately I’ve only recently started using Teslamate and only recently got a smart meter so it’s all rather anecdotal, but... I’m pretty sure it used to ramp up pretty quickly to 32A (ie just over 7kw) or so and stay there...

Nooo! Need to make a claim for accident damage. Tesla Body shop or Churchill's own

I also used frosts when I had a bit of bumper damage last year. Churchill were happy for me to use them.

UK Only - Tesla Energy Plan/Octopus Energy

Mine was like that at first but it has been a lot more variable in its behaviour as of late. It commonly discharges for a bit around 7-8am for example and today it only charged to about 50% overnight (and today ended being pretty sunny) the overnight charging used to always being a single block...

UK Only - Tesla Energy Plan/Octopus Energy

They’re billed separately - I have one section on the bill for imports and one for exports. On the imports section the unit price is 7.62p, so that once they add VAT it is 8p per kWh. On the exports there is no VAT, so it’s just 8p per kWh
  49. F

    Alternative to Tesla Schuko Adapter?

Maybe toughleads (Delivery & Refunds)? They do say they’ll allow collection by prior arrangement and that they’ll try and handle tight deadlines if possible. I have an extension lead from them that is very solid.
  50. F

UK Only - Tesla Energy Plan/Octopus Energy

Well, still covered by the warranty. In some sense, if this price plan stays available on roughly the same terms (ie same price for imports & exports) it doesn't really matter.
