Tesla App Utility plan configuration: Multiple Peaks, Buy/Sell Behavior, etc

I've been seeing the same behavior as you and have been trying without success to achieve the same behavior you're seeking, including trying some of the tweaks @Redhill_qik suggested. additionally, there's a message in the app saying Powerwall will not cycle this season because the the...

Tesla app version 4.0.0 has app re design for both car and energy

That’s what i thought. What I’m not clear on yet is whether this incorrect behavior is particular to my system or whether others are seeing it as well…

Tesla app version 4.0.0 has app re design for both car and energy

I’m never in a situation where I’m at risk of running out of battery prior to end of peak. But I will try playing with the pricing - if I increase the sell price so that it’s significantly higher than the buy price during peak, that should force the system to send solar to the grid rather than...

Tesla app version 4.0.0 has app re design for both car and energy

The grid draw amounts are typically small and brief so I’m unlikely to catch this occurrence but will keep an eye out TBC is described by Tesla as the mode to use to derive the most economic benefit from PWs, so I agree with @miimura that any off peak discharge typically won’t provide any...

Tesla app version 4.0.0 has app re design for both car and energy

the reason i asked is i saw a change in behavior of the new TBC mode a few weeks after its release. when the new TBC mode came out with app version 4 (and balanced mode was eliminated), my PWs behaved as follows: 1) during peak, house was powered exclusively by PW; 2) ALL solar produced during...

Tesla app version 4.0.0 has app re design for both car and energy

Before figuring out the buy/sell values you detailed, were you by any chance seeing solar during peak go to house rather than to grid and/or house drawing from grid in addition to powerwall during peak and/or powerwall discharging in the middle of the night during off peak?

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

Did you opt out permanently? I thought I read participants can opt in to or out of individual events, but I can’t remember for sure

Yes, I’m in the east bay also

Tesla Virtual Power Plant in CA

Is VPP participation limited to those with Tesla solar? I had PWs installed with pre existing 3rd party solar and do not have the VPP option in my app.

    Time based control not working

Spoke with Tesla today. My system is still behaving differently since reconnection compared to prior to disconnect: - house draws from grid during peak; prior to disconnect house was powered exclusively by powerwall - solar during peak is going to the house; prior to disconnect any solar...

how much energy to i actually have?

today my powerwall started at 100% and started discharging after midnight. it reached a low of 87% before it started recharging with solar. it received 5.8 kWh from solar to get it back to 100%, but it only discharged 4.1 kWh. i checked the API when the app said 88% of charge and it showed a...

    Time based control not working

Now 5 days into my “learning period” and it still drew from the grid during peak, and continued discharging the powerwall after peak ended, yesterday. Also, the powerwall discharged for a brief moment today even though weekends are all off peak. Will be interesting to see if functionality...

Haven’t tried yet - maybe tomorrow. I want to see how it behaves during today’s peak period

    Time based control not working

Between the time of the app update 3 or 4 was ago up until my PWs were disconnected last week, I was on TBC and the PWs were only discharging during peak; once peak ended the PWs stopped discharging even if they were well above the reserve, and did not ever discharge outside peak. Since being...

    Time based control not working

Spoke with Tesla and they said everything he’s seeing on his end looks correct and that the system needs to be time based mode for a full 7 days before they can determine whether it’s functioning properly. They also said that Tesla eliminated (unannounced of course) cost savings mode approx 2...

    Time based control not working

Where are the current transformers? Below is a photo after they uninstalled, with disconnected wires. They then reinstalled in the exact same location. Could they have rewired incorrectly leading to the current behavior?

    Time based control not working

yes very odd, I never saw this behavior before. What are the “CTs”?

    Time based control not working

Thanks. I did what you suggested and as soon as I switched back to time based (which was after peak ended), the powerwalls did stop discharging. However the house is now back to powering from a combination of the both the grid and the powerwalls…

    Time based control not working

I have been in time based mode since app V4 came out a few weeks ago. Over the past couple days the house has been drawing power from the grid during the peak period. It’s drawing most of the power from the powerwalls, but some from the grid also. The powerwalls were uninstalled last week for a...

V4 of app drops Balanced/Cost Saving (Advanced Time-Based Control) options. Replaced with Time-Based Control

Got it. So I take it you think there was no benefit from either a financial standpoint or from the standpoint of maximizing the powerwall lifespan of the old “balanced” time based control mode? That was the mode I was previously using and it would start discharging at 5 pm when peak started, and...

V4 of app drops Balanced/Cost Saving (Advanced Time-Based Control) options. Replaced with Time-Based Control

i always thought batteries need to be "exercised" to maximize their lifespans, perhaps not necessarily every single day, but certainly sitting fully charged for long periods is detrimental (i thought). i also know batteries' lifespans are affected by the number of charge-discharge cycles, so...

V4 of app drops Balanced/Cost Saving (Advanced Time-Based Control) options. Replaced with Time-Based Control

i've had the exact same experience - powerwall is discharging ONLY during my peak period (5-8p on weekdays), and is sitting idle fully charged at all other times. seems to me like a significant downgrade in functionality by not having the powerwall also discharge at night down to the reserve limit
