    Spontaneous windshield crack?

BTW, how long is the warranty on my Tesla M3, in case they will cover it. I bought it new in Oct of 2018. I guess I should bring it down to the shop here in Reno. I heard somewhere that this is a common problem with the 2018 M3, makes me think it is a design flaw. -Don- Reno, NV

A FLAT should NOT be this difficult!

It takes up some room, but it's not that big of a deal. You can still put stuff on top of the wheel. IIRC, it's not a full size wheel. But I think it is this one that I have. I don't have the wheel cover with mine, -Don- Reno, NV

    Spontaneous windshield crack?

My 2018 Tesla M3 now has a "L" shaped crack a couple of feet long in the very center of the windshield. Seems to be an issue with 2018 Tesla M3's. -Don- Reno, NV

A FLAT should NOT be this difficult!

But I never bought one, so you cannot blame me for it becoming the norm these days. -Don- Reno, NV

A FLAT should NOT be this difficult!

IMAO, when a car doesn't include the stuff to replace one wheel, it's their fault. Or perhaps it is our fault because over the years the buyers didn't even notice they no longer had spares. We let it happen. BTW, I bought this the same week I got my Tesla M3. -Don- Reno, NV

Is regen same across all models?

There in GA, there will be no benefit that I am aware of, other than more power and having a backup motor. Here in Reno, it snows and the dual motor is much like 4WD. As long as the snow isn't too deep. Teslas have very little ground clearance. -Don- Reno, NV

Is regen same across all models?

I disagree on both. I love to be able to control the regen by my left hand. And I still have the choice to use both it and the brake pedal. -Don- Auburn, CA

Is regen same across all models?

My 2018 Tesla was my first EV car. I had two Zero motorcycles before then. If today, the Tesla regen could be a deal breaker for me too, after seeing the way they did it in my 2022 Chevy Bolt. But I wonder why they would remove it in the first place, just select what you like makes more...

Is regen same across all models?

I don't know about the Cadillac and how it compares to the 2022 Chevy Bolt. I don't understand how anybody can prefer Tesla's method of too much regen at default and none added with the brake pedal and no real control over it while driving. With the Bolt I decide how much regen I want every...

Is regen same across all models?

That becomes too touchy for me. But I realize it can be done, just set everything to max and don't use max. I prefer to be able to let go and just coast at a reasonable speed, as does my Chevy Bolt. But when I want more regen, I can adjust it as I am slowing down with the regen on the steering...

An issue with the 16KW Destination stns with Tesla-Tap

Bump! In case anybody new here has a guess to what causes the above issue. What do the 16KW Tesla Destination Charge Stations want to see that none of the others do, within that ten minutes? -Don- Reno, NV
  13. DonTom

Is regen same across all models?

I own a 2018 Tesla M3, AWD, LR and a 2022 Chevy Bolt (I think I bought the last Bolt in the USA before the big recall, just a few hours later). Anyway, the way the regen works in the Bolt is MUCH better than the Tesla for countless reasons. The Bolt has a lever on the steering wheel to use regen...

    Second Tesla Home Charger Dead

Needs some clarification. Do you mean a Tesla Wall Connector? The charger is inside your vehicle. A Wall Connector is simply an AC supply for the charger inside your vehicle. If you do mean a Tesla Wall Connector, mention the model number. -Don- Reno, NV

An issue with the 16KW Destination stns with Tesla-Tap

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

I heard something about a Tesla FW update (in another forum) that now keeps the DC2DCC always on, so perhaps we no longer have the need for the 9V battery. FWIW, my own experience with shorted cells in L-A batteries is that a shorted cell shows normal while being charged, but the voltage drops...

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

Mine is also a 2018, LR but AWD M3. How do you know it's BS? Seems they can change just about anything with those FW updates. I don't think my contactor ever goes open. In fact, I didn't even realize there was one. Is this contactor built inside the battery as it is with my Zero electric...

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

OIC. I did NOT have the message. I decided to replace the battery anyway with the lithium. But I did get the message that the 12V battery is disconnected when I had it disconnected. Byt that message went way as soon as I connected it back up. When the car is "powered down" by the screen, it...

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

Well, that explains part of it. I watched a you-tube WRT replacing the 12V battery that never mentioned the cable under the rear passenger seat. Doesn't seem to be necessary anyway--as long as we don't short out anything! So it looks like the 12V battery has a trickle charge at all times...

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

Even though I had no issues with my 12V battery, I just replaced it a few minutes ago with a new lithium 12 Volt battery and did a lot of testing, because I was curious about things. There must have been a recent update that changed a lot of things related to the 12V battery. Here is what I...

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

I would guess that it is even safer to leave the old battery connected. Even if it has a shorted cell in the old battery, it most likely won't be a dead short and the voltage will still come up to the voltage of your GB40 when properly connected. But it is somewhat of guesswork, as batteries can...

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

My "jumper device" do you mean a small battery pack in parallel with the dead 12 V battery? Hard to say what will happen when the DC2DC converter is shorted. It depends on the design. Some could just turn off automatically, if they have current limiting, which is not uncommon these days, but I...

MASTER THREAD: Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

I believe the mile spec is for 65 MPH and seems accurate to me at that speed. The best range is at 38 MPH, IIRC, and at that speed, expect better than 400 miles of range, At 78 MPH, I would expect poor range. If you can drive a steady 65 MPH, you should be able to do the 241 miles, if not...

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

I wonder if the Tesla even uses the chassis ground for the 12 volts. I can tell you that my Zero motorcycles uses a floating ground. The bikes doesn't use the frame to complete any electrical circuits. So to even measure any voltages, I use the headlamp low in place of a frame ground. In EV...

I just now used my FOB to unlock my Tesla M3 and used the 9V battery to open the Frunk. Worked perfectly. So then I locked the doors with my FOB and tried the 9V battery again and it did NOT work, just as as it shouldn't, I guess the only way we can do a real test is either wait for the 12V...

I realize we cannot get in the car as the locks are 12 volts. But I was wondering what would happen if we could. Seems to me if we can get the car on, the DC2DC converter will supply the 12 volts. But is the 12V also required to get the car turned on? -Don- Reno

In that case, I will carry the 9V battery AND keep a new spare 12V battery in the Frunk. Just for the fact that the lithium should have a very long shelf life and is lighter and can be stored in any position, that makes it good idea to keep in the frunk if I do not want to replace it before the...

[POLL] ELDA users, what is your experience? (Emergency Lane Departure Avoidance)

Today, I was in a blind spot of a car tailgating another driver on Hwy 99 (CA) for just a few seconds. That car, to my left, tried to change lanes into me, as that driver did not know I was there to his right. My lane to the right was clear and I was able to move over in time. Or did my 2018...

    Installation of 240V outlet

There is no advantage. But some electricians who have a contract with Tesla are not allowed to add a breaker box to another breaker box. That is because Tesla does NOT want the possibility of anything being added to the 2nd breaker box that goes to their Wall Connector. I was told this by...

    Installation of 240V outlet

You pull out a plug inside the box. You can put this plug back in the box upside down and both sides of the 120 VAC (each) will not be passed. Or you can leave the plug outside the box, but left inside upside down inside the box means it is off and the plug will not be lost. -Don- Auburn, CA

I have had three done recently. Two in Reno, NV one here in Auburn, CA. Here in Auburn, I had a Tesla "Wall Connector" installed. That is because most people do not know how to check the waveform. I charge my Zero electric motorcycle from my RV generator when I am boondocked in a place that has no electricity. Some generators are really bad. Mine is very reasonable. Here is my RV Onan 4KW generator's waveform, which is...
