    "Worn out" wheel speed sensors

The sensor wires were in perfect condition, no wear, chafing, or mouse bites. I inspected them carefully before taking the car in, and Redwood Motorsports did too as a double check. It was not the wires, something else was the problem, the wires are carefully routed and secured to keep them from...

    "Worn out" wheel speed sensors

My M3P at 13k miles started throwing multiple error codes whenever I hit a significant bump, or if I brake hard or corner aggressively. I got errors Stability control disabled, Steering assist disabled, Auto pilot disabled, traction control disabled, regenerative braking disabled, ABS disabled...

Light bar upgrade in Aus: suggestions & where have you mounted your switch?

Complying with the regulation that the lights can only be switched on when the high beam is on is going to be tricky. There are no separate high beam lights and the high beam indicator is virtual on the screen. Perhaps a circuit tapped into the headlight driver to detect the drive current or...

Late model long range 3 rwd with phantom front motor?

It is easy to tell. Lay on the floor and look at the back of one front wheel. If there is a driveshaft, then you have a front motor.

Just a note that WD-40 is not a lubricant, it is a solvent with water dispersing (WD, get it?) properties. It has some lubricant properties but evaporates in a day or so. If you need lubrication, use something that doesn't evaporate.

My stomping grounds include Page Mill Road, Steven's Canyon, Tunitas Creek, Kings Mountain, and highways 9, 35, and 84. My driveway is off highway 84 near La Honda. It's a great region for suspension development.

Vendor Model 3 Öhlins DFV Coilovers - Engineered by Redwood Motorsports ™

I got mine installed last week and they are brilliant. I took some of my favorite twisties on the way home, the car is well behaved through the bumpy corners, passes my speed bump test, and pulled 1.3 g's in a high speed sweeper on the factory tires. It is a little stiffer but nothing...

Sway Bars, End Links, and Rear Control Arms Installation & Impression

The preload I am referring to is of the bushings side to side to eliminate the end play which may be the source of the noises I hear.

Sway Bars, End Links, and Rear Control Arms Installation & Impression

Mine makes clunking noises too and I have been obsessed with figuring it out. I thought I might have damaged an end link so replaced both fronts, no help. My installation had significant end play and I was going to fabricate a spacer but found the bushing brackets have enough slop that I could...

2020.12.5.6: Traffic Light & Stop Sign Control

The car motion with multiple camera frames is the same as multiple cameras. It knows the location of successive frame captures quite accurately which allows 3D reconstruction. It does assume that the stop sign doesn't move.

2020.12.5.6: Traffic Light & Stop Sign Control

Interesting experience here - Caltrans put up a new caution sign with a flashing light near my house for some construction. The first time I passed it, nothing happened. Anybody tried BC Racing BR Series Coilovers?

I had BC Racing RM series coilovers on my Mazdaspeed 3. They were not bad though not as good as the ones from mazdaspeed racing. I had those and they were good but self destructed and could not be repaired. The BC needed some maintenance, and I needed to replace a few things but parts were...

That's yellow on black. CA DMV is now doing yellow on black reflectorized, and plate wrap emulates that.

    Left vs Right Rims

The.early roadster had staggered dual pattern wheels. They stopped making them after about a year, too expensive. Also, you can't rotate the tires.

    California Front License Plate

I was up for a plate wrap but the company said that they can't do it for me. I have California yellow on blue plates, the seventh car for them. It may be because they are not retro-reflective.

Adjusting the spring perch adjusts the spring preload. Adjusting the body length adjusts the ride height. New 2020 M3 Performance on the way...with open questions

If the 12 volt battery is flat you can open the frunk by applying 12 volts to two wires hidden behind the front tow hook port. It's in the owners manual. But it doesn't work if the battery is good so security isn't bad. I have the Modern Spare kit for my Performance. It saved my butt when I...

    Model 3 rim protection

I got a set of Rim Ringz. Run away, they are horrible! The install is literally painful, and they don't sit tight against the tire even if you manage to get them tight against the rim. Then I touched another curb (dammit!) and the ring exploded into pieces. Useless. I have been practicing my...

Today I did a test drive with my newly installed Unplugged swaybars. On the G meter I was pulling 1.1 Gs in the corners. This was on the factory Michlins. The G meter looks close to maxing out, I am wondering if it has an auto range function, I can see improving on these numbers with proper...

Should I be concerned about bottom scraping?

I had to repair a bottom scrape result yesterday. I needed to remove the front undertray for anti roll bar replacement. I found a scrape that was just over a bolt holding the cover. GPS lags after leaving underground car park

When you are in an underground garage, the car cannot see the GPS satellites. When you re-emerge, it has to find them again. It takes a bit of time to do. That is just how it works, nothing to report.

How does traction and stability control cope with modified suspension?

The traction and stability control of my previous car, a 300+ hp Mazdaspeed 3, was really confused by the lowered coilovers, big ARBs, and sticky tires. The calibration expected a certain behavior and had no adaptability. It pulled power when I needed it and did really weird things with the...

Model 3 has no spare tire

I would never use any scissor jack to lift more than one tire barely off the ground. It's for emergency tire changes, nothing else. 2000 pounds working limit is OK, it won't be lifting anything like half the car's weight.
