Does FSD Beta use the steering wheel or the interior camera to know if youre paying attention?

In the Model 3, the interior camera is above the rearview mirror. You have to look close to see it. It isn't really looking at your eyeballs. It is using your body language and head position to determine if you are paying attention. It is another neural net running in the car.

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

True, but driving did evolve from our eyes (and more broadly, our senses). The layout and markings for roads have evolved to be readily seen and evaluated by our senses (primarily eyes, but also hearing). As has been said many times here before, if you were going to design a road system for...

Does Tesla have a big math problem?

It can be a planner issue because if the perception module can't accurately gauge speed and distance of the traffic in order to make an unprotected left, then the planner should be smart enough to abandon the left turn plan, and tell the car to turn right and then make the next available u-turn...

    FPL Advertisement about EV charging

I read “9 pm to 12 pm” as “9 pm to noon,” not “9 pm to midnight.” Peak electric usage in the summer is in the afternoon and evening, so I think you have 15 hours off-peak, not 3.

Well that is certainly encouraging. I’m with you on wanting the details of the charger.

    FPL Advertisement about EV charging

Yeah, I'm always suspicious of FPL and their "deals." I have yet to see one that is mutually beneficial to both the customer and FPL. If the monthly fee is only for the box, then you are paying a minimum of $31*120 = $3,720 for their box over 10 years, plus the cost of electricity to charge...

    FPL Advertisement about EV charging

That’s an interesting take. Reading it that way would lead me to believe one would be paying a monthly fee for the box, plus some undisclosed amount for the electricity actually used. They sure don’t market it that way, but if that is the case than it is less attractive than I first thought...

    FPL Advertisement about EV charging

Yeah, I read that too. I was trying to decide if all electricity going into the house was at a reduced rate (a true off-peak plan) or if they were averaging your $31/month (or $38/month) in with the rest of your electric usage which would mathematically be a "decreased rate". Or I'm reading too...

    FPL Advertisement about EV charging

Based on @TripleA83's message, I went and looked at FPL's website for this program. There is quite a bit of new information up there, including a FAQ. The pricing that @TripleA83 posted is correct. It's $38/month if FPL installs the Level 2 charger in your garage, and $31/month if you install...

Yes, they do. But by all accounts it is difficult to get set up and not really a great plan (I am not on it, BTW). More info in this thread: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/florida-fpl-time-of-use-rate.245654/#post-6088026

    FPL Advertisement about EV charging

Yep, same e-mail I got. I was also thinking that the FPL L2 charger is probably going to be capped at 32 amps. My Tesla charger is running at 48 amps right now. I can probably get by at 32 amps, but it's going to have to be a good deal for me to remove my existing infrastructure and make the...

Will Car Automation Disrupt the Personal Mobility market?...

Perhaps. But it might be a 3 hour wait for that car as it comes to you after dropping off the previous fare. Even if there are robotaxis is rural parts of the country, there won't be many there. To have enough available for immediate pickup would mean having a fleet large enough where many are...

    Autonomous Car Progress

It's an analogy, not a comparison. The point is that you are a better human driver once you have been to a location, and an even better human driver if you have driven a route many times. HD maps for autonomous cars are like having all that knowledge "pre-loaded" without first having to drive...

Which scenario below are you a more confident driver? 1) On a road in a city in which you have never driven or seen before. 2) On your daily commute. I would guess that most people would answer scenario 2. People are more confident on roads which they have driven many times before. You know...

You're right, I mis-heard it. :) My main question though, is there going to be an interface for a Tesla. The example wall connector they show appears to be J1772 connector, so an adapter is necessary. I'm also curious on costs, benefits, etc. since this is the first I've heard of this plan...

Tesla says there are 60,000 FSD Beta testers now

Not much better, I'm afraid. On my short 5 mile non-highway commute, FSD Beta regularly fails at the flashing light in front of the fire station, the school zone, the roundabout, and the four-way stop. That doesn't even count the fact that it can't pull into the parking lot at work, or pull...

Tesla says there are 60,000 FSD Beta testers now

I can't even get out of my neighborhood without a disengagement (maybe 1 mile, probably less). I have a T intersection that the car has yet to complete properly. It comes to a stop (properly), and then creeps out into the intersection to see if it is safe to go. By the time it determines it is...

Dr. Mary (Missy) Louise Cummings should be opposed for NOT really being expert on FSD for cars

So what happens if autonomous driving comes down to using expensive sensors or not being able to achieve full autonomy? Right now we are assuming that given enough time, vision can be made to work. But what if that turns out to not be possible?

    First FSD Beta accident?

I have had to take over control from FSD Beta, only to have the Lane Departure take control, forcing me to wrest control from the car once again. Would it be OK to not turn this into another Safety Score thread? Thanks. :) My opinion on the visualization is that it accurately portrays what the car is seeing. Hertz buying 100,000 Teslas

Wiki MASTER THREAD: Actual FSD Beta downloads and experiences

I agree with your thoughts. At one time I thought there might be a newer, better build out there that is used internally at Tesla. Remember that at 30 days, you start dropping daily entries in the calculations. That could be as early as next week, depending on when you pushed the button. Safety Score

FCW is reported as FCW per 1000 miles. If you get one FCW and only drive 10 miles, then your FCW score is reported as 100 because 1x1000/10=100. To reduce your daily score of FCW you need more miles driven that day without incurring any additional FCW. That will make the denominator bigger...
