Effect of adding FSD later (Insurance, etc)

Hi, @NamaDenki , Why would the insurance company "invalidate" your policy by adding a software add-on later? In my opinion, you don't have to worry about it, as it doesn't change the type-approval code (Keishiki in Japanese). They don't even notice. As @glide said, you need to tell the...

    Anybody order Tesla X Plaid?

@mrkool1, I ordered one in January 2021. Recently, when I had a chance to talk to a Tesla employee, she mentioned that Plaid X would become available in 2024 at the earliest. That is of course IF Tesla decides to sell one in 2024...

    2022.12.3.3 Release Notes

Hi, @itmightgetloud; I think the version distributed in May in Japan was 2022.12.3.2. Is your version 2022.12.3.3? If it's 2022.12.3.3, you may be the first person to receive it! Tesla included the Navigation Routes update originally in 2022.12.3.2, and I have that update. On the day of the...

Long Term Parking Lot in Tokyo

Near Haneda, long-term parking is tough to find. I don't know, but if you're OK with central Tokyo, you could find non-timed parking lots. They usually charge a fee per day, and you can reserve the spot in advance. https://www.akippa.com/kanto/tokyo/

    No EDD. Is this normal?

Among Tesla's countries, Japan is RHD and has the lowest EV penetration. That might be why the delivery date is not displayed for a long time. I have waited for Model 3 for three and a half years.

12v battery dead - need roadside assistance?

@itmightgetloud, welcome to the forum! Tam wrote a good summary of what you should have done before leaving, but first, you need to open the frunk. If you hear the noise when you connect 12V power, 12V is low but still alive, and since you locked the car, it doesn't allow you to open the frunk...

    Missing parking information

@nishinari, congratulations on your new car order! Parking is mandatory for the registration, but it is required at the final delivery steps, so I assume it's unnecessary. Again, I would suggest you contact your delivery specialist via email. Here're the steps you (or the Tesla) need to take...

Buying a Tesla in Japan - what they don’t explain well or at all

Welcome to the forum! 100k is indeed the new car registration fee for the shaken, but in fact, Model 3s are homologated in Japan, so it's just Tesla's administration costs. However, note that you need to go to DMV to register the vehicle by yourself in most other countries. In Japan, when you...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I completely agree that V2G for distributed grid storage doesn't make sense for consumers. However, I still think VTG has some value proposition for the consumers, long term, in emergency backup and "use solar at night" use case. These VTG cases are very similar to Power Wall use cases. Some...

It seems Nissan Ariya chose the same type of motor - with brushes, no permanent magnets. I learned somewhere that at low speed, PM motor gives higher efficiency, but at highway speed, AC induction motor has better efficiency. This brushed motor seems to have the best of both worlds.

    Christmas Update - Model S 2017

Model 3 insurance and general maintenance in Japan

It depends on the type of insurance you get. I can try calculating it for you - New contract? If not, what was your class? 1 to 20, class 20 giving you a 60% discount on the premium. New contract is class 6. Vehicle damage insurance? Many people only insure for injuries and the other party's...

Tesla charged 4259 JPY for parts (USD 42) and 15000 JPY ($150) for labor, so they finally charged 21262 JPY ($212). Mine is RHD, so the part number seems to be slightly different...

106k USD for the LR, 136k USD for the Plaid. I think other Mercedes / BMW / Audis are more expensive, as Japanese dealers have very high costs with white glove services. Yes. My mother says Camry is a prestigious car... And that 1 inch is crucial. Tough question. IMHO joint ventures do not work, because it slows down the business.
