CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

That's why I adjust the charge rate from the Tesla app to match my solar excess once my PWs are full. When I need to charge, I'd rather have excess PV go to the vehicle instead of the grid!

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

Still no export option for me even after going through the dance. That's OK for now as I export more than enough. I'm using Grid charging right now as there was very little solar today in SoCal. Wanted to get my PWs back up to at least 80% before 4-9pm max SCE rate kicks in. With Grid...

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

I just got 22.18 FW ... I wonder what new "features" or "limitations" were added to this FW!?!?!

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

I just received the SCE survey as well ... this is complete BS if it ends up going through. I gave a scathing review of the letter and feedback that NEM3 is a terrible idea ... but SCE (and other electric companies) are the ONLY ones that benefit.

Max rebate from SCE at true-up?

I believe this is the case. Completely agree! As it gets closer to True-Up, I should put my place on PlugShare! But it does suck that NBCs are applied to that banked power at just about the same rate! I’ll probably just stop charging at work so I can eat into my credits. I’ll be getting more...

Max rebate from SCE at true-up?

I am in month 10 of my first year with SCE. On my latest bill I see the following: Additional information regarding your Net Consumption/Generation: · Your year-to-date energy charges total as of previous month: -$35.51 · Your current month energy charge total: -$126.01 · Your year-to-date...

    22.1.2 Update

That has happened to me multiple times. My system takes updates essentially mid day! I don't know why they don't update at night. So far, so good with 22.9.1 for me. Previous problem has gone away!

    22.1.2 Update

There was no log, but when it started happening, I was sent a notification by Tesla. But worth bringing it up with Tesla.

    22.1.2 Update

Is your inverter outdoors in direct sunlight? I had a problem right after install where the coolant level in the inverter was low (as shipped) and caused my system to have dips in the heat of the day. The dips were for around 10 min or so at a time until the system cooled down and recovered...

    Screen Yellowed, Again?

I brought mine in for a UV treatment and they ended up replacing the screen. It was already replaced previously the first time the border yellowing happened a couple of years ago. If your vehicle is still under warranty push for a repair or replacement!

Tesla: we need more control over our PowerWalls

Yes. Buy a Hubitat, follow the instructions to install the powerwal manager and your good to go. You can then start getting into smart lighting and other home automation!

    Small bugs following firmware update?

Great! So 2 people are proven to be not crazy! Still P's me off that Tesla Chat was dismissing when I reported, but evidently it was a REAL problem!!!

Tesla: we need more control over our PowerWalls

I just started automating my Powerwall/Grid behavior using my Hubitat and Powerwall Manager. Works great, but it does require you to already have a Hubitat device that is used by many for home automation! https://hubitat.com...

    22.1.2 Update

After several days, the low level grid power drain issue seems to be gone with 22.9.1. I guess I wasn't crazy after all and new FW had to be released to address. I really wish Tesla would go back to publishing release notes!!

charging model 3 in self powered mode without draining powerwalls?

If you aren’t home during the day or have the time or patience to manage, I’d say that’s the best option. I try to avoid paying SCE any NBCs as much as I can!! It’s not a lot, it’s just principle! Lol!
  19. T

charging model 3 in self powered mode without draining powerwalls?

This is the way unfortunately. When I do need to charge from home, I play the same game. Luckily you can adjust the charge rate of the vehicle on the fly from the app. Tesla has ALL THE DATA THEY NEED to do this automatically! It’s a PITA that this needs to be done manually. Because I’m not...

    22.1.2 Update

@slcasner ... Mine just updated to 22.9.1 ... I'll have to see if anything changed post update.
  21. T

    22.1.2 Update

Yep ... exactly my scenario. I have resorted to going off grid when I'm not exporting power after my batteries are full. A complete PITA! But Tesla support thinks its no-big-whoop! I guess will have to see what the next FW holds. Prior to 22.9, I never saw ANY daily consumption unless I...
  22. T

Did you request utility permission before installing L2 charger?

That’s pretty BS. I’d say plug it in, you let it charge, and if the transformer blows, they will replace it much quicker than in a year. They are not motivated to replace the transformer until there is a failure.
  23. T

    22.1.2 Update

I'm at 22.9, and that FW caused a constant small pull from the grid totaling about 1.1kWH/day! Rebooting/resetting the system did not resolve and was dismissed as "no big deal" by Tesla Support Chat. I have now resorted to use an automation in Hubitat to go off grid when I am not exporting...

Update Caused Powerwalls to Go Offline?

I first thought it was some sort of rounding error on the data side from Tesla, but it does show up in my actual hourly data on the SCE side (where it matters most). I do see a slight hour-by-hour pull from the grid ever since the FW update.
  25. T

Update Caused Powerwalls to Go Offline?

INTERESTING you mention this. I have an automation in Hubitat using Powerwall manager to switch to TOU at 4PM then back to self powered at 8PM (no PV at that time anyway) so I can export all solar to the grid to get max credits (arbitrage). Starting at the same time, during TOU export (which...

    Small bugs following firmware update?

I'm getting a constant low level pull from the grid. Tesla support doesn't seem to think its a big deal! I should have no grid usage at this point. Since FW update, my total energy sources utilize 4-5% from grid on a daily basis, used to be 0%. I've rebooted, and reset everything to no...
  27. T

Update Caused Powerwalls to Go Offline?

Well I tried simulating an hour+ outage using the go off grid option in the app, and by manually flipping my main breaker. I also did a 10 second reset of the gateway. Nothing helps ... I'm still seeing a low level pull from the grid. And seeing as it is "only" 4-5% of my daily usage, Tesla...
  28. T

Update Caused Powerwalls to Go Offline?

Thanks ... I can try that as well to see if it "resolves" on its own. I can also try the go off grid option in the app as well. Pretty frustrating as Chat support was dismissing ... the app shows 4-5% grid use a day since the FW update and prior to this it was 0% as my PV+PW meets all my needs...
  29. T

Update Caused Powerwalls to Go Offline?

A reboot didn't resolve. I chatted with a support rep, they hadn't heard of the issue (and tried to dismiss). It was escalated to Tier 2. Who knows how long it will take to get resolved. I'm now using 4-5% of power unnecessarily from the grid per the Impact section of the app!!!! GRRRRRRR
  30. T

Update Caused Powerwalls to Go Offline?

Thanks. Bummer. I haven’t rebooted yet, will try Wednesday when I’m working from home next. I submitted a service request in the app, may also try calling customer support as well if it does not resolve.
  31. T

Update Caused Powerwalls to Go Offline?

Yes ... was thinking of doing that as well. Did you power off PWs, Inverter and Gateway?
  32. T

Update Caused Powerwalls to Go Offline?

Yes, it looks like a non-issue until you check the data on the Utility side. For me the pulses were very rare (I keep the local web page up on my PC while I'm working) and would only very ocassionlly see the blip in both directions. Now, I see almost a constant pull from the grid albeit very...
  33. T

Update Caused Powerwalls to Go Offline?

Yes, that happened before, but with the new FW, there is an aggregate .06kWH per hour being pulled from the grid based on the data from SCE (which is the data that actually matters for billing). Prior to the last update, I would see an occasional 0.01kWH for a given hour on the SCE data, but...
  34. T

Update Caused Powerwalls to Go Offline?

Since the FW update, I see pretty much a consistent .06kWH pull from the grid per hour. Previous to the update, I would get a spurious .01kWH pull. Now you may say that .06 isn't a lot, but if you add it up that's 1.44kWH per day totaling an unnecessary pull of 525.6kWH yearly. Everything was...

How do I charge my Model Y using only excess solar power?

Tesla has all the data they need and could certainly control charge rate based on excess production. At least the Tesla app now allows adjustment of charge rate, but this should be an automatic option
  36. T

Update Caused Powerwalls to Go Offline?

With 22.9, I now see a ~1kWH draw from the grid in total for the day. This is both shown in the app and if I check the hourly data on my SCE account. Prior to this update, I would have 0 grid usage. Anyone else seeing this?
  37. T

Anyone Else in SoCal in Storm Watch? 1/20/22

Yup. I got it, but batteries were charging well at the time. I’ll be drained to about 40% by morning, so I’m all good not pulling from the grid.

Woke up to no PV production - Error 36 - DC Arc Fault

Turns out connection from panels to inverter was bad, they replaced all connections and system started right up. Fortunately my inverter didn’t need to be replaced.

Woke up to no PV production - Error 36 - DC Arc Fault

Finally was contacted by service team yesterday. Service appointment on 1-15; this will leave me with more than 2 weeks of no production. And, if it turns out inverter needs to be replaced, then I will have to wait again for service parts to come in. I'll update once I get diagnosis...

Woke up to no PV production - Error 36 - DC Arc Fault

System has Tesla inverter with 2x PW. Performed multiple resets, still no PV production. Call support — shocked that there was someone there on a Sunday. They stated that they could not communicate with the inverter. I logged in locally and do see WiFi connection and error 36 - DC Arc Fault...

Max PowerWall Charge when below Backup Reserve

Thanks. My current consumption results in the battery running out at about 2AM or so With reserve set very low (5%) So I’m at full battery use durin most expensive TOU period. My question was around max charge rate limitation on 3.3kW while charging when battery is less than reserve. What’s...

Max PowerWall Charge when below Backup Reserve

Now that I'm getting less charge from PV as the days shorten, I find that I'm running out of Battery in the middle of the night and the house is switching to grid. During the day, by the time PV stops producing I'm at approximately 50% of battery SOC. I'm on TOU4-9PM SCE plan and in winter the...

Issue with Go Off Grid Function

I get an error when PW is full or charging and solar production is high, warns me that if I go off grid, I may have a brief loss in power. Now, I've seen a brief power loss issue as well if I manually flip the main breaker in the same condition. Power in the house will glitch just long enough...
