Deep Blue Metallic Model Y Picture Thread

Before I bought mine last year I looked at so many Tesla car pictures I probably broke the Internet. The white looks awesome in pictures and in person. But once inside the car I found it too bright. Didn't help that my test drives were on a sunny day. The brightness almost induced tension...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

You probably would be better off with a lower resolution screen. CarPlay doesn't need all the pixels. The project I'm following uses two Pis and streams the display to the Tesla over the air. I suppose you might be able to use some of his ideas and connect a Pi directly to your screen.

Make it a requirement. You have to pay $10 a month to get satellite maps. Why not make that the fee to get CarPlay. I'd pay that in a heartbeat.

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

If Tesla would just open up to Apple and Android then more people would get what they want. For you it's Apple Music and Sirius XM. For me it's Audible. For others its Waze. The Apple and Android ecosystems are so robust and expansive and probably have 10x the energy going into them that any...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

Yeah, after today's announcement any tiny glimmer of hope that CarPlay would ever be officially supported by Tesla was destroyed today. Video link starts at CarPlay information that is coming in the future.

That's correct, two Raspberry Pis although the developer stated that he hopes to get it down to one in the future. You also need to provide a data connection with a USB-LTE adapter because the Tesla computer won't stay connected to it if there's no Internet. On a Twitter reply to the developer...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

I'm using essentially the same setup, except I haven't tried #2. Regarding #3, that's how I do it. Once you've paused and played again you're set until you leave the car and come back. Note that you can also press the left scroll wheel on the steering wheel which is my preference. I have...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

You guys remember how I'm always talking about how to route audio, send it through the unit or bypass it and the pros and cons of each. Well I was excited to learn the the Gapinski solution solves this as he uses the Bluetooth audio channel setting in the Carlinkit app. That's really the best...
  13. T

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

I believe this is doable with the new system. One of my previous hacks used the Carlinkit adapter and it's app Autokit had that as a feature, I believe they called it Audio Channel. Might be in a prior post of mine. Because of that I'm slightly optimistic about this solution. As it stands...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

Yep, it definitely requires its own data connection, and I don't think it can use the phone's or the car's. Apparently for Tesla to stay connected to WiFi it has to have working Internet or else it will switch back to the car's cellular data. Raspberry Pi units are in short supply I'm...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

No one knows the future, but I can't imagine that it's highly likely, especially if you're mostly interested in it for CarPlay like I am. I really don't care about the speedometer and other functions, I stay on CarPlay almost all the time. The signals it receives to operate the speedometer...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

Well, damnit! https://twitter.com/mikegapinski Looks like he's about ready to release. Hadn't seen any updates for over a month so I was happy I went with the Hansshow display. Yeah, I'll probably do this too :D

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

Well that is an improvement. One of the dumbest damned things I'd seen in a while. Wonder if they'll update the speed limit icon to look like a US sign. I believe the speed limited in a red circle is used in other localities.

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

I only ran mine that way briefly but don't recall any lag. Hmm, I don't use voice to for navigation instructions personally. But I presume you mean using CarPlay navigation with Apple Maps? I haven't mastered the use of this yet. Not sure if I'm doing it wrong or if it's inconsistent. Which...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

I briefly considered this. Looked at a few videos and read various forum posts. The takeaway for me was a) the steering system of the car is not designed for a yoke, whereas other cars that have them have different gear ratios or something and b) such a modification could affect claims in the...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

I actually reach around the sides of the steering wheel and I think I use my thumbs to operate it. While not ideal it's a trade off like anything else. Previous system I had it sitting on the console, convenient to reach but my eyes were well away from the road. With this system I feel like...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

@PorthosJon First, regarding blocking the vents, etc. This unit is somewhat smaller than the unit the were selling before (and still selling I think). I paid about $425 for mine not $600. I'm not using mine the way Hansshow describes it. I can use it that way, but I'm sticking with my way...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

That's not my video but my first attempt at CarPlay was a similar install. I feel ill thinking about it. That install and others like it use the Carlinkit adapter paired with an Android device. I went through several Android devices - two different Lenovo tablets, a Kindle Fire and two...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

Can't tell completely from browsing the Google Drive link but I'd say it's not. The dates on those files are from around June 2021. It's April 2022 right now. The 9" Linux version has not been out too long. But, what I did learn from your post is there's a forum where people are talking...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

I can confirm now that the Hansshow display's mic is being used for phone calls while the caller is heard through the speakers of the Tesla. There is a significant degradation in sound quality for the caller on the other end using this setup. I think I might have a suitable work-around, will...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

The jury is still out on whether this newer way to connect is better. While the calls can be heard over the Tesla's speakers I believe the mic may be the new display's mic and it doesn't sound as clear to the person on the other end of the call.
  27. T

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

You and I think alike :D I've seriously thought about how to do that, especially before I got the unit. I don't really care about the extra speedometer and other data repeated. I think someone could develop a mount that would attach to the back of the screen mount so that the display would be...

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

OK, tried it out. First let me describe how I was operating this week... My phone would connect wirelessly to CarPlay when I got in the car. I'd pull up a Podcast to play on the CarPlay display. It would play through the unit's speaker. Then I'd press the left scroll wheel to pause and...
  29. T

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

Hmm. I don't know. I've been using it like my previous solutions. I let the CarPlay device handle the interface but divert the phone output over Bluetooth to the Tesla. So you're saying have the Hansshow putting out a Bluetooth signal and have the Tesla play *that* as my audio? I'll look...

Thoughts after test driving Ioniq 5 from a Model 3 LR owner...

I toyed with the idea of switching from my Y to an EV6, but I’d say being in a Kia dealership had a vibe to it that wasn’t my thing.

    2 Model Y or Ioniq 5?

I was paying for Spotify for a few months, but now forget why. I do remember it just spinning occasionally when I tried to play podcasts. I think the fix was to sign out and sign back in. You can’t add a custom podcast URL to Spotify to get a paid podcast I subscribe to.

    2 Model Y or Ioniq 5?

So you read this and still don't get it? I pulled that quote from the linked thread. I've experienced the same frustration as that poster mentions (and bolded the relevant text). It's really frustrating to listen to podcasts when it starts from the beginning even if you're away for 5...

    DIY detailing for Model Y

So today I rinsed the car with the pressure washer, sprayed with the foam canon, rinsed, washed with a wash and rinse bucket using a mitt, then dried. Then I applied this Radiant. Used that because wife gave it to my son and I as a Christmas present, so since I already had it on hand I figured...

Yeah, that's what I figured. When I was talking to a pro about them doing it when new, they said they'd paint correct even on a new car.

    DIY detailing for Model Y

Many of the discussions around here regarding detailing revolve around PPF and professionally applied ceramic coatings, all to the tune of thousands of dollars. What about those of use who don't want to put out that kind of money? And those of us who'd like to do some of those things...

Pic of your Model Y.......RIGHT NOW!

Looks great! What have you done in the way of paint prep, etc. to get that kind of shine? I've had my car for a year and wanted to do ceramic coating or other nice things, but it's super expensive to have done and not sure I can devote 3 days to doing it myself, nor do I have the experience...

    Inflationary Price Increase coming?

One year ago I was feeling angst that I was about to spend $40,990 for a blue MYSR because I was worried there was going to be a revived tax credit and I'd miss out. Glad I didn't wait. Least expensive Model Y is now $23,000 more (of course that's a LR AWD, but even when that was a $10,000...
  42. T

    Inflationary Price Increase coming?

I don't blame you. It's gotten out of hand. The MY LR has gone up nearly $13,000 since this time last year. Here's an interesting development, maybe they're making room for this: https://electrek.co/2022/03/13/tesla-launch-model-y-279-mile-range/

How many Standard Range Model Y were produced?

In another thread they were discussing this article https://www.torquenews.com/1083/toyota-rav4-prime-phev-outsells-every-bev-and-phev-competitor-2021 where the author claims that at 27,000 units the RAV4 Prime outsold everything else, but failed to mention Tesla. Someone commented that the...

    2 Model Y or Ioniq 5?

Do any of the Hyundai or Kia new EVs have wireless CarPlay? I'd take wired CarPlay over the Tesla system any day of the week. Wireless would be even better. I thought I'd adapt to the Tesla system but have been working on CarPlay hacks since soon after getting the car.

MYLR vs Mach-e vs RAV4 Prime

What a load of horse bleep response by the Torque News author. Claiming that the Model Y didn't count as it's a $60,000 to $80,000 vehicle. It might be right now, but we all know the prices increased quite a bit throughout 2021 to get there. My SR Model Y was $40,990 with the blue paint. LR...

MYLR vs Mach-e vs RAV4 Prime

The figure I'm (poorly) remembering was from the beginning of 2021. So they only produced 5,000 of those cars in 2021? Ouch.
  47. T

MYLR vs Mach-e vs RAV4 Prime

Well before there were shortages of vehicles when the RAV4 Prime was first introduced, it was never going to be a high volume vehicle. Only like 20,000 or 50,000 units a year.

CarPlay & Android Auto Hack - Walkthrough

As I'm mentally preparing myself for another project when the new solution is released, I've started using my current solution some more. This time I've thrown in the towel on using it wirelessly. It's so much quicker to just plug the phone in to the unit when I enter the car rather than...
