FSD beta expansion to new beta testers June 2022

I got 2022.12.3.20 on Saturday. I could barely keep a score of 90 in the high density area where I live (SoCal near the coast). Then my wife's car went in the shop for a couple weeks so she had to drive the Tesla, and my score went up to 93. LOL! Now I just need to find some time to try out...

Getting increasingly less miles per charge

...if your car has a carburetor, but gas cars with fuel injectors should not be driven with less than 25% of a tank (because burning the crap sitting on the bottom of your tank clogs it up).

How to deal with phantom braking?

If you have an idea of which object FSD is braking to avoid, I find that it also helps to steer away from it (as much as you can while still keeping in your lane).

    Long-term Storage Outdoors in Summer

Maybe some "flatstoppers" to help prevent flat spots: https://evannex.com/collections/tesla-model-s-accessories/products/flatstoppers-for-all-evs-set-of-four If you decide to leave on AC, 85F is probably cool enough.

All of the rubber window seals are disintegrating on my 2 yr old Model S. Anyone also have this problem?

I have a September 2020 Model S and don't have that problem. Maybe it's (at least partially) related to the environment where you live. I live in San Diego and car is mostly parked in a garage.

Blower motor not working, no air from vents

Sorry if this is too obvious, but make sure that the vents you are expecting air to come out of are selected. I mention this because several times I have cranked up the AC but nothing is blowing out of the dash vents. After going to settings, either the floor vents or the windshield vents are...

Huh? I'm talking about the Seat Heater, not the air heating controls. Also, I'm talking about moving the Right Seat Heater icon from the pop up window to my Favorites bar, not trying to turn on the heater. FWIW, I tried sitting in the passenger seat, but it still didn't show up

I just got the upgrade for 2022.12.3.1. I now have room for 5 apps in the Favorites bar (on 2020 MS vertical screen). Nice, even though it looks like 6 would fit. Front Defroster: Check. Rear Defroster: Check. Left Seat Heater: Check. Right Seat Heater: Missing! What? I guess I'll be waiting...

Losing my mind over the random slowdowns

What version of software do you have? I don't have the latest version yet, but PB is significantly better in 2022.12 for some people: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/phantom-braking-fixed.264916/#post-6647738

2022 Model S - Collision Avoidance and Front Parking Guidance

According to owner's manual the "sensors are activated when driving slower than 5 mph (8 km/h)", so not sure if that's the difference. 🤷‍♂️

My First Tesla and I have questions

They are to improve range. I keep mine off around town (~95% of the time) and only put them on for long distance road trips. I had a NEMA 14-50 installed. Luckily they could put it next to sub-panel, so it was only $400 even with "Tesla Premium" pricing. Works great!

What's your next EV after Tesla?

I love the look of the Macan. If I had to buy a new EV today, the first thing I'd look at is a Model Y with plans of bigger tires and a lift kit :)
  14. redmunds

What's your next EV after Tesla?

All I see now are long wait lists, dealer markups, and prototypes. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it :)

Raven -> Refresh. Worth the upgrade?

It all depends out your priorities. My Raven is a 2020 MS LR+. I prefer the main screen embedded in the dash. The only benefit for a horizontal screen is for when you're not driving, so that's not an issue for me. I love having a steering *wheel* and controls on the stalk. I don't need any more...

    Sentry Mode extended use

I can't think of any measurable wear and tear this would cause, and the benefit of Sentry Mode should easily outweigh any concern. Don't mean to hijack this thread, but I'm curious -- what airport provides an outlet to plug into in their parking lot?

    Tesla App Store Concept

It's smart to be wary about what you download from app stores. But most apps are safe. As a software developer, I would love to be able to write apps to fix some of the annoyances I have. I may even share them with others via an app store.

Solar Panel on Model S - time to reconsider?

The car will have the same drain with or without solar panels, so that is not relevant.

    Balance without rotate?

Good for you if you have a Discount Tire that does that. For everyone else: they don't all do it.
  22. redmunds

2021 refresh just delivered. Am I missing something?

Both front and rear license plate frames should be standard in California. Mine had both on delivery in Sept. 2020.

Only if you purchased the tires from them.

Thoughts on not setting up a Tesla account to keep free supercharging?

There's no reason to use prior owner's account. Accounts are quick and easy to setup. Ownership that cannot be transferred is a major red flag. I wonder if it's a Salvage?
  25. redmunds

Thoughts on not setting up a Tesla account to keep free supercharging?

That sounds like a scam. Make sure that "seller" owns the car. There have been people who have rented Teslas then try to sell them!

2021 Model S LR 1-month Observations and Issues

I absolutely love 1 pedal driving! My understanding is that the car does programmatically apply the brakes a small amount to get the car to a complete stop.
  27. redmunds

    USB Device Malfunction

I don't know what your situation is, but I would consider dropping your car off and letting them have it for a few days. That way, they wouldn't be concerned with resolving issue by the end of the day (because you're waiting in lobby) and could (hopefully) do a deeper analysis.

Has anyone actually used the most recent app button? I can't see how I would ever use it, so would like to trade it in for an additional favorite.

Sorry, I actually like the new UI :)

Did you read the article? Possible Solutions for the New User Interface UI 11?

To me, the simplest solution which keeps software moving forward is to add all of the features mentioned in this thread (seat heaters, defroster, steering wheel heater, etc.) as options to be added to favorite features. Then everyone can decide for themself which are the most important. Would...

Model 3 Performance Stealth lease ending July - struggling to decide on next car

Fair enough. But, taking a car back and reselling has a real cost to it, so I would think they give you a reasonable offer (~45k?) to make their own life easier.

The good, the bad, and the ugly of V11

The issue with the seat heaters and window defog/defrost buttons is that these buttons not only control those features, they also serve as state indicators (e.g. off vs low vs medium vs high) similar to physical controls. This is nice because you can do a quick glance to see if they're on or...

Light Show in 2021 Model S not showing up in Toybox

That's helpful. Are there any voice commands to determine state? Something like "what is drivers seat heater position?".
  39. redmunds

New UI for pre-refreshed model S? Holiday update

The problem with removing the seat heater and window defog/defrost buttons from the primary screen is that these buttons (and maybe others?) serve 2 purposes: 1. Control the feature 2. Indicate state of feature (e.g. on vs off, low vs medium vs high, defog vs defrost) similar to physical...

    2020 P100D vs 2022 Standard Non-Plaid

I have a 2020 MS LR+ (not Performance) and I'm glad I bought when I did. Sure, the 2022 is faster, but it also costs more. The 2020 is plenty fast for me. I haven't driven a 2021, but I don't think I'd like the yoke. This is a daily driver for me, not a track car. I think the worst part is...

    Charging keeps stopping.

If you still have the 120v adapter that (I assume) came with your car, I would try that. Definitely not a long term solution, but may give you some charge in the meantime and also help diagnose the problem.

Extremely Disappointed With Model S Range When Driving on the Highway at 35F

Another solution might be to have a socket in the trunk/frunk where a portable battery pack could be connected for long road trips. System would need to engineered in a way to be safe, and most people would never need it, but seems like enough people could use the to make it an option.

Tesla App reducing charging current by itself?

Is your car charged to the specified amount in the morning? If so, then it doesn't matter what amperage it takes to get there, right? The Tesla app recently added a way to Schedule a Departure time. Is that set? I haven't tried this yet, but I'm wondering if the amperage is getting throttled...
