    Tesla Plaid.... Simply Amazing

There are multiple threads about this in this section. There is one thread which is on page 29 Discussing this. The brakes are horrible. The pedal firmness is horrible even for daily driving. A few hard stops, and they start to fade. And you do not have to go 100 mph to get fade. After 3...

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

This is great information. Carbon ceramics have worse heat dissipation than iron, hence why they are always bigger than iron rotors on the same vehicle. For track use, it need the largest iron rotors that will fit. On a 20" inch wheel that will likely be 400-410mm. A 21" wheel will allow...

Why the Yoke is unsafe for the Track

If you are crossing hand over hand on a road course, then a yoke is not the problem.

Upgrading Brake Pads for Plaid - Racing Brake

This is correct. But a few posts above your comparing the bias ratio to a Porsche GT3 and new Tesla Carbon kit, which both have much larger rear piston areas. So the claim that your large rear rotors results in a much more balanced set up to match the Tesla Carbon and GT3 remains incorrect...
  19. T

Upgrading Brake Pads for Plaid - Racing Brake

The information here is so absurd its not even funny. Brake bias is determined by the master cylinder line pressure, the overall combined piston area per caliper, as well as the mean radius of the rotor. Of these, the combined piston area (front/rear) is going to have the greatest effect. You...

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

They are essentially the same as G Loc, same family. But nobody sells pads the price of CNS, and gives no data about them like Mu/temp. The are many great pad manufacturers that will make pads for you if supply them a template and order enough. At this price, from an unknown brake pad...
  21. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

The picture of the pads on CNS website are taken right of the Racing Brake website. Same picture. The only brake companies that so far have released pads for the Plaid are G-loc and Racing Brake. Both are way cheaper. CNS website also says these are for street and also have a track pad...

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Upgrading Brake Pads for Plaid - Racing Brake

First you offered 390mm FRONT rotors. Then you changed it to 400 mm FRONT rotors. Then you changed it to 410 mm front rotors, With the options of buying front only. Now you have changed it to buying front and rear together only. Above you state that you have different combo kits for people...

Upgrading Brake Pads for Plaid - Racing Brake

Why would this end any debate when you have no testing data? What a manufacturer presents for sale often has no rationale, especially if performance was a goal. There are innumerable examples.
  26. T

    Plaid track mode imminent.

Yes, the stability program is completely different, and much better. Im driving in freezing snow packed roads. Set to 0, and the car rotates and gets loose. Even set to +9 is way less intrusive than regular mode. I havent played enough with it, but it feels like a completely different and...
  27. T

    Plaid track mode imminent.

Its not setting it anywhere near 100% or 0%. Watch the dragtimes video of the Model 3 where he compares all modes. Times are close no matter what, and there is no wheelspin in any setting. This is more about reducing power to one end to get balance as the car has lateral G’s.
  28. T

    Plaid Brake options

These are ZR1 brakes? Do you make the rotor hats and spacers? I have a set of these but Racing Brake refuses to sell their hats and adapter, must buy their ZR1 kit.
  29. T

    Plaid track mode imminent.

They created a "winter" mode preset for the M3P, not sure why they wouldn't for the Plaid.
  30. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Those calipers are so short that I would suspect 410mm rotors would fit on 19s with those calipers. I think going with a caliper under 400mm is the wrong idea. They have made 410mm kits for the GTR and the 992 GT3 gets 410s as well.
  31. T

    Plaid track mode imminent.

They do. Winter setting in track mode is way better.
  32. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Essex Racing is developing an AP Racing RadiCal Caliper Big Brake kit, but have not yet determined the rotor size they will use. They did say that one reason the brakes are so horrible is the factory pads which have no copper in them.
  33. T

    Plaid track mode imminent.

Depends what you are looking for in "Snow" mode. Having now been 4 weeks straight in snow packed roads, this car has the most intrusive stability control of any car I have ever had. I thought the M3P was bad, but this is horrendous. It cranks on the brakes even at painfully slow speeds around...

    Drag Strip Mode (Plaid)

Yes, when it got to 0 celcius, it would take longer than 30 minutes.
  35. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

You are comparing relative similar weight cars that have 1020 hp vs 562hp. The power to weight ratio of the Plaid is double the GTS. The speeds the Plaid can achieve are quite different. That is like comparing the rotors on a Corvette to a Miata.
  36. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

I compared it to cars designed to go on a race track. The BMW i3 is 0.0844, which is higher than all of these and not a car I would want to compare it to. It has 184 hp and regen.
  37. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

I don't know if they downsized them on the 2022's but the 2019 and 2020 had 420mm front and 410mm rear, https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/future-cars/a28915025/porsche-taycan-huge-brakes/
  38. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

One more data point is the Rimac Rivera. It's essentially same weight as the Plaid, but has very aggressive Regen braking of 300 KW, not sure what the Plaid is, but that is 2.5x what a Model 3 Performance does. The Rimac comes with 390mm rotors all around. So to make better comparisons here...
  39. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

No, the Taycan turbo S has 420 mm front and 410 mm rear.
  40. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

None, that I am aware of, have dedicated ducts like the Unplugged prototype kit. Although, in my GT3 and Mclaren, there is airflow from the front fascia into to wheel wells which we don't see on the Plaid. I do not think anyone knows the exact percentages that regen provides. When I...
  41. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Taycan turbo is 87.7%, which is way more than any of the Plaid aftermarket options except for the RB 432mm 6 pot caliper kit.
  42. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

I did more calculations and calculated the rotor surface area across multiple vehicles and compared surface area vs weight of vehicle. The 5 comparisons are 2 Sports cars with the closest acceleration (Mclaren 720S and Porsche 992 Turbo with iron brakes). The other 2 are relatively heavy track...
  43. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Yes, there is a reason that the Porsche and Mclaren owners who track a lot, put the Carbon rotors on a shelf and replace them with Iron discs. They essentially dont wear at all at temps seen on the street, but for track days the temps get so much higher that they may last only 6 to 8 days. I...
  44. T

DIY...Big Brake Kit for Under 2k

Ceramic brakes are not for the track. In the same size, they are worse than irons. Ceramic gives better handling, very low dust, and street durability. They are expensive street brakes with good properties for the street. For the street, start with pads, then cooling, then the Upcoming MPP...
  45. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

I have the racing brake pads, and plan to do the spring mod that MPP posted about. But where I am in Canada, is now -20 Celsius with snow on the road, so not a high priority. Likely within the next 2 weeks.
  46. T

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Agree that the fronts are by far the most important, but disagree that 380mm Carbon rotors are an improvement. The weight savings is for handling, not braking. Carbon actually disipates heat worse than iron. That is why Porsche always increases the size for their Carbon ceramic brakes over...
