Perth 2022 Blue LR Model 3 on Aussiecams

Man… No matter what you are driving, the laws of physics remain in force and have capital penalties. Also, commonsense is a ******* super power.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Pretty sure the FSD local street program is running on cars from well before 2022 in the US. If it were different for Australia then that might be a local regulatory requirement, but I have no idea why.

Ev charging in the next 1-2 years

Yeah, I was wondering how you might be able to roll out slow charging in work parking spots to soak up excess solar (like when the price goes negative) during the day.

Victoria Destination Charging Across Victoria Program

Is it right to say that Evie is making a more aggressive rollout than ChargeFox? Or is it that the ChargeFox network is running under a bunch of different brands who are using their kit and billing system?

What is the state of play in Oz with V2G?

Might come into play for a VPP scheme.

Yes. I think this will be quite handy.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

16.1.2 for me today. Last manually checked for an update a couple of days ago and the car was reporting up to date as of 9th of June, so it might be just a reporting rather than checking bug.

Ev charging in the next 1-2 years

It is an important point. One of the local providers, ChargeFox, is load balancing by having batteries at some of their sites to smooth out power draw. Australian electricity is still a lot cheaper than fuel, so while prices may be high I am still better off even at 60c local per KWh. The point...

Ev charging in the next 1-2 years

I’d add that Tesla Superchargers seem a lot more reliable looking at the PlugShare comments and ratings. I think reliability will be a big shake out for the other networks. The UK seems to have gotten through the poor charging reliability stage, so there may be some things to learn from there.

    Bell Hub EV network

Gotta say the brand Bell Resources carries a lot of baggage. Without in anyway suggesting impropriety, it is a curious choice.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Update problem resolved for me yesterday on 2022.12.3.2, now downloading 2022.12.3.16. It would be good if Tesla also announced the bugs they were squashing as well as more major changes.

A heavily used SR+ - thoughts and stats

It is amazing to me how gentle EVs are on the friction brakes. The thing about the Tesla discs that I find most interesting is that they are quite resistant to surface corrosion as well. My old Audi A3 etron had brakes that frequently squeaked from surface rust that accumulated between me...

Thanks for the extra information about tires is really helpful to me. I don’t drive far enough to get to compare several sets of tires for myself. Do you reckon it’s worth talking to the journo to get it sorted? I understand it might feel a bit confrontational, so I think you should feel...

UK Rapid Charging Network 99% reliability law

I think it is a good idea. Listening to Fully Charged then reliability has been a nasty problem, but much better for the major networks in recent times. I wonder how much it is a combination of the two - reliability of equipment and repairs has improved now to the point where you can enact the...

That site, as noted is very pro EV and renewables - often to the point of the tribalism that infects our politics these days sadly. The journalism from the author is usually a bit thin, mostly I think from an effort to get something to publish as often as possible. I‘d support contacting the...

A heavily used SR+ - thoughts and stats

Wow! Amazing work. I seem to recall one of the Californian hire car companies reporting their long term stats on massively high mileage cars with similar experience. Nothing much seemed to break in the first few 100k km.

Any hope for them going in around the top of the blue mountains? Katoomba and Leura are a bit light on for public charging.

The longest EV charging network in West Australia

Agree, it is all about the states getting back a reliable and significant funding stream. It does circumvent some of the fiscal equalisation, so I expect a big fight over GST allocations at some stage

NSW Tesla Energy Plan VPP Virtual Power Plant

Probably not cheaper for me with my usage pattern on the Powershop EV arrangement for Ausgrid in NSW. Others will have widely different outcomes from their analyses. One thing that was not clear from a quick look at the T&C was whether you might be ina position of having compulsory charging of...

Any safety benefits of Model 3 AWD in Australia under normal driving conditions?

Completely agree. I like having AWD, but the laws of physics still apply, and breaking them can come with capital penalties.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Against the general run of play I’m finding the voice recognition in 22.12.1 much improved. I am able to open submenus in settings now. ie I can say open trip settings or open light settings and have the appropriate setting page open up. I still use discrete speech and a fairly rounded accent -...

    NRMA fast charging network

Ugh. Is it a Tritium problem, or just that we see a lot of Tritium faults because there are so many of them?

    NRMA fast charging network

There is an alternative 50kW charger in Newcastle West, but it can get busy and you probably already knew that, and it is about 10km out of your way. For those really stuck there are 11kW Type 2 chargers at Newcastle Uni which is closer than Newcastle West. BYO cable.

Tesla no longer including mobile charger bundle?

I can certainly see the point. It is similar to having a jack and a spare tire. At some point the rarity of use and available alternatives make it nearly redundant. Nearly. So those with particular use cases and circumstances can get them, but for the most part people can devote the weight and...
