TMC Podcast is streaming live right now. You can watch and particpate in the live chat on YouTube. We are talking about what's next for FSD, Enhanced Autopilot, and much more.
Randy Pobst´s Pikes Peak Run ended with fogged up windows after being fastest in the first section 😣
Imagine that after so much work they put into tuning the car and practicing, soo frustrating.
Strange, drive units for Berlin Ys are coming from Shanghai, so I´d guess they should know how to make them by now... Hope this does not affect other cars made directly in Shanghai.
We discussed a new robot deliverd to Giga Berlin that is used in Austin for structural battery pack Ys above - if the insider info driveteslacanada got is correct, it is quite likely that Berlin is actually already moving in this direction (which I initially thought was unlikely)...
In that article Elon is also quoted with
Could be a general remark (it is always hard to get to volume production) but the way he says it sounds a bit like it is harder than expected to me. Maybe a connection with the 4680 ramp discussion here earlier maybe not..
I remembered that they had some info on this in a quarterly update letter, found it in Q1 2022:
So this plan is not new, but then again the Q4 letter is not even 2 months old either so from this we cannot say it has been a long term plan.
It is the same robot that they use in Austin for 4680 structural pack Ys, not safe to say that they will use it for the same in Berlin right now IMHO. They could have that robot in Berlin already and just duplicating their original line. The Berlin cell factory is still under construction... I...
Was going to argue tabless should improve the charging capapility, but turns out larger cells in general have more of a problem with fast charging and tabless compensates for that for 4680:

New press (or casting??) machine on its way to Giga Berlin:
Does anyone know if we can learn from the weight of 75 metric tons what it actually is? Giga press for Y is said to be 410 tons here, but as it is likely not shipped in one piece... Otherwise we might learn what it is from next...
In Norway we can even differentiate between made in Berlin an made in Shanghai-all Performance Y are from Berlin and named ‚DE-P‘. Only free variable is how the Performance Ys from Berlin are distributed across countries.
Also it seems the Berlin VINs are sequential at the moment but we know...
I have the feeling Elon might want to put all not-so-good news into Q2 which is weaker because of Shanghai shutdown anyway to make it an effective bear trap, before turning the heat on with the Austin/Berlin ramps, stock split and possibly FSD in Q3 or Q4. Not advice, just a guess.
WuWa has discovered a new warehouse near Giga Shanghai, and seems to have some insider info (hope these are not just his guesses and that´s lost in translation..):
If true, typical Tesla: rapidly learn from problems (parts shortage from lockdown).
EDIT: Seems to be shared whith another...
New expansion area at GF Berlin presented (hat tip to Tobi Lindh):
To be used for (new info bold)
Train logistics with areas for cars and storage
Service Center and Delivery Center
Facilities for training and recreation
Kindergarten
Slides with ground map still show two planned factory...
Results from audit (part of permit) for Giga Berlin partly available, everything seems o.k. so far. Article (second page on twitter) also includes which parts of factory are not running yet (no big surprises there though).
Original Article (paywall): Gigafactory Grünheide: Wie werden die...
After watching Chuck Cook´s latest video I was skeptical as FSD beta bailed out and did right turns every single time, even though the version he had was supposedly optimized for unprotected lefts per the release notes. But he still had 10.12.1, and according to this reddit post unprotected...
Berlin ramp
Looked up the numbers for Y performance on teslastats.no, this is the only source where we can identify deliveries of Berlin made Y. First deliveries event in Germany was March 22, first 2 deliveries in Norway were April 13. Starting from there, weekly numbers were:
Week starting...
Poll of high school students has Tesla in 5th place of favorite future employers (between BMW in 4th and Porsche in 6th). This is the first time Tesla has made the list. An earlier poll of college students had Tesla in top 10 but behind German premium car brands. The changes from last year are...
Yeah the 61k includes VAT, should have said that (didn´t because I´m used to dealing only with prices including VAT).
I don´t understand why the VAT part you paid is lost from the car´s value? Imagine I buy the car and pay the VAT and immediately decide to sell it. Someone in the market for a...
Cash price includes the VAT, so revenue is 19% less.
Environmental bonus is not a tax credit, but an actual bonus given to the customer by both Tesla and the federal government - Tesla is supposed to decrease the price by 2500 EUR (but that decrease is already built into the cash payment price...
Tesla emailed me today suggesting trading my 2019 Model 3 for a Y performance from Berlin. I requested a trade in offer just for fun.
2019 LR AWD (pre heatpump etc)
Original price: 61,000 EUR
Offer. 40,000 EUR
Still very happy with my 3, Y is too big for my needs so no need for an upgrade...
Only 86 Y/day current run rate in Berlin so far, according to teslamag‘s own sources (I think they’re reliable). More details in the article (use google translate)
https://teslamag.de/news/exklusiv-deutsche-tesla-fabrik-86-model-y-tag-lokale-antriebsfertigung-juni-48726
Unfortunately not. The registration data sources usually specify the Models, but not if it is performance or not. As Berlin makes Y performance exclusively for Europe while other Y come from Shanghai, that would be the only way to count Berlin output.
Interesting - if this comes to pass this could make things much easier for FSD in Europe as European agencies follow the UNECE rules (unlike US). Unfortunately no source though so take with grain of salt:
EDIT: source claimed to be UK department of transport in private communication:

Surreal how the good news keeps coming while share price keeps dropping..
Panasonic: “We seeing continued strong demand from Tesla, for 2170 batteries, but also for faster development of the 4680.”

Hi, just found this info on V2G code in Tesla App - haven´t been following this too closely, can anyone tell me if this is new and point me to the right place where this has been discussed?
(see the screen shots in the tweet)
Just throwing this into the discussion: US has double the per capita oil consumption as Germany:
https://www.nationmaster.com/country-info/compare/Germany/United-States/Energy/Oil/Consumption
Agree though it is not good getting it from Russia. But US has its own oil, we don´t, which make the...
Breaking: Tesla planning to buy another 100 hectar for freight train stations/logistics extending Giga Berlin area by about 30% - info comes from within administration so quite trustworthy...
