    Battery to charge the battery

Get together with a bunch of EV owners and buy an Ioniq 5 - or import an F-150 lightning. Charge that off base and then being into base and charge from that
  2. M

    Tesla UK T0 Tyre Directive

Shouldn’t be allowed to restrict like that. As long as the tyre is the right size and can support the weight (and rotational energy) of the car that should be all you need

MY tints, no one will do it! East Sussex

That’s what I thought. Is there something different about Teslas? Are they poorly stuck on or positioned differently? Other cars don’t seem to be a problem getting tinted

    Intelligent Octopus Drain

Forgot to turn off the smart charging and haven’t driven the car all week. Teslafi saying I’ve been losing close to 5% a day - was 54% Sunday evening, is 30% now. That seems worse than before when I was noticing some drop but not that much. Annoying

UK 2022 Orders to Delivery General Discussion

Thanks for the update - hope everyone enjoys Snowy! I got mine earlier than you despite spec being the same I think? But honestly I almost think I'd have been willing to wait for the new rear light clusters. The tiny dot that lights up when braking really isn't great

Driving to France and Switzerland - advice needed

oh really? Didn't see that on the list. Better get one in case we pop in - only planning on stopping on the outskirts but for a fiver better safe than sorry

MY tints, no one will do it! East Sussex

because they mentioned sensors and as far as we're aware there aren't any in the sunroof or rear windows or rear screen. Perhaps they meant rear demister/heater wire which migth be sensitive? Not sure how its any different to the 3 though - bigger rear window and bigger sunroof but same sort...

My LE was picked up in Southampton. was moved from bluewater though so I guess allocated there?

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

Trucks seem to jump lane as you get about a 45 degree angle behind them and close up. Further in front I’ve not seen that much movement. Perhaps the cameras have issues with more perpendicular movement especially with flat sided vehicles. Less differential in size to judge distance relative speed?

Driving to France and Switzerland - advice needed

first trip for us and only me driving so we're taking it easy with a stop over in a sexy motorway hotel outside Dijon. In my mind I'm pretending we'll pop into town for a bit but I'll probably be knackered.

If I can remember I'll try and get photos of the headlights in France when I'm over there and compare. I've tried to find ones recently but can't see any. Even Bjorn's tests of the matrix lights didn't make the shape easy to work out

Driving to France and Switzerland - advice needed

ordered mine from tolltickets - 39 euro and 2.50 euro delivery. Thought that was less hassle than buying at the border.

Driving to France and Switzerland - advice needed

I'm going later in July - first time so have been reading up a bit. For what I know so far: - lights don't change automatically, but Tesla say you don't need to adjust them. So who knows? - You'll need separate european breakdown. Also check you may need additional insurance cover. - I ordered...

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

same. I consider them equally good/bad. Just driving down my street there is a pinch point where I have to stay left, and there are parked cars just ahead. Every day it beeps to warn me I'm going to crash - I'm not, but it reacts sooner than I would steer around them.

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

I woudln't use AP in two way traffic at all.
  17. M

The thing I thought I’d like the most about my Model 3 is the thing I like the least

I’m generally ok with it on motorways on flowing traffic. Seems to hold distance fine. But in stop start traffic it does seem to react slowly - then accelerate hard - then brake hard. Don’t know if any of the modes like mad max etc affect that? I do wish it would keep AP on when indicating to...

UK 2022 Orders to Delivery General Discussion

those 30th June afternoon cars are going to be pretty rushed out the door if so. I’d be ready to spend plenty of time looking round them.
  19. M

    Price hike

yes. current PCP is 5.90%. My M3LR ordered in January is 3.99%

also make sure if you get GAP insurance that it covers the higher of invoice or replacement.

UK 2022 Orders to Delivery General Discussion

are you allowed to 'sell your slot' or would you need to take delivery and sell the car? If you can sell your place in the queue it would seem sensible to try and keep hold of it with the recent price hike combined with getting the car sooner than if someone ordered today.
  22. M

    Price hike

we need a graph showing where the big increases came from. SR+ was 39990 in 2021 I thought? or 2020 maybe so thats gone up a lot
  23. M

    Price hike

lucked out twice - bought my SR+ like 1 second before the previous grant was removed, then replaced with a M2LR when it was still £49k (although paid for MSM to get it faster). At this point Tesla are effectively neutralising depreciation for existing owners. Its a not unexpected approach to...

mine was 51% I think but others in Q1 had some significant variance from that.

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

people in crashes get damage all over the place. If you get rear ended it could damage a rear quarter mounted charge point like the EV6 or Tesla. Yes its possible but it seems an odd thing to fixate on. It requiring you to park forwards is a more relevant argument against a front mounted port IMO.
  26. M

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

ICE cars don't have them in the same place. In theory if a whole bunch of BMWs turned up at a petrol station they'd be queuing up not being able to use half the stalls. No perfect solution for capacity
  27. M

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

They are presumably fine with that as they're opening them. I don't see any arrangement of chargers avoiding blocking bays without having much longer cables. The current chargers with their 'designed for tesla' CCS cables force that.
  28. M

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

agree. Tesco etc seem to be some of the most widely available (and free) public chargers around and easy to see in the car park. But you're not allowed normally to stay more than 2 hours, and a normal shopping trip is unlikely to be more than an hour. We need more long-stay parking (overnight...

UK 2022 Orders to Delivery General Discussion

did you check the interest rate was the same as the original application? Think its gone up in the last 90 days
  30. M

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

I'd guess for Tesla at least you're going to park one reverse (closest to the camera), the next one nose in - so the closest car uses the left charger, the next one uses the right. For non-tesla you'd have the same issue as currently wouldn't you? if you have a car with a right-rear port you'd...

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

this all feels like stopgap solutions - eventually everything will move towards charge points at all/most parking spaces, with speeds tuned to the type of location (shopping centre/park and ride/workplace - level 2, short stay/MSA etc - rapids). And using load based smart allocation of capacity...

    Charging times question

teslafi allows you to set a start and stop. Tesla in-car only allows a start or a stop. If you want to explicitly use only eg octopus go hours, teslafi should be more able to do that. It can be done in-car but requires you to set the start time and then calculate/estimate the charge level by...

Has anyone done a trip to Le Mans or Nurburgring in a Tesla?

There’s a supercharger near le man and we’ll served from Calais down to there - I’d just make sure it was well topped up before I arrived and turn sentry mode off you won’t lose much charge
  34. M

    Charging times question

do you have an off-peak window set? maybe its doing a quick initial charge to make sure electricity is available and the current - then pausing until when it thinks off peak starts?
  35. M

    Apple CarPlay in the UK?

bought a spigen phone mount (with magsafe charger built in). From having a play, it looks like it would let me arrange the phone in any of these locations the instructions suggest mounting on the top - I don’t know if thats because it has a lip that sits on top of the screen edge to help...

    More Tesla Nav gripes

It does. It’s annoying as I prefer north up, but i need the auto zoom as otherwise you get a stupid zoomed in view while travelling miles along the motorway and can’t see anything around you Makes no sense either - have that in all views or add it as an option in the settings
  37. M

    Octopus Intelligent

Would be interested to see if octopus would allow this. Because they say you can just tell it the charge level you need and it’ll work out the slots - if you need more than the core 6 hours then it’ll add slots that are cheap rate for your entire house In theory if you’re charging at 2.3kw...

Have you ever kerbed your Aero wheels?

let me go check the kerb on my street and I’ll let you know :P I’d like to know too and any tips for repairs. Don’t mind having a go at a basic touch up for now - worst case I’ll get it properly treated
  39. M

Have you ever kerbed your Aero wheels?

Bugger. Been driving into central London for a while now to avoid the train. No bumps from being buzzed by mopeds, no scrapes on high kerbs in car parks using the cameras to try and judge, no bumps in narrow car parking spaces Come home today and a neighbour a few doors down is reversing our...

    Apple CarPlay in the UK?

No. You can use Siri to open audible then press play, then Switch to Waze with Siri. And Waze has audible support in the app so you can play/pause/skip and switch apps although the button to switch is quite small it would be doable
  41. M

    Apple CarPlay in the UK?

that looks good and I’ve had brodit in the past. Spigen do a magnetic one that can sit either alongside the screen or near the window
  42. M

    Wireless phone charger 3/Y MagSafe

it can mount on any corner of the screen?
  43. M

    Apple CarPlay in the UK?

on the wireless charge pad its hard to see - although in portrait if you put the music player view on the map is on the bottom 2/3 of the screen so you can see it, but it’d be a ’glance’ so detailed directions may be difficult. Handy for speed camera alerts or whatever you want alerting for...
  44. M

    Apple CarPlay in the UK?

Just had a play in the car as I haven’t used waze in years. Car set to bluetooth input, and Waze set to apple music for my music service. - I can change tracks with my steering wheel (I could anyway because the bluetooth audio connection in the car sees the music) - I can see whats coming next...
  45. M

    Apple CarPlay in the UK?

so many manufacturers do carplay there is no way they have mac infra in their cars - it'll be running some kind of RDP with security and additional bits and bobs right? and for it to have the number of supported makers that it has, it must be simple to integrate (although perhaps now its a...
  46. M

    Apple CarPlay in the UK?

not necessarily the case. On BMWs you can still have the BMW nav running alongside (eg for HUD) but obviously carplay takes up the main infotainment screen. And you can still have radio etc working. Its just a screen share with audio feed and data communication (so you can use car controls to...
  47. M

    Apple CarPlay in the UK?

there are mid-options already. Apple updated carplay to support wider displays, and BMW I think brought the maps from carplay into the instrument cluster (when that went digital and let you show a smaller map there), and direcitons on the HUD. Nothing as significant as fundamental instruments...

    Apple CarPlay in the UK?

we’re never getting back physical controls for climate are we? Its a logical extension but I don’t really want apple screens for my main dash.

Model 3 RWD pre delivery hangout

Honestly thats often been my experience with other new cars. BMW would give you a build week estimate then go radio silent. We'd also rely on forums tracking boats and webcams and guessing which one was ours. A little more structured based on build dates though Given Tesla build a limited...

    Window washer fluid low

I hate washer fluid. The bottles you buy are never the right size for your car, so you end up putting the dregs in the cupboard under the sink, then forgetting about it next time so you build a collection of dregs. the containers don't pour neatly, and the hole is too low so you end up sloshing...
