    Does anyone wave anymore?

I used to waive at other Tesla drivers a few years ago when they were still relatively rare and it was the done thing. Now they are everywhere I've given up on that.

EV running costs starting to look expensive?

This is my recreational transport. Only batteries it has are for the electronic gears, rear light and Garmin. Approx 200W average human power on a long ride. Fuelled mainly by chicken, veg and rice stir fries!
  3. P

    Model Y popularity

Same here in Bucks/Northants. M3s have been a very common sight over the last 12 months. Considering the very short time MYs have been available, they are not exactly a rare sight either. When I picked our MY up from the NEC last month there were a lot more MYs than M3s waiting to be collected.

EV running costs starting to look expensive?

Yeah those BMW diesels were very efficient compared to most. But still nowhere near as impressive as a Tesla drivetrain.

Highway Code: Watching TV in self-driving cars to be allowed…

Just govt trying to convince themselves that true self-driving cars really are going to be a thing within the next 12 months.
  6. P

EV running costs starting to look expensive?

What was your overall average mpg? That's what really matters in this comparison. I've never achieved anything over about 36 mpg average and with nothing remotely close to the performance of a Tesla. That's mixed driving, but mostly rural and not a huge amount of motorway.

Has audio improved in 2021 models?

Yeah, if not careful you could easily end up with some very expensive but difficult to drive speakers sounding worse than the standard setup. Any speaker upgrade would need to be chosen carefully to match the amps.
  8. P

Has audio improved in 2021 models?

I doubt you would see much gain from replacing speakers. They are the least important link in the audio chain. Even modern budget speakers are actually very capable. It's mainly about the source and then the amplification. I can easily identify large differences in sound quality from the...

    Model Y UK Delivery

    Yes, NEC collection.
  10. P

EV running costs starting to look expensive?

60 mpg with a 400 hp ICE equivalent isn't a thing. More like 20-30 mpg for equivalent performance. Even if it was the same price or even cheaper (not that I think it actually is) I wouldn't downgrade to a diesel after being spoilt by Tesla EV power and convenience for over 4 years.

    Model Y UK Delivery

My MY LR has been showing May 28 - June 25 for a while now. Grey with white interior, standard wheels. Ordered it about a month ago. Stalled on processing the trade-in offer for my M3. I expect it will be a sign that things are moving when that offer comes through.
  12. P

Has audio improved in 2021 models?

I sold my Naim Audio home system several years ago. Of course it was way better than any car system. Stunning sound and dynamics. I do have a decent Canton sound system for the TV, which also comfortably beats in-car. Then I have a B&W Zeppelin for casual home listening, which I would say...

How do we get Tesla to add a speed limiter feature

Can't say I agree with this, but fortunately you don't set the rules.
  15. P

Has audio improved in 2021 models?

The car is the only place I get any peace and quiet to listen to music. Also helps to drown out road noise.
  16. P

Has audio improved in 2021 models?

IME this would just lead to a muddy, distorted bass in this car. Of the 3 Teslas I've owned, our M3 LR has the weakest bass, but the overall sound quality is still very good if you accept that bass weight is not its forte. I find it puts more emphasis on vocals than many other systems, which...

Has audio improved in 2021 models?

This is an interesting perspective and no doubt true. But for me it’s all about the music and I find that when driving along in a car some bass is lost within the low frequency road noise (and engine noise/vibration in an ICE car!). So I always end up compensating for that loss by boosting the...

    Model Y UK Delivery

I’ve read before of reviewers complaining about reflection off the white trim panel, but I find it is low enough down on the dash not to be any issue at all. Anything I read I take with a pinch of salt these days.
  19. P

    My first 'SuperCharge'

I really don't think so. These recent price rises are nothing to do with government tax. All energy costs are going up for various global reasons. But electricity will still be much cheaper than petrol/diesel. Supercharging is obviously going to cost considerably more than home charging, but...
  20. P

Has audio improved in 2021 models?

Very odd. If you use the native Tesla Spotify it should sound pretty reasonable with the premium audio in LR/P models. I don't use it with BT as I don't see any point with Spotify available. But I did try it very briefuly a long time ago and I seem to recall it wasn't great. My benchmark for...
  21. P

Trade in values seem high again ?

Woah! I presume this is for your MX 100D? If so then £45k was a low-ball offer and £63k sounds quite generous. Tesla gave me £56.5k trade-in last month for my early 2018 MX 75D with 50k miles. I was happy with that. WBAC offered £48k and motorway was estimating £51k at that time...

Power reduced error - how common is it and will it come back?

Brave call. Personally I would get it checked over. I don't think it's a simple software bug otherwise it would happen to nearly everyone at some point.

How do we get Tesla to add a speed limiter feature

As several people pointed out, it's the phantom braking that makes TACC ineffective in urban environments. It works okay on a clear road, but not with parked cars.
  24. P

    Model Y UK Delivery

I've never liked the wood trims. The solution is to just get the white interior. It's like a Tesla trademark. The black interior is just too bland and I agree the wood trim looks out of place. The white seats and trim look cool in a Tesla. It goes with the high tech futuristic vibe.
  25. P

    Model Y UK Delivery

Yep, ride quality is just fine. Nothing to concern anyone unless they are easily brain washed by a few negative press reviews. I read a few of those reviews slating the ride and my first thought was how could the ride be so much worse than a Model 3, which has a pretty decent ride quality...
  26. P

How do we get Tesla to add a speed limiter feature

Yeah good point. I'd forgotten I don't use TACC on crowded streets.
  27. P

How do we get Tesla to add a speed limiter feature

I've just learned to manually over-ride the accelerator in those situations, but I do see what you mean. TACC is not good in towns and cities. I'm just lucky enough not to drive much on crowded streets, so it actually works okay for me. I can see how a simple limiter would be better.
  28. P

How do we get Tesla to add a speed limiter feature

I know, but I just flick TACC on to cruise around at the speed limit. I can see how a limiter would be more foolproof, but no big deal. As you say, it's not something I've had to miss.
  29. P

    My first 'SuperCharge'

You would have said the same thing about current petrol/diesel costs. But electricity is still far cheaper.
  30. P

Has audio improved in 2021 models?

I must try that. I find Spotify pretty good though. If Tidal is a big step up then it should be awesome!
  31. P

How do we get Tesla to add a speed limiter feature

I just use TACC as a speed limiter. What's the problem?
  32. P

    Model Y UK Delivery

I think that's a good option. I just can't be bothered to spray mine black! Actually now I've had it for a few weeks, the Gemini wheel caps have grown on me. So I'm just going to leave it as standard.
  33. P

Model Y standard range for UK - will it happen

Obviously it ties up more cash up front, but you might find that a £50k Tesla actually works out cheaper to own over 3 years than a £30k MG5. Depreciation being the key long term cost. Take your £40k M3 for example. It's probably still worth much the same as you paid for it now that new ones...
  34. P

Model Y standard range for UK - will it happen

Tesla are clearly not interested in competing directly with VW right now. In practical terms the EV market is now bottomless for all manufacturers. They can sell everything they choose to produce and Tesla are doing extremely well in the £50-60k market with very little direct competition...

    Public Rolec EV charger failure

Yeah if the site operator isn't interested then I guess it's a dead duck.

    Public Rolec EV charger failure

Well if one of the piles of crap works, then they can potentially make the others work (i.e. fix them) right?

Car dropped to offline & has SOS error

I get that quite often. Usually when it's raining or freezing cold when I want to pre-heat it remotely!
  38. P

    Extra range estimation while driving

Yep, I would say it was a bug previously. No other explanation for the glitch.
  39. P

    Model Y UK Delivery

Yep, looks are the only benefit of the bigger wheels. In every other respect you are better off with the 19s.
  40. P

Has audio improved in 2021 models?

The Audio in our 2021 M3 LR is pretty good. Certainly better than what you would find in a cheap car and better than the standard fitment in comparably priced BMWs, Mercs etc. I wouldn't call it awesome, for example the bass is a bit muddy, but overall it's at least on par for the price range...
  41. P

Purchase vs high mileage psuedo lease?

Yep, I lost less than a grand on a 14 month old M3. Close to free motoring with such little depreciation.
  42. P

Just sold my Model Y - Parting thoughts

Looks like you've now joined an alternative cult.
  43. P

Tesla Model Y Standard Range AWD to be priced at $59,990 USD

Being around for 100 years doesn't guarantee you will be around for another 100 years. GM and Ford also need to innovate to compete. Tesla have been doing exactly that to get into such a strong position in such a short time. It's true that Tesla need to continue along a path of innovation...
  44. P

    Reversing bug?

Pretty sure it's always been like this. I wouldn't go as far as calling it a bug though.
  45. P

Model Y standard range for UK - will it happen

A mate of mine was in that camp and now happily driving around in his new MY. He wanted a Tesla ever since seeing my MX, but wouldn't buy a 3 because he needed a full hatch. We bought a 3 as a second car and it's quite practical for a booted car, but there are times when you wish it had a...
  46. P

    Model Y UK Delivery

You might be disappointed if you ordered a MY :D
  47. P

    Model Y UK Delivery

The M3 wheels will not be suitable - at least not with their standard tyre fitment as the tyres are smaller diameter than those fitted to the MY. So you would have to find an 18" tyre with a higher profile to compensate. It may be possible, but I'm happy enough with the 19" MY wheels.
  48. P

    Model Y UK Delivery

My tyres were all at 50 psi cold at delivery, like many others have reported. Recommended pressure is 42 psi, but I run mine at 40 psi. Ride is firm, but certainly not harsh (19" standard wheels).
  49. P

    Extra range estimation while driving

So it's starting to look like a bug then, as you are never going to experience an instantaneous jump of 5% charge in reality. The original post was on the M4, not some mountain pass!
  50. P

    Model Y Subwoofer Bass Mod

DAB is ancient history for me. If I really wanted to listen to radio in a Tesla I would use the Tune-in steamer. Last time I compared them, it sounded much better than DAB, although not as good as Spotify.
