    Model X First Reviews

Tesla is on course to produce more vehicles than BMW by 2023, and with much higher margins. Legacy car makers have billions of $ in basically stranded assets. Long term I would worry more about legacy carmakers than Tesla. Not that Tesla can't screw up and fail, but the scale difference is...

    Model X First Reviews

Got it. We have a 2019 X and I enjoy it for long road trips as I think it strikes the right comfort/handling balance, but it is definitely not a sporty car. I have noted that at higher speeds the momentum can be felt. It's all about frame of reference. It will be interesting to see how the...

    Model X First Reviews

I don't get the mediocre handling comment. Could you expand?

California DMV - Plates & HOV Stickers

FYI, check your stickers. Got mine back in March. I finally got around to applying for my FastTrack Flex CAV transponder only to find out that the DMV sent me someone else stickers. :) I didn't notice when I received it since I was so excited to get them. Made a new application for stickers...

Supercharger - Fremont, CA - Civic Center Drive - (permit filed, 8 stalls)

Disapproved 3 times, last as of 5/24. Some issue with non structural review.

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

Even 200 miles of actual range means charging every 150 miles on the road assuming that one keeps a 10% buffer at the bottom and charges to 80% to limit wait at fast chargers.
  7. Z

Rivian range to charge time is going to be an issue.

It would be interesting to see what is the range on road optimized 20" tires.
  8. Z

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

So, almost no one will tow heavy loads with an EV truck anytime soon. Another shocking news: tomorrow is another day... Otherwise this looks like a fine truck that can satisfy the majority of truck owners that don't tow long distance.
  9. Z

Rivian range to charge time is going to be an issue.

That is pretty impressive. Only downside is that 21" is a weird spec with not much availability

Tesla Semi electric truck is finally about to go into production

Saw the semi leaving the fremont factory last Wednesday. It was without a trailer

News for Model X owners with the dreaded shudder

From memory it was around $700 for a half shaft. So, probably $1500 for both sides.
  12. Z

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

I'm waiting for Out of Specs review. Kyle C. is the most thorough unbiased reviewer out there.

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

In the next couple weeks, we should see a bunch of Youtube reviews on the F150 EV. It'll be nice to get some real life feedback.

Supercharger - Kettleman City, CA - Bernard Dr. (check navigation screen for status, 56 V3 stalls)

So where is the new X road trip report? Are you slacking? :)
  15. Z

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

That's why I hate driving an ICE car, it feels too slow. :)
  16. Z

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

Agree. Once vehicle accelerates sub 5 seconds 0-60, it's fast enough for every day usage.

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

Even if the end result of the law is that 80% of new cars purchased in CA are EVs, it would be a tremendous step forward.
  18. Z

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

All EV trucks are 2 years out if ordering now, give or take.

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

We should literally switch the model on IOUs from guaranteed returns to capped prices. PGE electricity prices are 2 to 3 times higher than the US average, which makes no sense. CPUC should instead cap PG&E price per KWh and make it decrease back to US average over next 15 years, and let PG&E...

Superchargers in Northern California (location speculation)

While we wait for future SC updates, I'm wondering if Tesla will add some SCs on Hwy 50. I know it's not Norcal, but it's interesting to see that there is currently nothing between south Lake Tahoe and Utah, except for a future location in Ely.
  21. Z

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

OOS has an interesting race from CO to Vegas. While we love our Y, but I wouldn't buy one at today's prices. I predict that prices will come down once supply exceeds demand, which admittedly could take a long while.
  22. Z

    CCS Adapter - ?

The ease of use of the Tesla SC is unbeatable. I would want one for those odd cases when a CCS SC is more convenient on some road trip.
  23. Z

    CCS Adapter - ?

Maybe they'll do it once they open up their SCs to CCS
  24. Z

Superchargers in Northern California (location speculation)

Looks like Tesla will take the full month to update its SC map.
  25. Z

    CCS Adapter - ?

Got lucky with my Y. I took delivery at the end of Sept 2021 and it shows that CCS is enabled. I'll just wait for Tesla to make the CCS adapter available in the US.
  26. Z

    Who has ordered?

Personally, it depends on whether CT or R1S comes in first.
  27. Z

    Who has ordered?

My best guess is that more than 50% of the reservations will turn into actual orders.
  28. Z

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

So, anything interesting in the release event?

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

That's a completely fair question to which no one has a real answer. The best thing we can do is do our part and lead by example. China and India have the same problem we do. We all live on the same planet. Seems that China has tackled the EV part harder than we have. From memory, GHG come...

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

And how would a changing magnetic pole warm up the planet, instead of say increased CO2 emissions creating a green house? NASA seems to think it doesn't matter: Flip Flop: Why Variations in Earth's Magnetic Field Aren't Causing Today's Climate Change – Climate Change: Vital Signs of the Planet.

Anyone switching to a Rivian R1T after watching reviews?

Sweet. Gotta say that hitting close to rated range at highway speeds is definitely a plus.
  32. Z

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

You're assuming, I'm not. Climate change is man made and scientists smarter than you and I have figured it out. I don't get the politics of it since it affects every one from deep red to deep green (and every color of the rainbow in between). I got nothing against nuclear plants though we...

Anyone switching to a Rivian R1T after watching reviews?

Thanks for the feedback. Has the Cx been published for the CT or are you theorizing? I'm no aerodynamicist, but the CT looks pretty aerodynamic to me. Re. range: are you on 21"? Kyle from Out of Specs got 290 miles on 20" AT tires at 70mph, though it was a little cold when he did the test...
  34. Z

Anyone switching to a Rivian R1T after watching reviews?

Size wise, the rivian is close to a Tacoma.
  35. Z

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

If it weren't for the climate change impending doom, I would agree. However, with a catastrophe around the corner, externalities need to be priced properly through taxes.
  36. Z

Anyone switching to a Rivian R1T after watching reviews?

The Rivian is going after the Tacoma crowd. Their SUV is the sleeper hit IMO.
  37. Z

    Cybertruck

The onboard charger will be the one turning 220V AC into 800V DC
  38. Z

    Cybertruck

My worst car ever was a 1995 Golf. Just about everything that could break broke (speedometer hand rarely worked toward the end). My 2002 Tahoe had a few large expenses including a failed gas pump that required towing. The tranny on that sucker died a few months after we sold it around...

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

The real way to deal with this would be to tax the sh.t out of fossil fuels via a revenue neutral carbon tax, but that's a whole other debate.
  40. Z

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

Now, those are fair points. The flip side of that argument is that CA has now 13 years to get ready for it. BTW, I am pretty sure that 100% EV sales will not happen since there will always be edge cases that EV can't solve. I think/guess the biggest problem will be mining enough Lithium to...

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

About you back up your argument? That ought to be interesting
  42. Z

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

As EVs take over, the ICE supporting infrastructure will begin to slowly disappear and at some inflection point it will accelerate. It's some years away, but will happen.
  43. Z

This will stir things up if approved - California's Proposal to Ban New Gas Vehicles

Most likely 100% EV will never be achieved. That being said, it's a good way to Osborne ICE cars which is a good thing. The biggest issue is that until we see $25K EV, the goal is unachievable. Cheapest decent EV today is probably $40K and that won't for everyone.
  44. Z

Will Tesla ever offer Lease buyout?

Well, the answer is NO. Tesla is no longer allowing lessees to buy out their cars at the end of a lease, though the policy is applicable to all leases issued as of today. That seems short-sighted though. Today's leases will end in 3 years. By then, the market will no longer be crazy and used...

Supercharger - Bakersfield, CA - Copus Rd. (check navigation screen for status, 20 V3 stalls)

I used it right before Thanksgiving last year. I can't understand why it didn't get paved in the last 6 months, but Tesla works in mysterious ways.
