    Glitch in Tesla Ap

It sounds like you were charged for idle fees as one should be if their car has finished charging and they keep it plugged in. I fail to see what this has to do with the Service Center.
  2. dhrivnak

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Glad to hear it. Our area is now 110 miles from the service center with no SuperChargers between. Which may play into it. But both issues can be easily solved.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Cyber truck would be great. But you think they could even outfit a Model X. It shows they do not believe in their mission.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I would be happy if the Mobile Rangers drove a Tesla rather than an ICE vehicle. I hate the optics of Tesla always in an ICE. I have yet to see a visit in a Tesla or other EV.

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

My option for towing our little trailer to National Parks and National Forests is a RAV4 Prime. On our last trip out West we averaged 31mpg yet around town virtually all miles are electric.

Are seat heaters more efficient than AC Heat?

Seat heaters use a lot less energy, even 4 of them. But I find them to be a distant second in comfort. The advantage is you can likely lower the cabin to say 60F and still be comfortable with the seat heaters. As others have mentioned with 4 people breathing you likely have a window fogging...

Tesla Solar and Powerwall Price Increase, May 2022

I am part of a small, local solar installer, and we have seen solar panel prices rise some 25% in the last two years, not drop. Racking prices are up 20% and inverters up a modest 5%. Permitting has also gotten much more challenging. So unfortunately I have seen prices going up.
  8. dhrivnak

    Roadster 3.0

Possibly. I did notice that my 3.0 pack would circulate nearly all summer and the AC cool down did not seem to work as well with the old pack. But I did not collect data like you did.

2021 MYLR: Trunk floor board composition

I carry a much smaller tire plug kit and a compressor. It works for most punctures but not a side wall blowout.

How long to charge at an 8kW Supercharger?

Be adventuresome. More than 183,000 miles in trips in all directions and have never been left wanting or waiting. Add venture in all directions. I have Gotten where I don’t even check the build out as they will be there.
  11. dhrivnak

Are you planning to own post-warranty?

At 83,000 miles I am well past my warranty and with all my other cars I am rolling the dice hoping for at least another. 80,000 miles.
  12. dhrivnak

How long to charge at an 8kW Supercharger?

We drive through W Va often with our Model 3. There are plenty of SuperChargers along the interstates. And many B&B’s or hotels have a 120v plug that allows us to travel there without issue.
  13. dhrivnak

Do you have enough solar to go off grid in winter?

No, at least not in NE Tennessee. Thanks to net metering I typically head into winter with 1400-1700kWh surplus generated mainly in the spring and fall. And I frequently use it all by March.

    36 hours of M3 SR+ ownership...my initial thoughts

To me sentry mode wastes a lot of power so I only turn it on when necessary.

do you really need a portable air compressor?

I have not had a problem with a bike pump and my aero wheels.

do you really need a portable air compressor?

I have used mine thrice now. Glad I have it.

Poll: Why do you want a Tesla? [from 2016]

I purchased mine as it was the most environmentally friendly option available

    3.0 Battery Longevity

I agree sir and please feel free to collect data from your car as the VDS reports it.
  20. dhrivnak

    3.0 Battery Longevity

Unfortunately I do not think the 3.0 pack balances in standard mode as it was charging to 77% below the 82% where I saw the balancing begin.

2nd extra Tesla as a back up for 1 driver?

We just have the 1 Tesla and just passed 82,000 miles. It has never left us stranded and has spent part of one day, 5 hours in the shop for a new windshield. We have not been worried
  22. dhrivnak

Do supercharger users not care about price?

For most it is not easy to see the pricing as it is not posted. Yes one can dig but that is not easy at 70mph.
  23. dhrivnak

EV running costs starting to look expensive?

You must be driving very spirited. My Michelin Cross Climates still look good after 50,000 miles and I get 4 miles pre KWh. So my costs are well less 1/5 of yours. Solar helps as my electricity is about $.065/kWh.
  24. dhrivnak

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Not really as the Prius tank is not large enough for 1000 miles so one will need to make at least two gas stops.
  25. dhrivnak

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I like your analysis and it is good for trips. But we should remember that 80% of EV charging is done at home where it takes me less than 5 seconds saving those many worthless trips to a gas station.
  26. dhrivnak

What do yo do for a flat tire?

I carry a tire plug kit. I have used it twice on my Tesla, and on my Volt and two other cars stranded on the Interstate. I also carry a 12V compressor.
  27. dhrivnak

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

My Model 3 has a 4year 50,000 mile warranty, but I hope it works far longer.

Very secure, look at vehicle thefts not internet FUD.

    Solar Inverter Undersize

Sorry and yes that is definitely more than I would recommend. 1.25 is fine but 1.5 is hard to justify
  30. dhrivnak

    Solar Inverter Undersize

Use PV Watts to run a few simulations and you will likely be surprised an how little you use do to clipping. And rmember the inverters run more efficiently more of the time. We tyoically oversize the DC about 25%.

Key Card in wallet ok ?

I keep mine in my wallet with a few credit cards. I have never had an issue using it over the last 4 years. I only need to use it every 4-6 months or so but it has never not worked. That said you need to make sure you are putting it in the right places as it is very location sensitive. If...

MASTER THREAD: Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

That has not been an easy question to anoswer. First we found out on the Roaster that balancing started at 83%. But while cells could be balanced at 83% (standard charge) as you climbed to 95% or higher, balancing would start anew. If you routinely charged to 85% then just a few hours would...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Sorry I disagree, Companies respond to money spent more than votes. So consider each $ you spend as a vote. Are you voting for solar, EVs, heat pump water heater, passive solar homes? If you do you create a market and get your friends and neighbors interested. Lets create a positve cycle...

MASTER THREAD: Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

I agree weeks do not matter. But months and years do. Cells falling out of balance is a very slow but real process. That is why Tesla and most other EV makers have invested so much in BMS systems and why EV builders often use them.

MASTER THREAD: Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

True, as Tesla gives very few details. But all lithium cells exhibit a very flat voltage curve between 20% and 80%. It is very hard to determine charge level unless cells are at a very low of very high state of charge. We saw this a lot with the Roadster that was able to show us a lot more...

Why so many Tesla’s in the span of a few years?

Well my first Tesla was the Roaster I drove for 9+ years. A very fun car but not practical at all. I have driven a Model 3 for over 4 years now and 78,000 miles. I am hoping at least for another 100,000.
  38. dhrivnak

MASTER THREAD: Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

  39. dhrivnak

MASTER THREAD: Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

When you do not charge above 85% the BMS does not have a chance to balance cells. And you will be sonstraned by the weakest cell. Also not driving below 30% the BMS loses sight of the true bottom end and is conservative. I assume on your trip you charged higher and drove lower allowing the...

    To all small business owners

I would get what you really want. If your goal is to please others you will always fail. For me the S is too big and awkward to park. I really like the 3 and it’s efficiency.

Charging EV Car on Camping Site

Yes I have done it many times. That said you need to understand the plugs available as many campgrounds, especially State Parks do not have 240v charging so it can be slow.
  42. dhrivnak

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

$5 to drive 200 miles. Most gassers can understand that. And thanks to my solar it will $5 for the next 25 years.

Blinking red T on mobile charger

No that is exactly how it should work. The mobile connector is limited to 32 amps maximum. It can be less depending on the adapter but no more.

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

I am 120 miles from a service center. So no easy pickup. And I hate replacing a perfectly good battery with no symptoms. And once I see the warning I hear I do not have long to act.

Model 3 12v Battery issues, monitoring, Aftermarket replacement

Is there a similar size I can get at Advanced, or ORiley auto? I am about to hit 4 years and my OEM is doing fine. But it sounds like I am on borrowed time

    500 + Mile Range Debate

Not in my Model 3 fortunately.
  47. dhrivnak

    500 + Mile Range Debate

When possible I alway take the Model 3. After about 4 hours I want a stretch, go to the rest room and get something to eat. Under the best situation that takes 45 min and the car is ready in 40 minutes. We cover 650 miles in a day no problem, no drama and really no more time than the gasser.

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

I never said it was simple or easy. And if Tesla wa really willing to sell a $35,000 Model 3 why not allow that on line? Rather than call a number that is rarely answered? All I really meant to say is Rivian is not the only company trying to raise prices and Tesla did similar. And I stand...
