Moving to Denver- Looking for advice on about security for my car

Maybe real estate taxes are lower in CO, but personal property taxes (eg., car registration) make up for it. When I lived in PA, car registration, was about $25/year. Value of the car wasn't factored in. I forget the exact number, but the first year registration on my Model S was in the $3-4K...

How to break a Tesla battery?

Problem with that is Tesla will see it in the logs, probably call it abuse, and deny the claim.

    Good article on tire pressure

You make some good points, but I speak from real-world experience. When I bought the car (new), the TPMS read correctly. Presumably, the tires were installed and the TPMS calibrated in Fremont. It continued to read correctly until my first tire rotation in Denver, at which time the 3 psi...

    Good article on tire pressure

I don't believe this is quite correct. When you change tires or recalibrate/reset the TPMS system, that's the reference elevation that's used until the next reset of the system. For example, as already stated, here in Denver, the TPMS reads 3 PSI low. If you drive to sea level, it will...

Did Elon lie to us (again)? Or is there a miscommunication?

A paraphrase of an old joke: How can you tell when Musk is lying? His mouth is moving.
  8. B

    Voltage drop

It's not voltage, it's too quick a drop or too much fluctuation. Are you charging at 13A? If so, try 10A. I charge on a 208V line. It's a 300 ft run of 6 ga copper. I max it out at 32A (can charge up to 40A), which drops the voltage to 192V. If I charge at a higher current, the car kicks...

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

OK, thanks. For me, living in an area with lots of hills and mountains, is the loss of regen in cold weather. That's gotten worse over the years as they've pushed up the temp at which it is reduced.
  10. B

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

What xactly do you find improved with respect to cold weather driving?
  11. B

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

I'm fine with that. For the last 4 years or so, I dreaded seeing an update notice, thinking "what did they break or make worse this time?"
  12. B

Should I sell my Model S?

No. I plan to wait a few years until some other car companies (MB, BMW, Lucid, etc.) have a track record for a few years. Next car won't be a Tesla. Still hate what the company has become, in terms of customer service, since the early days...

    Poor FM Radio Reception???

FM radio reception in my Model S is is about half the range that my Toyota gets. It's because of poor antenna design and placement.

Go Fund Me for EV Charging in SE NM

So why hasn't Tesla filled in this massive hole after so many years?

    Delivered Without Wiper Fluid

It's just the beginning. It will only get worse for you! BTW, which is worse - no wiper fluid, or wiper fluid that froze on contact with the windshield when I first got the car (in Colorado ski country)?

    Poor QC, still?

Lousy CEO who cares nothing about customers = poor QC.

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

When my MCU1 died a few years ago (pre-daughterboard availability), they replaced my MC1 with a complete unit, upgrading my 3G to LTE in the process. Prior to the recent 2021.24.28 update, LTE signal strength was usually 2-3 bars (was always 4 bars with 3G), but now it's back up to 4 bars...

poor wiper performance for refreshed Model S (windshield wiper nozzle issue)

My wipers have been poor performers since the day I bought the car (upper third of the windshield remains dirty). And the washer nozzles keep drifting out of alignment. Never had that in any car before. Attempts at service haven't helped.

Wiki Consolidated eMMC Thread (MCU repair) (Black Center Screen)

So does that mean they won't replace it? Didn't NHTSA require them to do the swap?

But that means you have the V11 UI that everyone's been complaining about, or did they tweak that, too?

I have no delays or slowness with my MCU1. Maybe it's because I had the entire MCU1 replaced for the emmc flaw before they started doing only daughterboard replacements. One great advantage of staying with MCU1 is the end of buggy updates that remove nice features I have come to like. And...

The Tesla's radio is the worst radio I've ever had in a car, range-wise at about 50% range. Probably related to a poor antenna and Musk's aversion to the shark fin.
  29. B

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

It's not an upgraded radio. It's a replacement, compatible radio. And actually, it's a downgraded radio as it doesn't include AM, does it?
  30. B

They do a lot of that - change for the sake of change.
  31. B

Recall vs MCU1 upgrade or LTE upgrade

In my experience, software updates of the last 4 years have only downgraded the car, not improved it. For example, slower supercharging, inferior map and traffic display, pumps running constantly when charged to over 78%., degraded regen at temps below 60F. Not an issue in my car, but in later...

Any advice how NOT to get scammed with a private buyer?

Points taken, Hank. The reason I use the empty acct for online transfers is to protect my "real" acct number from fraudsters. I understand about the bank going after the money even if the transfer acct is emptied. Re the CTR for 10K+ cash transfers, that's not a big deal. The feds track...

Any advice how NOT to get scammed with a private buyer?

Good advice. I have a "throwaway" checking account that I use for all electronic transfers (paypal, IRS to deposit my refund, etc.) As soon as money hits that account, I transfer it to my "regular'" account. That way, nobody can debit anything because there's nothing there other than a few...

No pop=up for a while. When 2020.48.37.8 was first pushed out, I dismissed the pop-up for about a month, reading comments about the update before accepting it. Since then, all quiet.

    AP1 ONLY Please -- life after 2018.50.6

Another drawback is you continue getting the poorly designed, buggy updates that Tesla is famous for pushing out. With MCU1, updates are rare these days. It's probably been 3-4 years since an update produced a positive change in my car.
  40. B

New UI for pre-refreshed model S? Holiday update

Nice to see you're still around, sorka. Been a while since I've seen a post from you. Was always jealous of your V8 matra :) My mantra could be, "Glad I'm still on MCU1 so Tesla doesn't downgrade my car any further..."

Thanks. MCU1 here and, Fortunately, no update.

The more things change, the more they stay the same...

The difference is with Windows or Apple you're not driving 65 mph while trying to figure things out and have your eyes where they shouldn't be. It's apparent that the UI designers are sitting at their desks and have never been in a moving car while working on this stuff.

Recall vs MCU1 upgrade or LTE upgrade

Unless you plan to keep the cart another 5+ years, I wouldn't put money like that in an old car. Have the emmc module replaced in MCU1 (free) and perhaps upgrade the cellular modem ($200?)
  47. B

    MCU1 - who’s gonna try 2020.48.37.8?

I agree. I waited about a month after release before I installed it.

    Poor Service

Comparing Tesla service to Comcast or DMV is insulting those two entities.
