    Skid plate justification

$345 for both plates with shipping. $1,000 deductible. Peace of mind, priceless.

    Skid plate justification

Yes, the fiberboard around the bolt was torn up. It looked like the debris hit it at an angle, going through the fiberboard but being stopped by the bolt instead of continuing through to the components underneath.

    Skid plate justification

Three months ago I ordered front and back aluminum skid plates from eBay and they finally arrived. Installation was a simple unbolt the old and then bolt-in the new. Why spend the money? During replacement I found this steel bolt from my front skid plate had taken the brunt of a hard hit...

    Autopilot errors in 2022.12.3.16

Oh, a brain slip here - Online Routing Disabled was due to me somewhere along the way disabling my online routing. 🙄 All systems appear normal, though I’m not going to test out the emergency braking.

System Error - Sentry, Autopilot, etc

I had several errors pop up over the weekend, though not as severe as yours. A soft reset and sleep mode didn’t help, but a hard reboot fixed most of the errors. If this doesn’t correct the problem a service visit is in order. Post in thread 'Autopilot errors in 2022.12.3.16' Autopilot errors...

    Autopilot errors in 2022.12.3.16

That didn’t work for me, but a hard reset returned my cruise and autopilot. Potentially the emergency braking, too. I still have the Online Routing Disabled error, though. HARD REBOOT Open the frunk, front driver and rear passenger doors. From the Controls screen, go to Safety, Power Off...

    Autopilot errors in 2022.12.3.16

Two days ago my M3 LR threw Autopilot Unavailable, Cruise Control Unavailable, Emergency Braking Disabled, and Online Routing Disabled messages. Unfortunately I was four states and 10+ hours from home and had to drive back home without them, like a common peasant. I put in a service request...

UGH - The smell of it. [AC Smell]

I cut out cheap plastic furnace filter material. It doesn’t retain moisture or appreciably restrict airflow and is easy to shake clean. It only keeps out the larger debris.

Are you planning to own post-warranty?

My last four cars had over 200K miles each when I sold them, and I don’t expect my 2019 M3 LR to be any different. I currently have 60,700 miles on it, so only 139.3K to go.

    First roadtrip

I always charge to 100% before a long trip. It stretches out the time before my first stop and is far cheaper than charging on the road. I set my charge to complete just before I leave.

Drove My Model 3 LR 150 Miles in a Blizzard: It Did GREAT

Tesla is the top selling car in Norway, of all types - electric and ICE. So Norwegians apparently think it does okay in the cold, a hallmark of Norway.

    Problem with Hansshow Support

I’m sorry to hear you’ve joined the Hansshow defective lift club. My recommendation is that you uninstall it as soon as you can. i replaced mine with EVOffer’s lift kit which has been rock solid. Going back to a manual frunk just wasn’t an option for me.

How does the car know what the speed limit is?

I just drove the bypass and the speed limits are now recognized by my car. Finally!
  16. Petermcg

How does the car know what the speed limit is?

I know when it first opened it wasn’t on the map at all. Then at some point they added the highway & exits, but no speed limit. A divided highway should let autopilot navigate at any speed even without knowing the speed limit, but no dice here.

How does the car know what the speed limit is?

The Asheboro bypass here in NC has been open since December 2020. It’s a clearly marked, 4 lane, 65 mph, divided highway (looks like any interstate) that my M3 thinks is a 45 mph country road. I’ve taken great care to drive cleanly past the speed limit signs but the car ignores them. It...

I like it during the day, but at night the flashing turn signal makes it distracting and unhelpful.

Is there a risk of cracking the rear window when jacking up the Model 3 from just one jack point

Since the weight distribution for the M3 is roughly 53% in the rear and 47% in the front, I always jack up the rear.
  21. Petermcg

Is there a risk of cracking the rear window when jacking up the Model 3 from just one jack point

I can’t say there’s never a risk, but I’ve single-point jacked my car maybe ten times now without any issue (tire rotations).

Hansshow vs Tesla Offer Power Frunk/Trunk - which one to buy?

I don’t have that problem but I’d definitely give them a call to troubleshoot it. Their support has been good to me in the past.

    Voice commands not recognized

Our daughter used to call the glovebox the “glove department.” Voice control used to work with that command until late last year when an update stopped it figuring out I meant “glovebox.” I miss it.

Speed limit of 40 detected, missed detecting the 70; how to tell the car it is 70?

You can do that with cruise control, but with autopilot it doesn’t allow you to go more than 5 mph above what it thinks the speed limit is. In this case it doesn’t recognize it is a divided highway with a 65 mph speed limit. Autopilot is stuck at 50 mph, max.

Speed limit of 40 detected, missed detecting the 70; how to tell the car it is 70?

There is a beautiful 64 bypass around Asheboro, NC that has been open since last December. It’s 14 miles of divided four-lane freeway with 65 mph signs clearly posted. I drove it today and like always the posted speed doesn’t display and the autopilot defaults to 45 mph. The car definitely...

    Problem with Hansshow Support

I replaced my defective Hansshow frunk kit with EVOffer’s, which has been working flawlessly. I just completely removed Hansshow’s hardware and did a new install of the EVOffer kit. They have similar steps, replacing the latch, the struts, etc., so having done one I was more comfortable with...

How Long to Get Used to Driving M3?

It took me no time at all. The rapid slowdown upon releasing the accelerator, and the rapid acceleration when pressing it are the biggest changes. I thought that having the speedometer and other controls off to the side on the screen would be a big learning curve, but it wasn't at all. If...

Good 12v service from Tesla Raleigh

6/2019 delivery LR M3 here with 49,370 miles. This morning nothing worked when opening the door - the window didn't lower, the screen didn't appear. I did a double-wheel reboot which brought up the screen, showing BAD 12v BATTERY errors. The earliest service appointment (mobile or SC) was...

Tire wear 2021 Model 3 LR AWD

I don’t have enough experience with these yet. I find the performance about the same - maybe a little louder than the OEMs, but to tell you the truth that may be just the new vs. worn tread. If they hold up I would buy them again. As for winter tires, I agree with the hassle of winter tires...

Tire wear 2021 Model 3 LR AWD

Should I keep my SR+ order, or Re lease another BMW 330?

I was wondering if that was the case. Then you’re only on the hook for gas. Since you don’t drive much it won’t be a large cost, but it’s still an added expense. With the Tesla there is no scheduled service, so you don’t have the hassle of bringing your car in at all.
  34. Petermcg

Should I keep my SR+ order, or Re lease another BMW 330?

The savings are much more than that, given the costs for gas, oil, brake pads, and expensive service with the BMW. All these go to zero with the Tesla.

Hansshow vs Tesla Offer Power Frunk/Trunk - which one to buy?

I have my buzzer on a shelf in my garage. I’ll temporarily put it back if I need to reprogram. The Tesla Offer frunk kit works just fine without it.

Model 3 electric tailgate / frunk (power liftgate) group buy?

Hansshow’s warranty is worthless. They didn’t honor mine (failed in under a year) and they likely won’t honor yours. I made the expensive decision to cut my losses and replaced my frunk kit with Tesla Offer’s superior product.

Range Model 3 [can I make a 250 mile trip with no stops?]

I regularly cover that distance without charging. It isn't a problem unless you drive fast or aggressively. Using the heater or rain impacts range more than using the AC. The car will tell you if you need to keep below a certain speed to make your destination. As others have said, using ABRP...

Phone app trying to connect to car but fails.

I have this same issue when at my daughter’s house with the car on the very edge of her WiFi range. It appears to me (and I could be totally wrong here) that the car can detect there is a WiFi (barely) available so it chooses that method to connect, but the signal actually isn’t strong enough...

    Problem with Hansshow Support

Yes, it was extremely frustrating that the mechanical pull wouldn’t release the latch. That’s the very reason it exists. I tested it out when I installed it and it worked fine, but failed when I needed it most. Hansshow had no suggestions.

    Tesla 3 charging

i apologize, I read it as two 30 amp single throws instead of one 30 amp double. Of course the existing wall wiring isn’t going to be adequate. You can’t just slap in a higher-amp breaker and call it a day. I assumed he was wiring in a new outlet with the required heavier gauge wire into his...

    Tesla 3 charging

Yes, that is what my electrician did. I had a single open space in my panel, which is now a double-pole 60 amp (after sacrificing my 30 amp drier breaker). Load calculations should always be done if you’re increasing the panel amperage, as you indicated.
  47. Petermcg

    Tesla 3 charging

You are absolutely correct. What I should have said is that the two 30 amp breakers can be switched out to a 60 amp (double pole) breaker, which is what I did (well, my electrician did).
  48. Petermcg

    Tesla 3 charging

Two 30-amp connected breakers means that is a 60 amp line. I have exactly your setup and had an electricIan disconnect the drier outlet (which is upstairs) and wire my wall charger to the 60 amp line. It’s code in my state that an electric drier line is available, so I’ll have to reconnect the...

Garage Issue: Need Charger Placement Advice

My wall charger is right next to the charging port. While I don’t have your orientation problem, I occasionally back my M3 into the garage which means I have to run my (long) charging cable down the passenger side and around the back of the car to reach the port. It isn’t a problem and there’s...
