I think all they have to do is go into toolbox and update the vehicle config to include passenger lumbar, then trigger another update. It's not that different from activating HomeLink, I don't think.

Mine doesn’t work anymore. I assume Tesla wasn’t targeting the retrofitters directly but rather the aftermarket ’massage’ modules which can wear out the lumbar supports, so the update probably pushes some rate limit feature or gives the car the ability to disable the modules if used too...

Oh yes, this makes sense if your vehicle bus is disconnected as the canserver will still operate on only the chassis bus (and some signals like speed are on both, whereas others like blind spot are only on the under seat chassis bus, and the gauges like charge state are only on the vehicle bus)...

What i have heard from the source is that brand new cars have a diagnostic connector at the base of the A pillar on the passenger side (not sure if this is the same on RHD models like yours) that carries both buses, but no idea what it looks like.

I'm on it. ELM327 is a pain, so it'll take a little while, and I still need to get it working to make sure it performs adequately. One thing you can't get with ELM is any autopilot or blind sport status as that's on a different bus.

No, the canserver cannot inject can messages into the bus, and it's a bad idea to do so because you don't know what would happen.

Yeah, it's just literally a round peg in a square hole, on a screen that is maybe 60mm tall. More appropriate rate of change would be done with a moving tape display which is less space inefficient for a rectangular viewport. Dials exist because of mechanical gauges.
