    Charge Stats Still Missing

I have a 2018 Model 3 as well. Perhaps it's only available in some areas? I'm in California.
  2. Eno Deb

    Charge Stats Still Missing

I have tried that and it didn't help (FWIW, I didn't have to re-register the phone as key).

    Charge Stats Still Missing

I keep seeing references to the Charge Stats function in the release notes of the iOS app, but it never showed up in my app. I'm on software 2022.4.5.3 and have the latest version of the app (4.6.1) installed. The menu item that I have seen in screenshots is simply not there. Anybody else still...

    Charge Stats Still Missing

I keep seeing references to the charge stats in the release notes of the iOS app, but the stats never showed up for me. I'm on firmware version 2022.4.5.3, and have the latest version of the app (4.6.1) installed. I'm in California, if that matters. Anybody else not seeing the charge stats...

No CarPlay is a deal breaker. WTF?

While we dream of robo taxis, can I please get a safe way to play audiobooks, and a podcast app that can remember the playback position?

No CarPlay is a deal breaker. WTF?

Check this out to see how Carplay could look on the Tesla: Here's a brief description of how it works: https://appleinsider.com/articles/22/01/15/developer-hack-puts-carplay-on-tesla-using-a-raspberry-pi
  7. Eno Deb

No CarPlay is a deal breaker. WTF?

I'd love to have Carplay, primarily for audiobooks and podcasts. Also, the Tesla Spotify app is not great compared to the phone app (dynamic playlists often don't update properly, and the bitrate is limited to 96kbps).

V11 - How to turn on seat heaters without turning on climate?

Exactly. CO2 concentrations over 1000 ppm can cause drowsiness, which is obviously not a good thing for the driver. If you turn the fan off completely, the concentration rises quickly to that level in modern cars (even worse when more than one occupant is in the car).
  9. Eno Deb

V11 - How to turn on seat heaters without turning on climate?

Leave the climate control on, turn off Auto and A/C, set temperature to "LO" to prevent the heater from turning on. This way you get a fan-only mode that uses very little energy. It's a bit annoying, but driving with no fan at all isn't a good idea anyway since the CO2 concentration in the cabin...

To FSD or not FSD….that is the question…

You said "reliably navigate". It's nowhere near what I would call reliable. If Tesla can't even do limited highway driving without constant supervision, what makes you think they can do it for more complex scenarios like city driving? "My fantasy system"? I have no idea what you are talking...
  11. Eno Deb

To FSD or not FSD….that is the question…

A system that occasionally tries to drive you into bridge pillars or oncoming traffic is not reliable. Personally, I would gladly forget about what Tesla calls FSD in favor of an L3 version of the current Autopilot that would reliably handle long highway drives while letting me read or watch a...

To FSD or not FSD….that is the question…

Take it from someone who bought it: if you expect something resembling level 5 autonomy, FSD is a complete waste. After years of promises they aren't even close. I think it's likely that they will never get there with the current hardware (sensor suite and AI accelerator chip). I regret spending...

    Stuck in 2021.32.22?

FWIW, I'm in the same boat (have FSD but never pushed The Button), was also stuck on 32.x and just updated to 36.5.1, but never emailed them. So looks like we may be on a different track than all the beta guinea pigs. :p Live cam would be nice, but honestly I'm much more interested in the...

    Stuck in 2021.32.22?

Finally got the 36.5.1 update after being stuck on 32 for a while. Was hoping for the 40.5 version because of navigation waypoints, but with the reports of increased phantom braking on Autopilot with the 40 verisons, maybe it's better this way ...

    2021.40.5

Finally! I need this. Unfortunately for some reason I am still stuck at 2021.32, now that they are adding some interesting features (live camera and now waypoints). :(

FSD Transfer - NO - but Tesla says it's really OK

The thing is, you (and I) probably paid less for EAP + "old" FSD than people with newer cars paid (and are still paying) for "new" FSD, so I'm not sure I buy the notion that we are the bigger victims. ;-) The reason why I think that early buyers are probably more "deserving" of a one-time...

FSD Transfer - NO - but Tesla says it's really OK

Perhaps they could allow for a one-time transfer for those who paid thousands and never got the promised features. I'm not even asking for actual "full self driving" anymore (doubt that will happen this decade), but when I got my car in 2018, it was supposed to also do things like park itself...

New tweet from Tesla: will sell their own CCS adaptor “soon” in North America

According to the store page, the European CCS 2 adapter has a maximum charging rate ("Max. Laderate") of 142 kW. Obviously it depends on the SoC and nominal battery voltage how much can be achieved in practice. In any case, it will be significantly faster than the Chademo or Setec adapters. I'm...

New tweet from Tesla: will sell their own CCS adaptor “soon” in North America

The Korean Tesla store page says that the adapter is rated for 500 V/300 A, so it could be up to 150 kW.

    Autonomous Car Progress

Intel is actually outsourcing the manufacturing of some of their designs to TSMC (e.g. the new discrete XE GPUs). Their packaging technology can mix and match chips from their own fabs and external suppliers. Wouldn't suprise me if TSMC or maybe Samsung also manufactured MobilEye's chips.

    Safety Score

Do we know that they have collected the data that they are using for the score all along without telling us? I would consider that a massive breach of privacy. If they haven't, they probably don't have a whole lot of data yet. Can Tesla Insurance customers outside of California opt in to be scored?
  22. Eno Deb

    Safety Score

That's more likely because California state law (Prop. 103) prohibits insurance companies from using telematics to set premiums. They must be calculated based on safety record, length of driving experience, and miles driven annually.
  23. Eno Deb

    Safety Score

Credit ratings are in large part based on past behavior. E.g. missed payments and bankruptcies have the largest negative impact on credit scores. For a car insurance the equivalents would be past minor and major accidents. At the end of the day, credit and insurance scoring models are designed...
  24. Eno Deb

    Safety Score

And do you think it would be fair by your insurance company to now raise your rate based on, say, accelerometer data, even though you have a stellar 20-year safety record?
  25. Eno Deb

    Safety Score

We are far away from AI having the I to understand context. Until then, these ratings are at best based on statistics. But statistics are just that, and don't say a lot about an individual. The only metric that should matter for an insurance company is how often you are involved in collisions.
  26. Eno Deb

    Safety Score

That assumes that these scores accurately reflect the driving safety, which I don't think they do. Context matters, and that cannot be captured by vehicle sensors. I drive super carefully when other cars are around, but sometimes have "some fun" when the situation allows it (e.g. empty country...
  27. Eno Deb

    Safety Score

I agree with you. The section in the Tesla blog about what happens to the collected data when the vehicle is sold doesn't make it sound like this is just a temporary thing for people wanting to sign up for the FSD beta. Personally I don't want to be constantly monitored and scored (reminds me a...

    2021.32.21

I received .22 as well but will not push The Button for now. I'm not really that interested in HBSD (half-baked self driving ;)) and I definitely don't like the Big Brother privacy disclaimer ("I consent to the collection and review of ongoing VIN-associated vehicle driving data"). I wish they'd...

Tesla releases big, new software update with Disney+, Car Wash Mode, remain connected to wifi, and more - 2021.24.x

Tesla releases big, new software update with Disney+, Car Wash Mode, remain connected to wifi, and more - 2021.24.x

Received 2021.24.11 the other day. Nothing new in the release notes. I don't think I have ever received so many minor version updates in such a short time. Hopefully they are preparing for something big. ;)

Tesla releases big, new software update with Disney+, Car Wash Mode, remain connected to wifi, and more - 2021.24.x

Can confirm. I just got 24.5 and the release notes are identical to 24.4. Doesn't even mention bug fixes specifically.

Elon: auto shift will come to all Tesla cars with FSD

But that's the thing: checking what the car predicts takes just as long as tapping the stalk in the direction I want to go. In another life I did UI design, and one of the golden rules was to make the behavior of the system predictable where possible, so humans can develop "motor memory". If I...

Elon: auto shift will come to all Tesla cars with FSD

I'm sceptical, but will wait until I've tried it before I make up my mind. I don't really understand what problem it solves though. Tapping the stalk is "automatic" for me as well, and there's no ambiguity e.g. if you are parallel parked with cars in front and behind. I'm just glad that Tesla...

Tesla.com - "Transitioning to Tesla Vision"

Eh, no. This was supposed to be a new high-resolution radar for autonomous driving. Green The Only even found some hints on that in Tesla's firmware. https://electrek.co/2020/10/22/tesla-4d-radar-twice-range-self-driving/

2021.4.11: Model 3 suffering from insomniac after update!?

Looks like this issue was fixed in 2021.4.15. I updated the other day and left the car plugged in today after charging was complete, and it's been sleeping like a baby for several hours since then.

2020 Model SL LR, running 2021.4.12: MCU freezing, requires scroll wheel reset - anyone else have this problem?

No I haven't. It's a pain to deal with their support for issues like this in my experience (they want to walk you through their entire playbook before they actually send a bug report to engineering). I'm fairly certain that it's a software issue because it started after I had done one of the...

    "Long-term Parking Setting?"

Just make sure to turn off Summon standby and Sentry mode (it's important to turn off the former before you leave because it can't be controlled remotely, while Sentry can), because they prevent the car from sleeping. You'll lose roughly 1-2% battery charge per day this way.

2020 Model SL LR, running 2021.4.12: MCU freezing, requires scroll wheel reset - anyone else have this problem?

Yes. I've had this a few times too. It started with one of the recent 2021.4.x updates. Model 3 LR HW3.
  42. Eno Deb

2021.4.11: Model 3 suffering from insomniac after update!?

As mentioned earlier I've had this issue since at least 2.4.3, and it's still there in 2.4.12. I now leave the car unplugged in the garage (only plug in manually to charge and unplug when done) and that stops it. The constant cycling of the battery connector can't be good.

Emails between Tesla and CA DMV on Smart Summon, FSD

It does mention a few things that the system can't do. This is not an autonomous system that just needs "a little supervision". It simply lacks capabilities required to drive autonomously: " City Streets’ capabilities with respect to the object and event detection and response (OEDR) sub-task...

    2021.4.3 Update

Don't expect replies with that kind of tone.

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

Chademo's fate in the US (and Europe) was sealed long before EA existed, when all of the carmakers in the US (and Europe) decided not to adopt it outside of the Japanese market. What other major non-Tesla DC FC provider has built a network for long distance trips? There is only a single Chademo...
  47. Eno Deb

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

That has nothing to do with "stacking the deck", but with simple market realities. Chademo is a dying standard in the US. Tesla superchargers were also underutilized in the early years, particularly outside of California. What Tesla understood then is that there is a chicken and egg problem...

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

It also benefits everbody else's vehicles. If it makes you feel better, consider that it saved American car companies like GM, Ford, Lucid and Rivian billions that they'd otherwise have to spend on building charging infrastructure to make their EVs viable in the US market. Even Tesla drivers...

Consumer Reports: Tesla Autopilot a “distant second” to GM Super Cruise

There is a substantial difference between L2 and L3 in this regard. L3 doesn't require the driver to constantly pay attention in some situations. They just have to be ready to take over once the car alerts them. BTW, the Electrek article you mentioned above is wrong. The Ford system is not L3...
