    18 vs 19 wheels

No question, stay with the 18's and save the money. They have better efficiency and the taller sidewalls are less prone flats and will protect the rims better. Tire type/brand/compound/tread etc. will have more of an impact on traction than 1" in diameter by far.

    Model 3 at Lease End

I don't know what the money factor is on the leases people have but for me it was an easy decision to go with buying vs leasing on our 3 earlier this year. I think it was a 1.24% APR and the car had gone up something like 4k+ since I originally ordered it. Even if the market returns to normal so...

    Model S Trailer Hitch Installation

No factory hitch offered in the US for a model S. The one from the Model X will fit and there are several aftermarket options as well. Tesla wants you to buy either the Y or the X if you want to tow in the US or to use a hitch mounted bike carrier.

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

The problem typically is not the yoke in normal cruising down the highway mode, with no gear changes required. It would be hard to mess that scenario up, even for Tesla. You could use skid steering or toe brakes, and still be tolerable. I have no issues on trips with the yoke. The simplified...

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

They could have even gone with a variable ratio steering system not had the complexity of steer by wire. Honda did it a long time ago and I mentioned it in another thread. Here is a press release from that time. Wayyyyyy back in 1997. So to say Tesla couldn't have done better is total BS. The...

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

I am probably as far from a Tesla Stan as exists yet who really appreciates what Tesla is pumping out. I am very well of the issues, have dealt first hand with some of them, but still haven't found a better alternative. The CT never ticked the BEV truck boxes for me. The Ford did a much better...

Thoughts on Yoke from Plaid owner

@Plaid to Mod 3 - Good luck with the 3. I have an '22 S and a '22 3. I can't say I am a yoke fan and having flown with both sticks and yokes for many years, I'll just say Tesla screwed up the implementation of the yoke and removal of the stalks was an even bigger sin. Every time I'd get back in...

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

Pretty solid for such a heavy car and definitely pulling the M3P at the end by quite a bit.

    PPF or no PPF

I agree a bit of hyperbole to compare PPF installation to implanting a pacemaker. At the same time, I got the point of leaving it to the experts. I don't have the time or patience to try and learn it. I did car window tinting while in college and probably would do ok at doing my own PPF. When I...

T Sportline 360 Yoke Replacement: review in ~2 weeks

I can see that argument. In my experience however, I would argue the opposite that the yoke and lack of stalks (depending on the situation) actually contributed to the crash. There are some scenarios where the yoke is clearly inferior to a wheel in its current form. I've listed them elsewhere so...

Ordered M3P coming from FBO E85 Golf R...hope the Model 3 can check the same boxes

Just buy the MS Long Range and put good tires on it. You have a hatchback, albeit a larger one, you have a car that will do 10 sec 1/4's and trapping at about 130. No CarPlay but workarounds exist it seems. Interior is much better than the 3. I have a 3 and S. You have better range, very good...

Suggestions for towing 2 ebikes with model 3 LR

That is a pretty long lever arm and can exert a lot of torque on that hitch. Likely there is a fair amount of aero drag due to the bike, it is going to stress it even more. I can't say I'd chance it on a 3. If I did, I'd be using a bore scope or pulling the bumper to look for any signs of...

How not to recharge a Model S

I just saw this and hate to say I wasn't actually shocked.
  14. D

What should my ideal charge percentage be?

One of the key things is DoD; depth of discharge. It is better to do more frequent, "smaller" cycles than bigger, less frequent ones. It is less stress on the battery. Keeping your average state of charge lower is better, but obviously not zero. I shoot for 50% average state of charge. Some good...

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

I felt your pain for a long time with my Y. If I were to do it over, based on my experience with my Y, I would have gone with a Rivian instead. While I think the super charger network is one of the best selling points of Tesla, I haven't used it as much as I thought I would. There are a couple...

    2022 M3 RWD vs. M3P Worth the $ Diff?

I would keep it in chill mode for your wife until she gets used to it. The car is VERY quick stock when totally unleashed. Even at low charge level is is still capable of low 4 second 0-100km/h times. I remember the first time my wife drove our M3 LR with no restrictions and it scared the heck...

    Trailer hitch on 2021 refresh?

Here is what I used on my Y. Worked really well and legal. It is a soft shackle. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B081RBCP84/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 In retrospect, the diameter I bought was likely overkill. So this time I went with 5/16" instead and a little longer. Much...

Towing travel trailer with Model Y

It sounds doable. I had 2 Sea Doo RXT-X 300's on a tandem trailer about 36 cm wider than my Y. If you can charge when you get there, you can always slow down to make it. Try setting it up with a better route planner and ad the trailer to the car as part of the config. It can tell if you would...

Towing travel trailer with Model Y

Try and keep it inline and low as possible. Are you talking 225km round trip? I towed 2 big skis behind my Y and it basically cut my range in half towing at about 110kph. You should do better with just one ski but I was towing in fairly flat Florida too.

Going to order a new Model 3 performance. Should I consider the long range AWD?

At least if I am paying a premium, I'll get much lighter/better wheels. The Ubers are super heavy. I do believe there are some 18" that fit from what I've read. At the end I would spend the money on forged wheels and save a ton of weight and look better at the same time. On my Y I went with...

Going to order a new Model 3 performance. Should I consider the long range AWD?

If I were ordering new, I would probably go with the M3P since the price differential has shrunk so much to 5k. I would immediately sell the 20" Ubers and put something better in their place. It would let me get the car a lot sooner too. When I ordered my LR, I think the differential was about 7...

Going to order a new Model 3 performance. Should I consider the long range AWD?

A long range with boost will crush those numbers with no issues. You are looking at a pretty easy 3.7 0-60 (with rollout(~3.5 without rollout)) and the 1/4 at 11.8 @ about 116. It will run those numbers without doing anything special, just mash the throttle and go, time after time until the...

Model Y LR vs P comfort

I don't know about your area, but test drives can be really hard to get. If lucky they might have just a M3 LR in stock. Last year I could pretty much drive anything but the refreshed S/X, this year they sell the demos as quick as they can to make their numbers. The low profile tires on the P...

Model Y LR vs P comfort

I had a 2021 Model Y LR with the 19" wheels. It had the best ride quality of all the Model Y's I rode. The 21" Uber wheels on the P are at the opposite end of the spectrum for comfort. I originally wanted to go with the P over the LR and after about 15 min test ride in the P, my wife hated the...

Help me choose. 2022 Model S or Model 3 Performance??

Comparing interiors... the 3/Y feel pretty cheap. The S definitely feels a lot more upscale but not top of the class. For me a much nice place to spend time in that the 3/Y and with ever day in the 100's now I take maximum advantage of the cooling seats. I think this was/is a MAJOR miss on the...

Going to order a new Model 3 performance. Should I consider the long range AWD?

Supposedly the front brakes are Brembos on the non-P as well. Main difference is bigger rotor and the bling from the red paint. If you really wanted you could add the rear spoiler, wider rotors, paint your calipers red, invest in better suspension for the LR w/boost and have a better all around...

Help me choose. 2022 Model S or Model 3 Performance??

Good catch, shouldn't type when on cold drugs just before going to sleep. I couldn't edit my post so the order of most efficient to least for me has been the 3 @ 255Wh/mi; S @ 275Wh/mi, and Y @315Wh/mi. I can also add that I tend to drive the 3 most aggressively of any lately. Overall though the...

Going to order a new Model 3 performance. Should I consider the long range AWD?

Truly little benefit to the P or the LR w/boost. This video was one of the key items that pushed me to go with a boosted Y, and then 3, along with some other detailed vids of how well the boosted ones run. All I can say is I have never once regretted not buying the M3P. The 3 with boost is...

Help me choose. 2022 Model S or Model 3 Performance??

Interesting choice and very similar to what I went through thinking about a year ago. Ordered the MYLR and MSLR at the same time. Drove the MY for a for almost a year, added boost about a month into ownership and waited for me S to come. Long story short, decided to punt the MYLR and were...

    WH/mile?

I have a 2022 3 and S. Both are LR's with the smallest aero wheels for each model (18" & 19"). My lifetime for my 3 is 255 Wh/mil. For the S it is 275 Wh/mi. This is with very similar usage patterns for both cars. The 3 is vastly more efficient in town as it has a lot less weight to accelerate...

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

Last M3P (2021) I ran a year ago, was a 3.23 w/rollout. That was just on some random side road. The same car on another ran the 1/4 in 11.4 something at over 117. At the time I was much bigger than I am now and was at about 330 pounds so I wasn't help the cars time either. It was a very good...

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

That is a concern I have. Last M3P I tested with my Dragy was better than ANY runs I've seen posted here. I didn't buy the S for it to be slower than an M3P. I made a lot of instrumented test runs in M3P's and LR's, MYP and LR's. The M3P hit hardest of all those off the line. My MS LR has never...

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

Good to know. The LR might get pretty close to that but with possibly higher trap speeds.
  35. D

Dragy times for Plaid and LR

You need to stop posting about this. While I am not regretting buying the Plaid, your times are good enough that they clearly have my interest. Maybe removing a bunch of weight would get the LR to the very low tens and trapping mid 130's. If they did make a competition or higher spec Plaid...

T Sportline 360 Yoke Replacement: review in ~2 weeks

You hit on the reason why I didn't go Tsportline and chose the Hansshow instead. I wanted a predominantly round wheel. The Hansshow does a great job there. Feels a lot more natural to me. Still miss the stalks on my 3 but one of my biggest issues with my S has a solution.

    Wiki Model S Delivery Update

I was sort of in your situation regarding the lights. I got one of the last one with the old lights and I am missing the tilt screen too but I have radar. For what I saved on interest rates, I am fine with where I am at. I don't like the looks of the new taillights and I can't see any real...

    Trading in higher value vehicle

Lucky you. How old where the last 2 you traded in. What models did you trade in the last ones and on what models? I suspect most any model that is not very old, Tesla is NOT the place you are going to get the best deal on trade. Just for the heck of it, I asked what I'd get on trade for my new...

What should my ideal charge percentage be?

If you are that close to it it i.e. 72%, might be worth it. If you are at 80% unlikely you are going to get there if in the last year of warranty. If not, all you've done is accelerate the degradation of the pack.

    Trading in higher value vehicle

You might have better luck trading in to Tesla on a older car like an old S,X but the new hotness they don't do well. For the trade on my Acura for my Y, they did fairly well when factoring in the sales tax impact. On my Y, it wasn't even close. As soon as they asked for my original sales sheet...

    Trading in higher value vehicle

Do you have an actual trade value from Tesla? I guarantee they will lowball you. It will NOT reflect the current market value of the car. So if you are basis your 68k trade value on outside numbers, rather than Tesla, you are in for a rude awakening if it is a new car. They offered me 12k less...

Acceleration boost upgrade, no software update needed?

Mine was built in Mar 2022, not sure of battery size. I can confirm that boost works on it with no issues. As usual, it was well worth the upgrade.

Torklift Ecohitch Stealth for Refreshed 2021 Model S

My first thought is that is a LOT of play. Maybe it is the washers compressing against the body to limit dissimilar metal corrosion. I am curious to see what others have experienced. I was debating between the X or the Forklift on my S and this may be a big strike against the Forklift for me.

1 click away from ordering model Y

I was all in on the white interior but I saw enough vids on YouTube with my use case (small child), and posts here, that said they got a stain they couldn't get out. While it holds up pretty well in a lot of situations, I've seen what forgetting a lollipop can look like even on dark colored...

^^ What he said. Black is beautiful... but only what it is clean and pristine. I'll never buy another black car, especially since I am in hot climates as well.
