    FSD Warning Sticker/Magnet

I personally am not a fan of any sticker/magnet, but if I had to go with one, it'd be a plain ol "student driver." I'd rather not advertise that the car is making driving maneuvers. Lots of anecdotes of people not reacting well to machine driving.

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

around here, yes they notoriously appear out of nowhere. and yes they progressively get larger. we also have something called frost heaving, which can basically create very hard bumps as the asphalt is shoved upwards by underground ice. Those frequently form insta-potholes in the spring.

    Vision only following distance

Same car as you. yeah the follow distance is not very consistent. It used to be. Sometimes it's hard to tell if it's at the final following distance because AP now takes forever to get back up to set speed if it slows down for traffic. I have mine set to 2 (used to have it on 1 with radar)...

Can you share the curve? DM if you want. maybe I'll go try it out.

    FSD Beta 10.12

Haven't watched much; just the part where he's gushing about the hairpin turns. My own experience with curvy roads matches what he's saying. There's been a night and day difference in improvement slowing down in advance for curves with near human-like smoothness. I haven't tested on a...

    Bring back EAP (to USA)

I think the big question is whether someone who buys this 6k EAP will get FSDb-equivalent functionality once Tesla goes to a single stack of code. For older cars, they may need the HW3 computer retrofit. If some people never get that, then I would think they have to run the existing (old)...

    FSD Beta 10.12

we were the first safety-score cohort that got FSDb 10.2 on Oct 11, 2011. We spent 3 weeks massaging our SS starting Sept 25, and we were morally against rebooting the MCU to clear penalties :D

[UPDATED] 2 die in Tesla crash - NHTSA reports driver seat occupied

Agree. in practice though, the reaction time of the car to drop the window is very quick. Opening both ways back to back, I had a hard time perceiving slowness. I would estimate any delay to be around 100-200ms. Also agree that delay could be a problem if the person is already pushing out on...

[UPDATED] 2 die in Tesla crash - NHTSA reports driver seat occupied

Strange. a month into ownership (April 2018), a passenger used the "wrong" way to open the door. no issues, but the car chimed at me with a dialog on the screen with the warning. After that, I tested my side and found the windows came down. Never understood the purpose of the warning if the...

[UPDATED] 2 die in Tesla crash - NHTSA reports driver seat occupied

Have you ever tried it? Or have you ever had a passenger accidentally use it? In my 2018 Model 3, the window comes down when the manual release is used. I have compared both ways of opening the door. There is virtually no difference. It has been this way for 4 years. I might have expected...

Will Mercedes jump to level 3 before Tesla? Looks like it.

Yes, I was pointing out that there was a way to tell when the brake lights come on from the visualization, but for newer owners, it's not really that practical to use it.
  12. novox77

Will Mercedes jump to level 3 before Tesla? Looks like it.

Just keep in mind that the brake light on a Tesla is triggered by a deceleration threshold, so if you let off the accelerator just enough to coast, or barely regen on a highway, the brake light will not come on. At high speeds, like on the highway, you have to regen very hard for the brake...

    False FSD Strikes?

For those of you who are getting false positive strikes from the cabin camera, you should email fsdbeta at tesla dot com and request that cabin camera data be included in the AP snapshot. that way you can report these false positives and they have a chance at pinpointing the issue. I see no...

    Something wrong with MY M3?

It certainly feels that given how many revisions for parts that Tesla goes through, that there's a chance that a certain revision of a part or combination of part makes FSD behave in a deviant manner. We see this anecdotally. Some notable occurrences are: 1) some people having worse phantom...

    FSD Beta 10.12

10.12.2 appears to modulate speed much better for winding roads. It slows for a turn earlier and smoother. Not human smooth, but sufficiently comfortable for me. A bit on the conservative/slow side, but this is probably the car intentionally staying under a certain lateral-G threshold.

    FSD Beta 10.12

It says "Changing lanes away from cones." Usually will get you into the lane you don't want to be in. IMO it should only do that if the cones are IN the lane, intending to move traffic over. Also sometimes misidentifies something as a cone briefly and moves you over unnecessarily.

    FSD Beta 10.13

I remember driving to Springfield, MA from Boston for a business trip. Driving was slow and courteous out west. Reminded me of my childhood roads in suburban Atlanta. Couldn't call anyone in Springfield a Masshole. FSDb might do really well there.

Autopilot on Beta trunk - so good!

Wonder how many people would relinquish FSDb just because they don't like the "cabin camera watchful eye," esp given the effort made to get in. So basically for FSDb users that have no issues with their cabin camera (most everyone), they can just keep using FSDb.

    AP/FSD scared of the dark?

Good news is that the issue with "too dark for cameras" goes away instantly if a car is approaching within that camera's field of view. Their headlights would easily be seen, and the whiny cameras will shut up.

Tesla's FSD Beta Is Not Yet For Everyone | TMC Podcast Clip

hey I recognize that username! @lUtriaNt :D @Twiglett gets a shoutout. in my own anecdotal experience, phantom braking has significantly improved with this release, particularly the kind that happens when you're just driving straight on a local road (2 lanes separated with a double yellow)...

Did your FSD beta ever hit the curb during a right turn?

Yeah this is a situation where you can't be too reactive. If in doubt, disengage. I tend to get more issues on left turns (cutting close to a median strip) or small rotaries (driving too close to the inner circle curb). But on occasion, I've disengaged a right turn too. Basically if the car...

    AP/FSD scared of the dark?

It gets dark where I live. There are no street lamps on the roads in my neighborhood, and I'm far enough from a major urban center so there is no skyglow from light pollution. It's usually my b-pillar cameras that complain. It's never stopped FSD from continuing though.

FSD Beta and Automatic High Beams

I think i've developed muscle memory to shut off the high beams whenever i engage FSDb, even during the day. Or if I see the gray icon on screen, I'll push forward on the stalk to make it disappear.

TACC not resuming speed after using accelerator

I have never actively chosen to use TACC. It's always been AP or nothing. Now with FSDb, I get thrown into TACC with a steering wheel disengagement, and in that short period, TACC performs very poorly. More reason for me to never use it. Just curious what kind of use case do you prefer to...

Why does TACC remain active after FSD steering wheel disengagement ?(which is not safe IMHO)

Yes, it's annoying. Likely already reported to Tesla a lot, but so far, they haven't budged on this functionality. They did make a compromise change in an earlier version of FSDb. When you disengage with the wheel, instead of the two-tone disengaging chime, you only hear the first tone. Then...

    FSD Beta 10.12

I used to go to Great Brook all the time. I remember North Rd. Yeah, FSD would probably just drive down the center. The unmarked roads in my neighborhood is almost 3x the width of North Rd, but the car still has issues hogging the lane. I guess we have to keep snapshotting.

    FSD impending 5th strike

This particular type of auto-disengagement (exceeding max speed on the highway, currently 80mph for vision-only cars) does not count as an FSDb strike, just FYI. -edit- I should prolly read the rest of the thread. already answered.

    New Keeping Your head Up

There's no need to debate how safe or unsafe it is for people to look away or not. Nor is past accident record relevant. Tesla requires certain behavior right now to use FSDb. If you're not cool with it, relinquish it. Or wait until you strike out. either way, result is the same.

    Tesla bringing back RADAR?

I like that possibility too (better hardware for future consumer cars). Elon did announce a dedicated robotaxi vehicle, anticipated production in 2024, and separate from consumer cars. Now, that could just be for Boring tunnels, but it seems reasonable that the dedicated robotaxi would have...

    Tesla bringing back RADAR?

Do we know if the radar used by the listed companies are better (higher resolution) than Tesla's old radar? Sensor fusion is much easier when the multiple sensors mostly agree. A high definition radar is going to agree with vision a lot more than a low-res radar. I've seen the visualizations...

When do FSD Beta snapshots get uploaded?

Yeah, those 3 uploads were from separate drives. My car uploads almost immediately after I pull into the garage. After it uploads everything, it goes to sleep. I've also seen it wake up the middle of the night and upload large amounts of data. Not 100% sure that is snapshot data. Could be...

When do FSD Beta snapshots get uploaded?

oops, MB, not GB :D My 3 snapshots from last night were 462MB, 467MB, 464MB.
  37. novox77

When do FSD Beta snapshots get uploaded?

I was also under the impression that snapshots were way longer than 10 seconds. But it's very clear from my network traffic that each snapshot is about 480GB.
  38. novox77

When do FSD Beta snapshots get uploaded?

Yeah some prioritization makes sense just to be safe. I might take a snapshot for a whimsical hesitation, but I won't take one for every hesitation I encounter. And also to clarify, there is no daily limit to how many snapshots you can take. The car will offload them any chance it gets (on...

    FSD Beta 10.12

Chuck Cook had speculated that either FSDb is inferring the direction a car will turn, and then show their turn signal based on that inference, even if the car doesn't have its blinker on. He then admitted maybe that wasn't happening at all, and FSDb was seeing the reflection of his own blinker...

Story Time! Day 3 Experience Of a New FSD Beta Tester.

I remember 10.2. The car was so jerky it felt like it was going to break something, or wear something out prematurely. It was very cool to watch the car make turns on its own, but that was tempered by how poorly it performed those turns. More recently, when I take people for rides, and I show...

    FSD Beta 10.12

Well, he starts off emphasizing quite a bit that you should disengage when necessary and not to be afraid of disengaging. then he lets his car get curb/rim rash..... My own disengagements have saved me from both right and left hand turns that would have hit the curb. Pretty obvious from the...

    Tesla bringing back RADAR?

Given the higher cost for the HD radar compared to the crap one that has been in the existing fleet, it's likely this unit will be dedicated to the robotaxi model at first. I believe MobilEye has this approach as well. They have a vision-only offering, as well as a decked-out sensor application.
