    FSD Beta 10.12

Did the car have LED brake lights? It's possible the LED light caused an illusionary flickering making the computer thing the brake was on

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

Yeah, a bit saggy in the butt! Like I’ve said before - there’s no accounting for taste. Some people hate the styling of Tesla’s. 🤷‍♂️ The way I see it, judge a car based on its performance, ease of use, comfort, etc. and let people decide if they like the styling themselves.

Everything wrong with V11 update / user interface.

Wait... what will all those fanboys that have been steadfastly defending the interface say now? Do they admit they were wrong or go against their prophet, Elon?

Fair price for PPF + Ceramic?

Clearly you have a gift for washing cars! Water spots are generally calcium and will come off over time. I suspect the coating probably helped, though.

CCS - buy now or wait?

The retrofit thread I read involved swapping out a part so I assume there are some hardware differences, although the Tesla connector allows DC charging so I’m not sure what the different hardware requirements would be. As another datapoint, I have a 2020 MY (VIN 027xxx) and my car is CCD enabled.

    FSD V GM CRUISE

I can actually see a market for robotaxis in rural areas, perhaps more so. The geography and demand in those areas makes taxi services unfeasible but there are still people that can’t drive for various reasons. If you take the driver out of the mix it could make a big difference.

    FSD Beta 10.12

The thing to remember is even if it's the same route, it's functionally a different road on the way back because you're driving the opposite direction. The other thing I've noticed is that it depends if you're following someone. There are some areas I drive where FSD does fine if it's on its own...

    FSD Warning Sticker/Magnet

He's laughing with you, not at you! :p

CCS - buy now or wait?

Many countries include sales tax in the listed price. The U.S. is one of the few places that doesn't.

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

I agree - I still manage to avoid most potholes that I've never seen before. If it's a route I drive all the time I may remember them, otherwise I depend on my eyes.
  11. S

    FSD V GM CRUISE

Yeah, I agree, but @Daniel in SD was arguing otherwise.
  12. S

    FSD V GM CRUISE

Even 90% is mostly a pipe dream - the MagSafe chargers for iPhones are pretty optimized for perfect alignment, etc and only have 75% efficiency. Regardless, part of the reason for driving an EV is energy conservation. It would be incredibly counter productive to needlessly waste 10-25% of the...
  13. S

    FSD Warning Sticker/Magnet

That's my thought - there are plenty of times when FSD manages but is a bit slower than your average driver and/or does things that, while not illegal, may be annoying. Some examples I can think of are random blinkers, stopping or taking longer than normal at a yield sign, actually coming to a...

    FSD Warning Sticker/Magnet

I've seen people mention stickers/magnets warning other drivers that they are a FSD beta tester and the car may behave erratically in a few threads. I didn't really find any posts listing sources so I did some searching and fund the following options. Does anyone have any other sources? There...

    Spontaneous Lane Change

Apples...whales, it doesn't matter! What matters is if there's some way to spin, distort, remove context or otherwise find a way to speak negatively of Tesla. You people need to get over your need for truth, accuracy and perspective!
  16. S

    FSD V GM CRUISE

Right, but you were making a big point of saying Mercedes beat Tesla to Level 3, but now you're making a point of saying that a system is defined not by what it can do but by what the ultimate goal is and by that measure Tesla beat everyone. You can't have it both ways. Reading the text again...

    FSD V GM CRUISE

Well, from the TV pictures I've seen all the cars are sitting still on the highway anyway, so it doesn't matter!
  18. S

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

Yes. Conditions also play a bigger roll in efficiency with EVs than they do with ICE cars. I think the biggest reason is that despite what Elon said, range anxiety is still a thing. EV charging stations are not ubiquitous like gas stations are and if you do run out you can't just come back with...
  19. S

    Spontaneous Lane Change

Except sometimes it says ‘changing lanes to follow route’ when it’s already in the correct lane and the proposed lane change is the wrong one!
  20. S

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

Weather and driving style pay a huge role and can dwarf the range differences. Having said that, for a given set of conditions, the battery and power train do matter. I’ve gotten anywhere from 218 Wh/mi (clear spring day, flat state highways) to 400 Wh/mi with my MYLR (frigid winter day with...

    Autopilot and windshield wipers

That’s not normal - have you tried doing a reset?
  22. S

    FSD V GM CRUISE

Sorry, that's an absurd definition. Capabilities are defined by what a system can do, not what you hope it can do. It's like calling a medical student a neurosurgeon because that's what they're planing on doing. It also goes against what you were arguing in this thread. I have to ask, though...

    Moving out of right lane

Normal behavior? Yes. Appropriate behavior? No. Also, this FSD, not AP and is a separate issue from using the passing lane in AP, although I routinely have AP request to change lanes when it doesn‘t need to. Lane selection in FSDb is poor. I’ll routinely have the system move from the right lane...
  24. S

    FSD V GM CRUISE

Currently it requires constant driver supervention and regular intervention so that makes it a Level 2 system. Elon’s stated goal is for level 5 but who knows when that will be. No one knows for sure what Tesla’s actual plans are (as compared to Elon’s hype,) but I can see a couple of possible...

Fair price for PPF + Ceramic?

I think you have the right expectation. A professional ceramic film should last years. If you have to reapply every few months then it’s more of a fancy wax but if it’s priced as such and you buy it with that expectation then there’s nothing wrong with that. The problem comes with the claims and...
  26. S

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

’L2’ is a very broad category stretching from adaptive cruise on one end to Autopilot and FSDb on the other. The blended system you describe is somewhere in the middle. The key issue is one of driver expectations. in L2 the driver is responsible for the car, even if the car’s currently doing...

Tesla Model Y Test Drive Sydney 21/06

Greetings from the other side of the world! I’ve had my Y for 2 years and I’d say most of the comments are spot on. My biggest complaint with my Y has been the suspension/ride. It’s very harsh on any sort of rough road so I’d check that before you buy but if you’re happy with it then that’s what...

Driving Range less than expected with new MY-LR

So we just drove the same trip again today and got 251 Wh/mi. We did make one stop at a store during which my wife stayed in the car so it stayed on for about 15 minutes but the big difference was a 20 MPH (8.5-9 m/s) head wind for half the trip.
  29. S

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

If I'm that worried about someone being close to the line then what I'm really worried about is that they're not paying attention at all (and probably on their phone.) In this case I avoid driving next to them completely and either move forward or backward.
  30. S

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

I don't mean this to sound cynical but I'll believe it when I see it. Quite honestly, pot hole detection and avoidance seems like it would and should be pretty far down the FSD development road. I really wouldn't expect them to start working on it until they're much further along. I don't use...
  31. S

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

The problem with that approach is when they patch potholes, they usually use a hot patch mix that is black and stands out so the car will keep swerving around the patch, too. Seriously, if TACC keeps braking because it’s afraid of shadows do you think it’ll be able to tell the difference...
  32. S

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

I know of no system that's able to avoid potholes. Half the humans I know can't do it - if you're on a pothole-ridden street and have to snake your way though the maze to find the least-damaging path you should disable FSD. You're afraid of driving next to a car? Best let FSD do the driving...

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

I think that statement needs a bit of a qualification - clearly prices can and will change with inflation as well as changing market conditions. The last 2 years has seen both of these in spades. Apple traditionally increases the capabilities of each successive model while keeping the price the...

CCS - buy now or wait?

I think you answered your own question - You don't have an urgent need for the adapter so it makes sense to wait. The real question is how often will you need fast DC charging and have access to a CCS charger but not a Supercharger?
  35. S

    Ioniq 5 vs Model Y

Tesla started at the high end with the S and X then made a move to the middle with the 3. Pricing is difficult right now, but with the price increases, the 3 and the Y are have moved to the upper middle or upper end. The problem is at this price point, people rightfully expect more. Tesla’s...

    FSD Beta 10.12

Is the light an LES light? If so, is it solid or blinking in the display?
  37. S

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

I wouldn't be so sure Why do you want/need to adjust where you are in the lane when you're driving down the highway? What you're saying is you want AP to drive on it's own, then seamlessly let you take over then take control back from you whenever you feel like it without any input. Not going...

Fair price for PPF + Ceramic?

My understanding is that more than the coating itself the prep is the key and is more than most home DIYers will do themselves. It strikes me like doing an epoxy coat on your garage. You can do it yourself, but the equipment, time and effort are more than most people have and without proper prep...

Fair price for PPF + Ceramic?

The problem with Amazon is it’s become little more than a Chinese flea market. There are some good products, and a lot of cheap crap. The reviews are largely useless, too, because people pay review farms to write good reviews and jack the ratings.
  40. S

    Elon: FSD Beta tweets

Saying ‘they’re all controlled by the same computer” is a rather simple minded take on it. It’s like saying all websites are awful because they’re all loaded by the same browser. There are multiple different systems being used with varying degrees of overlap. TACC, EAB (emergency automatic...

Compatible Wiper Blades for Model Y?

Sorry, just saw this. I bought them from Auto Zone. (Like most blades You had to swap out the adapter with one of the 50 different ones that come in the package)
  42. S

What’s your longest drive without charging?

You probably can, depending on the weather. Efficiency drops off dramatically as you get over 60 mph. Supercharging is more efficient if you do more frequent, smaller charges, though, so unless the cops in that town have a warrant for you you’re probably better off making a short stop.
  43. S

Looking for the right adapter for 240v 30amp

Are you sure that’s a 6-30 and not a 6-15? Otherwise completely agree with everything you wrote. 30A charging is actually a very nice charging rate for most purposes.

How to make Cruise control "stupid"

Short answer to your question is no. Many have asked but there is no option for 'dumb' cruise control. In general, I have the reverse problem - when using autopilot or FSDb it takes far too long to slow down. TACC does brake more aggressively but I've never had it brake hard than what I would...

How to make Cruise control "stupid"

The question isn't about following the law, it's about how it followed the law. I'd also note that the law states that you need to slow down before the reduced speed limit sign, not start slowing down at the sign. and that's a pretty piss poor response. No one should be 'disappointed' by...

    FSD Beta 10.12

Ok, if it’s what I think it is the. Yes, that’s tighter than most drivers would take that corner. What does it do if there’s another car there? Looking at the pictures, the pavement/concrete is at odd/unusual angles so I wonder if that’s confusing FSD?
  47. S

    FSD Beta 10.12

So a leap is the smallest possible forward movement one can achieve?
  48. S

    FSD Beta 10.12

I looked at your pictures and honestly couldn't get a good idea of what the car was doing so I can't say.
  49. S

    FSD Beta 10.12

So by your own admission you’re criticizing the system for not doing something it wasn’t designed to do? I had a case a few weeks ago where I made a left turn Onto a side road. There was a bus waiting to turn right from the side road and halfway through the turn a car started to pull out from...
