    Powerwall 22.18 Firmware

It looks like mine updated to 22.18.3 last night at 8:30pm. The Powerwalls went idle when they were supposed to be powering the house during Peak. I really wish Tesla would do these updates during Off-Peak.

Does Virtual Power Plant option require Gateway 2 ?

I got the option to sign up yesterday. GW1 & 2xPW2 installed in 2018. Since they pay you directly, it seems that it might be possible that the amount is $2/kWh on top of your normal NEM credits. How they calculate the kWh quantity they are paying you on is another story though. I will be sure...

California Utilities Plan All Out War On Solar, Please Read And Help

ACC is a export credit model. I'm saying the total rate on the tariff should have a Super Off-Peak period. If they want to have NBCs, that's fine but I think the fair value is the Tariff Generation Rate. I don't know how the Generation Rate compares to the ACC rate proposed.

Is Powerwall necessary in Bay Area?

You will never make back the cost of the Powerwall purely with TOU rate differences and time shifting your solar energy. So, if that is your only consideration, don't get a Powerwall.

Just had 9.8kw Solar+2PW installed, have some noob questions.

Up to 10kW AC output, absolutely not. Can you connect 10kW DC of panels? Yes.

When I turn on Airconditioner, Tesla (Solar) app reports strange numbers

Your system is configured incorrectly. Tesla Energy Support can probably fix it remotely. If not, the CTs that measure the grid flow are placed incorrectly. This is a disappointingly common installation problem.

10kW solar with single Powerwall setup question

If you think you eventually want the second one, just do it now. The price won't necessarily go down and the hassle just isn't worth it.

3 inverters, 6 powerwalls, what to do

I disagree. There is a balance between how much you want to cycle your Powerwalls versus how much you want to retain for backup power Reserve. Most of the year, I don't generate enough solar to fully charge my two Powerwalls. However, for 9 months of the year, I have enough solar to recharge the...

    400v AC Charging

Your question does not provide enough details for us to figure out exactly what you're trying to do. "Mennekes" usually refers to the IEC 62196 Type-2 Connector on the vehicle. If your vehicle has this kind of inlet, just buy an off-the-shelf cable like this one to use a socketed Type-2...

Can I use my Tesla Wall Charger to charge a VW ID.4 with an adapter?

In Europe (and other markets where Tesla uses the Type-2 connector), Gen 2 was able to be limited to Tesla-only with a DIP switch setting. However, I don't have confirmation that any of the North American ones did that. AFAIK, they look for Tesla comms, then fall back to J1772 signaling.

Powerwall 2 charge and discharge rates

Be aware that Tesla does not give you explicit control over grid charging. It will do it, but it's more or less when it feels like it. It has improved recently since they added the ability to enter your actual rate schedule, but it still falls short of what many UK users want. Read as much as...

Powerwall 2 charge and discharge rates

I don't know the situation specifically in the UK, but the Powerwall system has the ability to specify the limits of the grid connection. It's called Power Control System (PCS). It has separate entries for maximum import and maximum export. Also, by default, grid charging is limited to 3.3kW, so...

California Utilities Plan All Out War On Solar, Please Read And Help

I have said this many times before - if the IOUs want to devalue solar, then make a new tariff that has a Super-Off-Peak from 10am-2pm and push down the price. I wouldn't even mind if they forced solar customers onto rate plans with this "feature". That's far more tolerable than retracting the...

3 inverters, 6 powerwalls, what to do

You already have the larger service. You need to see how to use the amperage above 200A. I have a CL320 meter and a 200A main panel. There is an empty space for another main breaker above it. You need to decide which heat pumps you're going to buy and have Tesla design the system to accommodate...

Need help with CA NEM 2.0.

Need help with CA NEM 2.0.

Your CCA should be 1:1 net metering for the Generation portion of the bill. They will make you pay every month that you owe them money, but they will accumulate credits until you use them up with positive charges or the end of the year comes around. If you start your annual cycle in the Winter...

    Charging 40amps

The other time you will see the 32A limit is when you use the Gen2 Mobile Connector. Even when you use the NEMA 14-50 or NEMA 6-50 plug adapters, the Mobile Connector will tell the car that the limit is 32A. New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

Tesla's Powerwall software definitely does not do all of what you want on its own. You might be able to "hack" it with automation. For example, it sounds like you want the Peak behavior to follow the Self Powered algorithm with the battery full at 4pm. Solar will power the house and excess will...

New Powerwall Advanced Options [Toggles for charging from and discharging to grid from powerwalls]

@holeydonut I'm with you on this. I would be happier if the Powerwalls would do some calculation and run at a constant charge/discharge rate. In addition to your example above, I am charging from solar during Off-Peak before 3pm and it's drawing from the grid to power the house while it's...

Power conversion system defective model Y 2022

Study up on the Lemon Law in your State. If that happened to me, I would not hesitate to avail myself of all protections under the law. In most cases, Tesla does not resist doing the right thing and buys back vehicles that have had excessive service needs or protracted service times.

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

Rule 21 pre-supposes interconnection. The whole point of this discussion is to avoid interconnection. I don't have a reference for authoritative requirements for such a system. If you don't mind the interruption, one way is to just put a switch such that your loads are powered mutually...

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

Yes, that is an inherently interconnected system that requires PTO. If you want to avoid PTO, you have to have a hard dividing line between loads that are on the grid and loads that are off the grid. Hybrid inverters that have a separate input for battery charging can do this. The hybrid...

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

Yes, that's exactly what PG&E wants. They want to destroy the value of people installing solar to seasonally shift costs. If the State wants people to decarbonize and shift things like heating from fossil fuels to electricity, they need to force the utilities to allow seasonal shifting with...

CPUC Nem 3.0 discussion as it relates to Energy Products

You have to specifically engineer the system so that it is impossible to export in order to avoid utility interconnection (PTO). A system that is interconnected but curtails to avoid export is a different thing and is much easier to accomplish. IMHO, true non-export or non-PTO systems should...

    Understanding PGE/SVCE electricity bills/TrueUP

When I made the comment, I was under the impression that Pioneer's all-in rates including PCIA and FFS were higher than PG&E's total rates. California Utilities Plan All Out War On Solar, Please Read And Help

They are more interested in inciting class warfare than accurately billing based on true costs. That said, I think it's reasonable to have a Monthly Charge based on the size of your service 100A / 200A / 400A / etc. but if you export enough energy, you should be able to offset that charge. I...

I don't know what's up with that rating label. If I didn't know any better, that label should be on one of the "fat" BTC 50kW chargers. The Chula Vista Burlingame EVgo site clearly has the skinny BTC dispensers that are shown as "200kW" in the EVgo app. It may be that the current is limited to...

Results from the "350 kW" / 500A DCFC session is finally here!

Unfortunately, this is a well known result. Many of the EA chargers made by ABB only deliver 350 amps, regardless of what the rating labels say. I don't know what the rhyme or reason is for which ones actually deliver 350A versus 500A.

    Enphase Solar and Powerwall integration

The Tesla system is registering higher production than the Enphase and utility meter. A load cannot cause an error in that direction. Tesla just doesn't care to calibrate the system before shipping it.
