    Battery Drain - Cold Weather

The power usage of Sentry mode isn't affected by how many events it records. Sentry Mode is always recording while active - you'll notice on the storage drive that there is a recent folder with footage from the last hour. When Sentry detects an event, it takes the last 10mins of footage from...

    Battery Drain - Cold Weather

To have only 28% left after parking with 83% indicates to me that you left Sentry mode on. As for battery %s, it's pretty normal for battery charge levels to display differently after the temp drops. The voltage reported while the pack is at 20ishC (around what the car usually keeps the temp...

New Zealand FSD user experience - tips and warnings

Even the basic version of Autopilot that is included for free can read speed signs and react to them. The only thing that basic and enhanced autopilot can't do is react to stop signs and traffic lights, only the FSD package can do that. For a bit of a history lesson, up until early 2019, there...

New Zealand FSD user experience - tips and warnings

Yes, EAP can do all of that. I have had these features with EAP for almost 2 years now.

New Zealand FSD user experience - tips and warnings

"Basic Autosteer" is part of the included Autopilot package. Currently in NZ, the FSD package does not give you an "Autosteer" feature that is any different to what is included for free. When FSD Beta arrives here if you have the FSD package then you will get (if you get a qualifying safety...

New Zealand FSD user experience - tips and warnings

When you buy FSD it has this in the feature list: This is what FSD actually is and is what you see in the YouTube videos from those with access to the Beta (US and Canada only currently). "Autosteer on city streets" is a whole different autopilot stack that is very different to what we...

New Zealand FSD user experience - tips and warnings

You're not using FSD, you're using Autopilot with traffic light awareness. When you buy FSD in NZ you're pre-ordering access to it when it's made available here. Other than stopping at a traffic light or stop sign, your Autopilot experience on most NZ roads is not going to be any different to...

    EAP = $5,700 right now

To get all the features of EAP in something like a Kia EV6 you have to spend another $22k on top of the base price 😉

Model Y order page is live

Model Y and 3 are not made to order. Rather, they make a bunch and then orders are matched to what is put on the ship. They likely started making the current shipment before they opened up orders. August-November is very possible

Model Y order page is live

Hmm, I remember seeing last year that US RWD cars had switched over too. Maybe with the Shanghai lockdown they switched back again.
  11. M

Model Y order page is live

The RWD Model 3 from the US is the exact same - they all have LFP packs and the same motor. 6.9 seconds is still quick for a CUV/SUV

    So, what's it worth?

You're the last person I thought who would look at getting rid of their Tesla 😮

    Ants in new Model 3

It's unlikely they came from the factory or anything like that. Any vehicle imported into NZ (aka, all of them) goes through a fumigation process at the port that should kill everything inside. In the past when the car was parked outside in Auckland I found that ants were attracted to the...

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

Maybe it will fix the storage bug where you have to unplug and plug in the Sentry/Dashcam storage drive to get it working again. Seems like it was a bug introduced with the 2022.12 branch.

    Supercharger - Tauranga

I'm not sure I'd go that far about the South Island, at least with a Long Range Model 3. Last September I did a circular road trip from Christchurch, Queenstown, Invercargill, Dunedin and back to Christchurch. On the way to Queenstown I did it only with Superchargers (short stop in Timaru and...

    Model 3 Tires

All sorted today! The tech came out to do a road test with me at drop off but as he sat in the seat the suspension creaked dramatically and he was pretty confident on what the issue was. Both control arms were replaced and they also took care of a couple of outstanding service bulletins that I...

    Model 3 Tires

Ha, my 2019 also just started making that noise yesterday. Mine doesn't really make it on turning (yet) but it does when going over bumps or rises in the road and when accelerating from a stop. I have it booked in with the Christchurch service centre for Monday. Here's a clip of mine:

    What is this plug called?

I wonder if you could do it yourself using a a VPN based out of Korea, and then using your own account to order from the Tesla Korea website and having them ship your item to a shipping forwarder like this one.

    New Zealand Road Trips

At first glance I was thinking that looked right...then I looked at your starting destination! Thankfully, the car is smarter than Tesla's website

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

I'm not sure boombox is the deciding factor. Plenty of cars in the US and EU are older cars without the PWS yet still get the update.

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

In other news, I just received 2022.12.3 which includes the much talked about ability to pin more climate controls (heated seats, defrost, etc) and window wiper controls. It also adds Disney+ for New Zealand.

    New Zealand Road Trips

I did a day trip to Arthurs Pass from Christchurch over the weekend. No real need to charge with a Long Range Performance but there is a 50kW Chargenet charger (with Kea proof cables) in the village along with a BYOC AC charger. Unlike most AC chargers, this AC charger is pay per kWh and has a...

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

Live Sentry Mode requires the use of the mobile network. Tesla's contract with Telstra may currently only allow for certain usage, such as lots of download capability but low upload (which is what Live View will use). There is also the complication that Tesla is using Roaming data in New Zealand...

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

Yeah, I know how the updates work lol. My point was more, it's silly to complain about features taking longer to arrive here when the subscription price you're paying still includes everything that the service advertised as including. The price of Premium Connectivity is mostly determined by...

UMC no longer supplied with new cars

I see this as unlikely to happen in New Zealand, if Elon's claim about "low usage stats" are correct. In the US, charging via a standard 110v outlet is almost useless. Most have to have an electrician come in and install a 240v line near the car for charging so many just go with a Wall...
  28. M

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

Yeah, we all pay nothing for these updates. If you're referring to the cost of premium connectivity, that's mostly dictated by the telco being used. In this case, it's Telstra AU.

Charging speed at home - 2022 M3 RWD (SR)

Yes, you could get a 16A circuit and caravan socket added and that would be within the rules. Tesla doesn't provide an official 32A tail for the UMC and Worksafe also hasn't approved the 32A socket for EVSE usage. You'd be better off getting a Wall Connector at that point anyway.

    Model 3 Tires

Beaurepaires in Rolleston is where I got mine done in Jan. They were also able to source the TO spec OEM Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. The guys at the ChCh service centre had mentioned in the past that they were using one of the Beaurepaires near Wigram.
  32. M

Charging speed at home - 2022 M3 RWD (SR)

Technically, it's against Worksafe guidelines to use a 15A socket for an EVSE in New Zealand. Following their rules, you're only allowed a 10A or a 16A caravan socket.
  33. M

    What is this plug called?

Once the CCS1 adapter finally becomes official in the US along with the retrofit, I imagine a lot of current Chademo adapter owners will be wanting to get rid of it in favour of the CCS1 adapter. So you might find a good source of them shortly

Tesla Model 3 Delivery day - New Zealand - 2021 model - experiance

If he doesn't want to pick it up from Auckland, it'll be delivered to his door in Dunedin. Christchurch may also be a pick up option now.

Model 3 The Model 3 trunk harness recall

Lol, you realise the camera for the Model S is also in the boot lid and will also be subjected to movement, right? Infact, every car that has a boot that opens will have the same... You're really making a big issue about a very minor thing. I feel sorry for the grocery workers in your area.
  36. M

    What is this plug called?

Yep...that's why I think the WoF & certification system needs to be updated to include charge port compatibility to avoid the need for these dangerous adapters.
  37. M

Model 3 The Model 3 trunk harness recall

Yeah I do. I don't need a reversing camera to operate the car and they're not a legal requirement here in New Zealand. The BMW 5 Series wagon that I had prior to this had a similar issue with its rear wiring loom in its boot hatch, except it affected its tail lights
  38. M

    What is this plug called?

This is why I think Tesla should offer an affordable official retrofit for Japanese imports in New Zealand to avoid people being forced into buying dodgy adapters off the internet that may or may not damage the Superchargers, the car or injure/kill the owner. Like it or not, Tesla needs to come...

Well that's a 1st - Tesla China offering powered boot upgrade for model 3

Oh yeah if they brought that here I'd sign up for it

    What is this plug called?

Japan is a RHD country like New Zealand. @RobDickinson I guess you're right, you could bring a LHD Tesla to NZ but it would be an expensive paddock car 😛
  41. M

    What is this plug called?

For South Korea and North America your bigger problem is that the steering wheel is on the wrong side. If you're coming from there then 100% sell your current car and buy a new one here as you cannot bring a LHD car to NZ (outside of some very specific exceptions that only the Roadster would...

Tesla Model 3 in New Zealand

Yeah, not really an issue here but more for parts of the world where it drops to -20C and the wipers can freeze to the window while driving 😳 They might be useful if you happen to leave your car out on a frosty morning but as you say, preheating is likely to be enough to melt away anything in...

Tesla Model 3 in New Zealand

You may also get heated wipers on cars ordered recently.

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

That Autopilot change is a big one though. It should make it much more pleasent to use in stop-go traffic where it currently throws you forward a lot with its use of the physical brakes
  47. M

What power company and home charger do you use?

At $800 with built in RCD Type B protection, the Tesla Gen 3 wall connector is hard to beat on value for a three phase EVSE. They can also charge other EVs so if you're installing one, might as well go with that. Having the button on the connector to open the charge door or remove the cable is a...

    Supercharging too expensive

Lol so you did choose drama then. "Putting your life at risk" - if you feel so unsafe in your Tesla, sell it and get a car that you do feel comfortable driver. Nothing worse than a person driving a car on the road that they can't control potentially causing a life threatening crash for an...

    SR+ tyre replacement

I recently did a full set replacement of the OEM Pilot Sport 4 on my 2019 Performance Stealth with the same tyres. I figured since they lasted so well over 46,000km I'd go with the same. Only downside was that the only fitter in NZ with the TO spec in stock was Beaurepaires at $520 a tyre. Mag &...

    Supercharging too expensive

It does suck that the costs have basically doubled in the last year, but I suspect it's to cover an expansion of the Supercharging network. They're currently advertising for two Supercharger related positions so it seems something is happening. Leases and getting nearly 1MW of power to a V3...
