Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

Car worked perfectly with every CCS station I tried. At one charger, I did get a "Proximity error", but disconnecting and re-connecting solved it. Highlights: Tritium 75kW chargers provide 75kW for the entire charge session (until it starts ramping down at high SOC). Very odd for a CCS...

Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

Went on a little road trip. Thanks to the CCS adapter I was able to get 490 kWh of FREE charging AND try out a ton of different CCS chargers. At $.48/kWh, that's like $235 in free charging. Like, I almost paid for the adapter in one trip.

New 2022 Model 3 has "VCFRONT a192" issue

The HV contactor is in the "penthouse" of the battery pack. That part is designed to be opened and parts replaced. I had my PCS replaced 80,000 miles ago - no issues so far with their work.

How to perform brake fluid health check?

To be honest, those miles were put on over a short period of time And I've tested my brake fluid and the moisture level is acceptable. It's not like I'm talking about my 2005 Chevy truck that is on it's original brake fluid with no issues..........

Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

A properly done crimp beats solder in both lower resistance, and flexibility. I'll use a parallel crimp splice any-day over soldering in large part due to the points MLXXXp outlined above. I built my harness using crimps exactly for that reason. I know we're not driving spaceships, but to the...

Use Ludicrous+ to precondition for CCS?

That's because you have a LR RWD, right? For pre-conditioning, a dual motor car uses the front motor to generate heat, and the rear motor to drive. On a RWD vehicle, since it's using the rear motor for locomotion, it tries to run it in an inefficient region to generate heat, but isn't able to...

Anxious about a few things with my new Model 3

    1) The charge remaining at end of trip given by navigation is pretty accurate and gets more accurate as Tesla improves it. 3) Just remember, people rarely come online to say "Wow, everything is great." People come online to complain.

Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

Ok, I figured it out. Since the Ioniq 5 is a 800V battery, on a 400V CCS charger it uses the motors inverter as a DC/DC converter to get to 800V. BUT, since there's a DC/DC converter, they can ask the charger for 400V, no matter what the battery charge level is. Which means it's going to charge...

Is it possible to install a radar sensor myself on a "no radar" Model Y/3

Installing a software update from Tesla MIGHT enable it, but there's a good chance that you need a technician to run a script to wed the radar to the VIN.

Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

The 150/350kW signs at EA stations are really small and most drivers don't notice them. I assume they were on the 350kW station since those are the kind of charge rates I've seen on Ioniq charge reviews when charging on a 350kW. If they were on a 150kW then I'm impressed.
  25. smatthew

Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

Here's an easy one. You were on a "150kW". The Ioniq was at a "350kW". You would have been getting similar charge rates if you were on the 350kw charger. Also, the kW ratings are not directly comparable between Tesla Superchargers and CCS chargers. Basically, the rating on a Supercharger is...

Cruise Control, Autopilot Unavailable/No Cars on Display

How to fix this, the hard way 1) Remove negative from 12V battery 2) Under rear passenger seat, disconnect the connector under the styrofoam shield. Retrofit CCS compatibility onto earlier (NA) Model 3 - DIY approach

The official upgrade will NOT require the 1537264-00-B CP ECU. There will be a new version that is compatible with Gen 3 and Gen 4 charge ports - the current 1537264-00-B is missing pins and will never be directly compatible with older cars.
  31. smatthew

Cruise Control, Autopilot Unavailable/No Cars on Display

I've seen that on my Model 3. It happened to me when it "lost frames" from the B pillar camera. The only way to get it to come back is to reset the ADAS system - which either takes a deep sleep. OR a trip through service mode.

For that error you need to disconnect the 12V battery AND the HV harness under the rear passenger seat.

CCS1 adapter from Tesla Korea, new CP ECU from Tesla, and harness adapter from my own sweaty hands I believe Tesla is doing a North America soft launch of the CCS1 adapter via Korean proxy shippers. I'm pretty sure they've sold more CCS1 adapters in Korea than they've sold compatible cars in...

Does Mobile connector automatically set amps?

This is interesting because GFCIs are not overcurrent devices. A GFCI measure the differences in current flow, not totals. GFCI current breakers not withstanding.
  38. smatthew

How to perform brake fluid health check?

Yup. I use my brake fluid checker, and the moisture level still checks out as fine. Tesla vehicles use the brakes much less than ICE vehicles. Less brake usage and less total wear contribute to less air exchange and thus less moisture infiltration.

For Model 3 Is the rear crossbeam/shelf (that the rear seats click into) a structural piece? Can I remove it?

I mean anything is possible if you really want it. There are people who have converted model 3's into convertibles. Would it be easy to do cleanly? Nope.
  41. smatthew

Model 3 completely dead this morning. What an experience. [dead 12v]

I'm not surprised. The car has modes where it is looking for the 12V battery to be disconnected completely (i.e. it was replaced) before it will reset.

So you cancelled my order, but immediately started accepting new orders at a higher price? Classy. I went and ordered the parts myself. I'll have two adapters for half of what you're charging...... and then sell the second one and come out ahead.

No speed control, autopilot, car only sees paint line

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

I think you mis-understood him. The tech didn't say "LED Battery" he said "Lead Battery" as in Lead Acid.
