Of course the tweaks were to the range algorithm. Only a fool would believe that they would give you any significant range back. The packs are capped for a reason.

It was not a feature bought and paid for that was to last forever. At first it was going to be cost free for the initial bumper to bumper warranty period. Then Elon extended it to 5 years, and nothing was said about it after that. Yes they get a ton of benefit from it, including changing the...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I was specifically talking about cars that will never see a service center, so there is absolutely no worry of Tesla techs having to monkey with anything. Tesla can, and still has access to these cars(and ability to make changes over the air), as long as one does not remove their super user...

When I look at this from a non bias perspective, I just cannot see how we could be polar opposites on our opinions. There is no doubt that you see many more cars than I do, yet you claimed to have only experienced condition Z in a couple. My experience is that quite a few of old 60/85kwh cars...

To me, safety issue, and dangerous go hand in hand. I may have not used the exact wording when I quoted you, but the end result is the same. You are entitled to your own opinion, just not your own facts. I’m fairly certain that condition X (as you call it), has happened. Cars don’t just burst...

There was a screenshot of your post a while back in this thread, with that exact statement. I’ll dig it up when I have more time. Either way, if there is no danger why update and lose charging speed and range? Nerf your car for fun? Makes no sense to any reasonable person.

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Yeah, same with the battery fires. “There is a danger on old Software, if you supercharge, or range a lot, you should update”. Now it’s. “What fires? Pre 2019.16.1 software didn’t cause any fires”. Give me a break....

It happened to me also, except it was solicited on my end. This means I was on a most current software version, contacted Tesla about a problem with charging, and got a previous revision battery software pinged. Tesla used to hand assemble firmware for each car in the early days, so of course...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Anything is possible, but you will know if it isn’t cell limiting, because the pack will decline rapidly(keep losing range). With cell limiting, you will be stuck with that same range loss for a long time.
  16. qwk

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Of course it’s possible, as I have seen it firsthand on my car, and it’s mentioned in the lawsuit.

  19. qwk

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

This is not a behavior that happened pre 2019.16.1. It might be that Tesla has snuck a battery firmware only revision onto those with older Software.
  20. qwk

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

In most cases, the range loss is a product of software manipulation. In other words, if you go back on older software, the pack charges to full range again. Now, there is a physical issue in those packs that may cause problems, but that is not where the initial range drop comes from.

This is just a hobby for me, and I have personally seen more affected cars than Jason has mentioned. Far more. I guess it’s possible that it’s an anomaly, but probably not. If it really was a small number of packs, they would just be replaced, because it would be cheaper than the law firm they...

Yes, I have logs, but they are still on the old MCU(bad motherboard), as it went out shortly after that. The chiller worked, as it came on a couple of times on different trips at the target temp, which I think was 49C? I run it in range mode, which has a different Active cooling target. Like I...
  25. qwk

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I think you misunderstood me. The car never used the chiller(keep in mind that this is the hottest part of the year with ambient temps in the 90’s). Also the pumps almost always ran at around 25% for the entire supercharging events(some charges were 100%). I also drove the car hard, trying to...
  26. qwk

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

This statement is 100% false. The 8.1 and older software did not run the pumps at 100% or anywhere near that very often. I observed this on a rooted car during a 2k mile road trip with my own eyes. 112kw charging with a pack between 35-45 C yielded 25-55% pump speeds during the entire trip...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Condition Z, and X is a physical problem, the update is supposed to sense X, and shut the car down. Before the first cripple update, the car would just keep going like nothing is happening, and then just burn when the affected module got hot enough.

If you have been following this drama, he changes his tune quite a few times. I get not wanting to be involved in this mess, but by posting that info, he already involved himself. It doesn’t make him any less knowledgeable, though. You just have to know which version to believe, lol.
  32. qwk

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

Jason is being intentionally vague IMHO. Tesla applied the cap by limiting capacity, but they could have easily capped the voltage instead. Not much difference. The end result is similar. Voltage is a big part of the rated range algorithm, so I’m not sure why he insists that it doesn’t matter...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

That’s because a neutered reman pack is again much safer due to the new software. If you have a neutered pack and somehow load the old non-neuter software, it gets Tesla’s attention right now. I’m not sure what the risk factor is regarding chance of fire, but they don’t want cars on the old...

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

For the last time, packs are not leaking coolant, period. There is an internal issue in some cell(s), which causes problems because the packs are/were ran to/past their limit, depending on the software tesla used at the time. Tesla has tried replacing the bad sheet(s) in the Roadster, back in...
  35. qwk

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I didn’t read the article, but it’s not a loose coolant connection causing this issue. I’m sure Jason Hughes could confirm if he feels like posting again. More lies from Tesla. It’s kind of like a $2 part(Musks own words), causing the drive unit issues of the past. It was a bearing issue.
  36. qwk

Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

How exactly would the car self destruct on Tesla’s own software? I thought you claimed that there is no safety issue? Do you yourself even believe the stuff you post? Either the car is safe on 8.1, or its not. You can’t have it both ways.

I recently Road-tripped a capped car, but the supercharging speed was not affected much. A range charge took about an hour. The DC charge speed Depends on charging history for cars on newer software, meaning post 2029.16.1.1

Reman packs get the original Tyco contactors replaced if they have them, and a few other small items are done. There is no module replacement. That’s why some reman packs are capped. Wiki Sudden Loss Of Range With 2019.16.x Software

I’m not going to do your homework for you. I will say that it is a direct result of DC charging. A Tesla pack will last a very long time if AC charged only. A few DC charges probably won’t take much life out of it either(once a year). Constant DC charging is as good for your pack, as is...
